Very good place for Grocery shopping. Not only they have very nice selections of Mexican food but also American comfort food as well. Bakery section also offers nice variety of sweets with great, great price. As well as the hospitality from the employees.

Let's play a game of What I Asked For vs What I Got Ordered through a delivery service from this location. The photo attached is the picture of what I thought I was ordering. Every where I've ordered birria tacos they are all made the same! For the most part. So the expectation was what was in the picture. I received 3 tacos with just meat and all the toppings on the side. Nothing like birria. I bit that taco btw. Seems like they would've probably been pretty good had they been made right. Thankfully the delivery service refunded me. It's disappointing because I ordered the carne asada tacos yesterday from the airline store and they were great! Not sure what happened here but I just won't order from this location anymore.

The deserts are great and the hot plate food is good if you know Hispanic cuisine! It's not chic fil La, everyone is probably underpaid so don't expect a bright smile every time. Amazing people.

Ideal, you should give people what they ask for. My girlfriend who is a cook, went today to buy goat meat for a function. She called and they said they had it but ended up not having it at all, but that is another story. She decided to get some soup for me and instead of giving her beef stew they gave her tripe soup, which is definitely not for the faint of heart if you've never had it before. I understand that there can be a problem if there is a language barrier but I think they have been around long enough to consider adding an english subtitle to the products on their menu, especially if you are looking to grow their business.

Ideal is a great spot to grab a quick latin plate of food, it reminds me of similar latin spots in NYC and Boston, where you go into a cafeteria style line and pick what you want behind the glass. I always get the carne asada, it's unique with a sweetness that offsets the char from the grill, when they're not broken the tortillas are superb. Also, the platano maduros are excellent here, super fresh and right out of the grease like they should be. My only knock on this place is that the rice is never great, it can be good but it's never great, it's such an easy fix too, they need to get that together.

I always have to order certain food from them through waitr because every single time I drive over there & waste my gas, they never want to take my order. And since I don't speak Spanish, it's even more frustrating for me when I try to explain I always order through the waitr app & they kept saying they don't serve it & only at certain times. My friend just ordered through waitr & got their food. I'm so disappointed at the location and their food is amazing.

If you haven't stopped in an Ideal market, do yourself a favor and get there. This location on Hessmer isn't one of the largest, but it still boasts an impressive selection of groceries. There is a mix of staple items and other food unique to Latin American cooking. But don't think you need to be looking to cook for yourself. They sell hot prepared foods that are out of this world. The portion sizes for prices can't be beat. I'm a huge fan of the carnitas. Possibly the biggest surprise at Ideal is the bakery. The quality of their baked goods rivals any grocery chain (local and national) and even many of the local bakeries.

Delicious authentic Latin food, and this is from someone married to a Mexican chef! The food bar offers homemade choices and the bakery has an amazing chocolate tres leches. This location is my favorite of this local chain. The ladies working there are really friendly to this gringa

Get your masterly grilled chicken here! Reminds me of Tandoori style chicken. Lot's of seasoning and charcoal flavors with a crispy outside and moist inside. Comes with grilled jalapenos and onions. This is blows away any store bought rotisserie jobs. Worth a drive out.

This is a really convenient chain of supermarkets that are located throughout the New Orleans area. I generally shop at the Metairie and the Westbank (Gretna/Terrytown) locations. Huge selection of Latin American products, to include fruits, vegetables, cooking spices and condiments. Lots of Goya and Badia products, along with a wide variety of beers. There's also a good selection of fresh, seasoned and unseasoned meats for sale by the pound. Ideal also sells hot food to go, daily, and constantly rotates the selection. Highly recommend the rotisserie chicken or the carne asada.
