Scheduled a rental 4 days in advance for a 16ft truck to pick up at Home Depot in Lafayette, LA because they are open on Sundays. Was called on Friday and told they don't have drivers to move trucks over the weekend (although their website claims they guarantee a truck for you). I was told by Catherine they would make arrangements for me to do an after hour pickup at their Evangeline Thruway location on Sunday evening. I called around 10 am Sunday to make sure everything was in order only to be told they didn't have a 16ft truck and it seems Catherine dropped the ball on following through her "promise to have it ready". She gave me her personal cell # in case there was a problem but she did not answer the call or text. I'm guessing because she knew she didn't follow through. Not sure why they allow you to book online to pick up on Sunday if the local store isn't going to do their job to make sure that happens. I will say the first time we rented Kwinci helped get things in order for us to pick up after hours. But on the 2nd rental, even he didn't respond and he's the assistant rental manager.

I rented a 16 foot truck & trailer from this location but had serious issues with equipment and employees/management. The rental associate (Mia) was very argumentative/defensive during the checkout process and did not thoroughly inspect the equipment. The brake light connector was damaged and wheel lock on the tailer was still connected. Mia was just generally difficult to deal with... I also rented 24 moving pad and a dolly. Mia stood by and watched as I made 3 trips to bring the items to the truck and never offered to help/hold the door as I obviously struggled. When I've rented Penske truck from home depots in the past, these items were already in the truck.I asked the supervisor (Juan?) if I could get a different trailer due to the safety concern of the damaged brake light connector on my 1000+ mile move. He refused and told me I had to contact Penske directly to resolve the issue. I had been planning on putting my car on the trailer and hauling it back to my house but had to leave it in the parking lot due to the damaged trailer. About 10 minutes after I left the store with the Penske truck, Juan randomly called me to defend his employee's actions and telling me that I needed to move my vehicle out of the Home Depot parking lot immediately and that I needed to report back to him once that was complete. Juan said that his shift ended at 3PM and it needed to be completed before then. The demeaning way Juan spoke to me is the reason I'm writing this review. The issue with the trailer resulted in my move being delayed a day. I would recommend renting directly with the main Penske location on NE Evangeline Trwy instead of this home depot.

I arrived to Home Depot after a 20+ hour drive to be less than greeted by Greg, the tool rental associate who gruffly asked me "can I help you", after I had been standing in the tool rental department for a brief moment. When I said, "yes, I'm looking to return my Penske truck and tow dolly", he walked the length of the department without saying a word, and then pulled one of my reservation papers out of my hand. "Do you need that paper?" was my response to this abrupt behavior. "Well, it would be a start", was what I got in return.I waited in silence for about a minute before Greg got out of his chair, walked to the side exit door and I presumed I was to follow him outside to the vehicle I had rented. "Where is it?", he said. I pointed to the vehicle at the end of the lot, near another Penske truck. He took off in that direction and as I began telling him about the difficulties I had had with my reservation, he did not say a word. I offered to move the parked truck I had rented closer to the other Penske truck, for his convenience, and despite some possible sarcasm in his voice ("if you think you can do that") we agreed to this. After unhitching the two-wheel dolly, since it is extremely difficult to keep straight while reversing, I prepared to hitch the dolly again for the final parking position. Greg instead tried picking up the dolly and seemed to attempt to carry it 150+ feet to the other side of the lot when I was clearly on my way to do just that, using the truck hitch. I did not seem to inspire much faith in Greg. After taking damage inspection notes, Greg once again took off without warning and I followed him inside. When I continued to explain how the difficulties I had had on the road—with what should have been a 16 hour drive became a 26 hour drive due to the dolly—I once again waited, for 2 minutes in silence until he eventually pointed to the credit card reader and said, "sign that". At this point it was clear Greg was not interested in helping me and in exasperation I had to ask, "what document am I signing?". "Duhhh, well saying you returned the truck", was his response. At this point, I gave up trying to see if anyone would hear me out regarding the seized dolly straps, a blown tire, and extraneous related expenses. My experience is not a fluke because I had a similarly disinterested employee fail to guide my transaction when I first picked up the tow dolly in Chicago, IL. I highly suggest Penske look into hiring more considerate, constructive and polite employees at their Home Depot locations!

The much safer and usable option is the four-wheel dolly, which had I been advised to reserve, would have saved me tons of headache, time and money.

Great truck. As new condition. Nice people, great program with Home Depot and excellent price. Could not ask for anything else.
