Quaint BNB in an historic building in the heart of Lafayette Cajun Country. Enjoyed meeting other guests while enjoying the chef prepared breakfasts each morning. Dinner recommendations from the evening staff were appreciated.

Great historical location. The breakfasts and coffee were very good each morning. However, the room itself was very non-accommodating. Antique tub in the bathroom was very difficult to get in and out of and the inside curtain that you had to use to keep water from spilling onto the floor was unsanitary. The bathroom had no place to hang bath or wash clothes. Soap dispenser for the tub/shower on the wall was stationed too far from the shower to be practicable. Bed mattress needs to be replaced. Soap dispenser for the sink area was never refilled before we arrived and was very low. Poor lighting including missing light bulb in the rooms. One night we heard loud barking dogs that started at 11:30PM below our 2nd floor room and when we called the after hours contact # for the owner, you got a full mailbox recording only. We then called the main number and the owner answered. He did resolve the barking dog issue. They might want to review their "pet friendly" policies.Rooms: See above comments.

The staff were so very nice and welcoming. The home and grounds are rich in history, and breakfast was delightful. I truly enjoyed my stay at Maison Mouton Bed and Breakfast and hope to return again soon.

Review context - we booked 2 rooms on the third floor of the bnb (my husband and I in one, and my sister in the other) with a shared bathroom. 2 big issues on why I wouldn't recommend Maison mouton.1) My husband & I had to leave our room in the middle of the night and find another hotel - as there was a mouse loudly scratching in the locked cupboard in our room every time the light went off. The next day when my husband went back to check out and speak to the manager their feedback was it was probably 'just a raccoon'. This noise was NOT coming from the ceiling - it was in the room.2) There are no locks on the doors which is not only bizarre, but seems unsafe with a risk of people entering your room when you're sleeping/no security for your valuables. When that was called out to the staff they said 'well no one goes up to the third floor' and actually became quite irate & rude. They did say they'd call us to discuss a partial refund, for the mouse issue (and the fact that we had to pay for another hotel, as well as this) but we never heard from them. It is a nice looking BnB from the outside, but we would not recommend staying here. Oh and my sister had a hair in her breakfast the next morning. Do yourself a favour, and book one of the many other places to stay nearby - which are comfortable, clean, and rodent free.

We had an amazing experience at the Inn. The staff were very helpful and Dollen the manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. We did! It’s a unique property & we really loved our stay.Rooms: i like that the rooms were authentic to the time period and you can tell they took efforts to preserve the history.Loved the breakfast provided in the beautiful sun room.

Born and raised in Lafayette, I was not aware this place was there. My grandparents lived on Sterling and still I did not know this was there. My sister found this place and suggested it and it was quite comfortable. We were in town for a couple days to take care of family matters.I enjoy the history surrounding the property as well as the history of Lafayette. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great and it was good to meet people from around the world.I would recommend Mouton's Plantation and will plan to stay next time I'm in town with the dogs, because they will love it also.

Our stay was okay.We stayed in the Voorhies suite in the main house, which was recommended to us after telling the host that we needed a quiet room and I had read reviews about the cabins outside being noisy. It was okay for noise as long as there wasnt anyone staying on the third floor above us. When on the first floor, you can hear every step taken on the second and the same goes for the second floor hearing the third. A very cute but very active toddler stayed above us one night and her running around was LOUD.There was no tv in the room, which was not mentioned when booking and made killing time during the day until my husband got back from a conference VERY slow. The tv we sometimes had access to in another room did not actually get service and was mostly static, so it wasn't usable. We actually had to go out and buy a laptop so that my husband could stop taking mine with him so I would have something to do.For breakfast, they were accomodating once we spoke to them about setting aside two dishes for my brother and I (late risers) and having a box ready to go early for my husband who was attending a conference. The pancakes and french toast were good, but there was one day where the breakfast was just a sausage patty and egg on a biscuit. Granted, the biscuit was homemade, but it seemed more basic than their website had led me to believe. The lighting throughout the place is low, with the only well lit room being the dining room. They set it for the next day around 4pm though, so you can't use the room after that. We tried and it seemed to really throw John off because they need to set the table for 10 minutes a whole 16 hours before breakfast rather than just doing it in the morning for some reason. We had brought board games but it was difficult to find areas to comfortably play with enough light. We didnt hear anything about "nightly" Cajun music until it was suddenly happening 4 days into our trip because other people were checking in. This didnt bother us, but would have been disappointing if we had been expecting it.And for A/C, they just had a window unit in one of the rooms of our suite. I need the temperature to be low when I sleep, and it probably got the room to about 68°F no matter how low I set it. This was tolerable, but not great. My brother's room did not have A/C and definitely got pretty warm. Luckily, he didnt care.We got a weekday deal where we paid for 4 nights and then the 5th was free. That was the ONLY reason this place wasnt extremely overpriced, because it averaged out to $140/night instead of $180. It was still overpriced in my opinion due to the lack of space and entertainment available.Walkability: Not at all walkable

Step back in time to a bygone era. Clean comfortable rooms. Free wi-fi and ample parking. A Cajun musician provides entertainment each evening. Delicious breakfast prepared by a chef each morning. Stroll the beautiful grounds or sit in the outside area. Very peaceful.Nearby activities: Close to downtown and all the immunities there. Restaurants, Cathedral, museum…so much to enjoy.

Room was very nice and clean. The place is very calming with trees and nature. Loved every second of it. Only serve breakfast which was great. Wish they did dinner. Plenty of places to eat at though. Will be back to stay again absolutely.

We loved the charm of the room, service and city. This was like an oasis after so many big box motels. We liked wandering around the neighborhood ( we come to learn it is mostly owned by the hospitality company who runs this spot.) Nice staff, we wanted to stay but the website we were looking at said must have 24 hr notice. But, as we sat outside a man came up and asked if we wanted to stay. For a good room rate and we settled in nicely. The company at breakfast was delightful and interesting. The innkeeper came in and gave us all great advice on seeing the area and getting to NOLA. They have an amazing set up for events and weddings.

We stayed for three days and had a total six rooms for our family. All three days were amazing - we looked forward to breakfast each morning and every morning out did the previous. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were comfortable and beautiful while still showing you what might have been there in the 1800s. I loved being immersed in the beauty of this plantation. Thank you for treating us like family. Can't wait to come back.

We were pleased to spend 5 nights at this Bed & Breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the accommodations were commensurate with the age of the main house. The Breakfasts were good and the recommendations for local Cajun food restaurants were spot on. We thoroughly enjoyed John playing Cajun and Creole music during happy hour. Donelle was kind enough to give us a tour of the house, including historic facts and fun stories about its history. She even was kind enough to ship my slippers to my home after I left them under the bed. From my stay at Mouton Plantation, I can tell you that nothing beats their homegrown hospitality. This place is a must stay for anyone looking for a home away from home.
