I'm not a regular customer BUT I've never had a bad experience with U-Haul & I've been using them exclusively since the 70's in New Orleans, Gretna & Metairie, Louisiana.

Worst experience so far with U-Haul. I reserved a utility trailer and once we hooked the trailer up to do the tow inspection turns out that the trailers lights didn't work. I had to cancel because they don't know how to properly check their equipment for rentals.

Just rude and disrespectful folks. Just go somewhere else. Don't even attempt to assist you. Just walk off and then act like they are doing you a favor after you put in a reservation. Just no customer service here

I was grateful for the truck because I had some things to move last minute. The price was reasonable and renting it went smoothly. HOWEVER - the agent was so rude and unprofessional that short of another emergency, I would not go back to that location for my moving needs and if at all possible I will look for a local company.

If I could give the location a zero that would be my decision. My terrible experience occurred on 11/15/2020. My plan for that day was to return the 15-foot truck and auto transportation device to this location after my 10-hour trip the day before. Trying to be proactive I went to the office to evaluate the storage unit I was planning on renting just to make sure it was big enough. The U-Haul employee was very nice and let me go up and look at the empty unit. After this nice gesture of kindness, the rest was downhill. So, I returned with the 15-foot truck and my car transport to be disconnected and load the furniture into the storage unit. When we pulled up on the side of the building there was another vehicle ahead of us trying to unload. I went to ask the staff what I should do next to unload and turn in my truck. One of the staff told me to just wait and he would give us the signal to move forward. Well, the staff member (an older white gentleman) gave us the signal to move forward. There was another person in front of him who told us to stop. We were very confused. The person that told us to stop we later found out was the manager VJ Mackel Jr. He yelled at us and he yelled at the older staff gentleman and pushed him out of the way. The employee was upset, and I was embarrassed for him. You do not treat staff like that in front of customers. We were told by Mr. VJ Mackel we had to travel around the store, park in the parking lot next door for removal of our vehicle from the auto transport. I tried to explain that we were told U-Haul would remove the vehicle. U-Haul attached the vehicle before we started, and we were told U-Haul would remove the vehicle from the platform. He was very persistent and rude stating that was not his job. BUT he would remove it if I paid for his services. So, I had to get back in the customer service line and paid an additional 21.84 cents. Mr. VJ Mackle General Manager continued to be very rude and cursed my husband. Then he called the police. The police came and we explained all the events to the officer. The office stated that they have received several calls in the last few months from that U-Haul location and the sequence of events is the same. The manager uses curse words at the customer and then calls the police playing the victim when he (the manager) initiated the escalation of events. After the conversation with the officer, she suggested we continue to load our belongings in the storage unit and then just leave avoiding the manager. We backed up the 15ft truck to the loading dock and was just going to start unloading when the manager came out and told us he did not want us to store our belongings at his location. He then the 21.84 unloading fee he charged me. So here I was with a truckload of furniture and nowhere to put it. I was so upset and tired. I found a better place with wonderful customer service after a few hours of calling around the city. So I did unload after a few hours. I did not want to return the truck back to that location, but it was the only option. I was hoping he was not there. And I forgot to fill the truck. That was my error. But my nerves were shot. After that day I was charged a $150.85 storage fee and the 21.84 charge for the vehicle was still on my credit book charges. This location's manager is horrible and very, very rude. I will never go to this location again.

Up until today experiences with uhaul were always good.... until today. Rented a 10 foot truck without reservation from iesha who was by her self and giving a master class in customer service. After looking for the truck I find it, remove the big windshield sign off to the side and go about my merry business. I return the truck after using 1 or 2 gallons of gas and don't replace. I will let them charge the 3.50 a gallon as it's not worth my time. They're a business, it's ok. I was moving plants so there was some debris so I was told I would be charged for cleaning and throwing their sign away. The cleaning I thought 'oh yea' grabbed a broom and swept it out in 20 seconds. I then ask what's this sign charge? "You threw our sign away" "You mean the sign in the window that I placed 3 feet to the left of the truck" "It doesn't matter you threw it away" "Please show me anywhere it says the customer is responsible for the sign" "I said so" "I need you to show me where I signed on this contract where it says that" "You need to get the F^*k outa here" "I need to speak with the manager" "I am the manager now get the F^*k out" Iesha, who should be the manager, was so concerned she pulled me to the side because she didn't want me to leave angry to comfort me. I asked her if she had any clue the charge he was talking about and she shook her head with crazy eyes saying "I have no idea what he is talking about" There was no talking with the manager. I was going to pay him whatever he was going to charge me and there was nothing I could do. Still waiting to hear back from uhaul corporate so we shall see how far up this horrible customer service goes or if there are more ieshas up in the mix who know how to listen and deal with customers! I could not in good conscience give one star as Iesha was a star all by Update: terrible service all the way to the top. Money was refunded in seconds and I was told, as I had asked for, a high level manager would call me back. Took me 4 weeks of being hung up on and finally someone said that no one was going to call me because by accepting the immediate refund they closed my case without talking to me. Stole from me and probably do it to a lot of other people, cursed me out because I called out the theft and uhaul laughs about it. He constantly kept up the 'what do you want' game so I said my money back to which he laughed and said there is no way I would ever get my money back! Use Penske or any other moving place. There is a reason this location is 1 star. Don't go there

Due to traffic I was a few minutes behind which caused them to but a $200 hold on my card. The gentleman told me it'd be released as soon as the truck is returned, Lie 3-5 business day's. Even though my original reservation quoted me $65 after their ridiculously unnecessary hold it cost $315.56 to pick my truck up after "deposit & fee's" Their debit card keypad doesn't work, so they have to print everything which takes longer, I suggest being there at least 30 minutes early, more likely 45 minutes for covid restrictions in order to avoid it cutting into your rental time. I also suggest a morning pick up, I rented 2-8 however it's not drop the truck off by 8 it's complete the return process before 8 which involves cleaning & taking multiple pictures so get there by 7:30-7:40 since the process takes about 15 minutes. So even though my alloted time was 6 hours I only received 4.5 hours of use. I suggest using any other company, or a morning pick up, but remember to be there about 45 minutes before your pick up time.

Rented a van to move things from Algiers to Waveland. When we picked up the van, the check tire light was on. My husband went inside and told the employee about it. He was told that they had checked the tire and it was fine. We drove to Waveland and stopped for lunch. When we came out of the restaurant, the front passenger tire was completely flat. We called U-Haul and they said we were too far away for them to service. They called a Mississippi service company who said it would be hours before they get to us. We spent hours in the heat in a parking lot. My mother was with us and she is in her 70's. My daughter was with us and she threw up from the heat. When we finally got back and returned the van. I asked for a credit for our experience. I was told that I had probably picked up a nail on my way to Waveland and I was lucky that they didn't charge me a late fee for bringing the van back late. The manager was V.J. and he was so rude and condescending. He finally agreed to giving us a $50 credit out of $131 rental but he never put it thru. It's been weeks and no credit.

Worse location. They do not disclose the need for a credit card instead of debit and cash. They need more employees as the ones that they have do not work quickly or efficiently no sense of urgency. A guy was waiting over an hour to get his trailer. We waited over 20 minutes just in line. They have information that needs to be filled out via a phone but don't have WiFi to make that quicker for older customers or people with less data. Should have a separate line for people that want supplies vs people that need to rent something motor/vehicle related. One of the workers was even in the store bad mouthing about the customers.

Was instructed to park in the handicap parking spot because they did not have parking spots on the right hand side of the isle by the General Manager. The left hand side had about 15 open spots with no indication of them being special or no parking area. So I parked in an open spot. Got out of my car started walking in and got yelled at by an employee while the General Manager watched. Just get in and out. General Manager told employee not to sell me anything because I was parked in the opens spots. His little kingdom that he has ultimate power. -1 star for customer service.

I'm always moving something or helping someone move, so I frequently need a Uhaul or van to do so. I continue to use this location, because the customer is unmatched. The employees always maintain professionalism, even during times where there were super busy. I always reserve my rental and they always have it ready and waiting for me. They have the cheapest rates in this area and are very understanding if you need your rental longer than reserved. I also enjoy that every rental, that I've rented, had a full tank of gas. The vehicles are always super clean on the inside and if there's any discrepancies on the paperwork, the staff assist to correct the error immediately. The location has a drop box so you are able to return your rental outside of business hours. They also have on call customer service agents to assist if you have any vehicle issues. The vehicles they rent out all run like brand new and are very well maintained. I'll probably need to move something again soon, I'll be back again.

On Friday, September 15th, around 10:00am, I went to purchase propane from this location. Upon arrival there was a couple ahead of me renting a truck. I asked the lady working if there was anyone available to assist me. She said no. She stated that someone should be here soon and she would assist when done with the couple ahead. I replied ok. While waiting a young male, small statue, dressed with regular clothes on wearing shades drove up and parked a U-Haul truck with a hitched trailer attached in front of my food truck. He entered the building went somewhere upstairs and changed into a uniform. At that time three more customers entered the store. The female assisting me in the store put gloves on and told the customers waiting that she would be back. When she approached my food truck the young male dressed in uniform came up and started talking with a new male employee about having to LEARN how to put propane in trucks. He wanted to use my time to train the new employee. I stated, "no sir, please allow this lady to fill my tank because she did it before and know how to do it, I am in a hurry". She proceeded to fill my tank. I went back into the store paid and thanked her. I walked to the door to leave and was confronted by General Manager VJ Mackel Jr. He stated, "Ms Beasley can I talk to you". I replied hurrying out, "yes". He stated that he noticed every time I come to the store I am in a hurry. I replied, "yes I am, I am in a hurry now". He stated that the person who assisted me was to remain in the store at all times and that I had to wait for the person working outside to help me. That rule is not posted in the store for customers to see. Every two to three months there are new employees working outside and filling propane tanks. He appeared vexed because I did not allow him to train his new employee who did not know how to put propane in a tank during my turn for service. I asked to see his boss and he flipped over his badge with OWNER written on the back. He stated he did not want me in his store. I don't know of any manager or owner of a business approaching a paying customer who enters a establishment with respect stating the don't approve of them stating they are in a hurry and don't come to their store. General Manager VJ Mackel Jr., OWNER, would not have approached a male of any statue and made that statement. I am a black female, senior citizen nearly seventy years old. This behavior is the utmost disrespect. I am a professor, public health practitioner, and owner of a very successful business. I want to be compensated for every dollar I spent at U-Haul #4 for the past 18 months. Yes, sir Mr. General Manager VJ Mackel Jr. I won't return for fear you might do something harmful to my property. Thank you for the heads up! This location should not have the U-Haul name. Service is bad and management need professional education to learn how to treat CUSTOMERS who spend $$$$. LESSON #1. You don't pick your customers, they pick you.

Rude employees pick a different location Not professional location 4 westbank expressway gretna la 70053 august 2017 I called the store to make a uhaul reservation and after the call was over the employee called me a bitch and stupid many times and talked about me for 5 min. She didn't realize I was still in the phone and the call was recorded. I reported this to uhaul corporate. I hope management can address this concern. I was born and raised here and always speak highly of people from Louisiana ,but this I was completely shocked and disappointed to be spoken about in this way for no reason.

They have a utility dolly and protective cloths in the back that are and inconveniently located and if you need to move them you have to remove the seal which makes you Payton use them. Spend the extra money and go else where.

U-haul has reasonable prices and decent trucks when you need to move yourself. The issue is the reservation process. When you reserve online, there is no guarantee that your truck will be ready. I made a reservation expecting the truck to be ready for 8, but when I arrived, I was told it wouldn't be in till later that evening. Once I had the truck it was great, but when you need it in the morning and it isn't there, your out of luck. Even if you register online, call and make sure your truck will be available.
