“Under the new management, Back Brusly Grocery (now "Back Brusly Grocery Oaks") has been given a fresh new feel (and fill). It's a small convenient store that stocks basic goods such as milk, eggs, a small variety of canned goods, drinks (water, soda, beer, and liquor), and a rather large selection of candy and to-go snacks (a whole 1½ aisle worth!). There is also a selection of frozen meals (mostly boudin, boudin balls, sausage, biscuits, pizza, hot pockets, etc.) and ice cream. On weekday mornings, there is usually a selection of ready-to-eat biscuits (any combination of sausage/ham, egg, cheese) and boudin links...this is very convenient for me to grab breakfast on the way to work.Seasonally, there is crawfish sold in the weekday evenings and weekend hours. And even peeled crawfish tails and crawfish pies in the freezer section!Management is very nice, inside and outside of store is clean and well kept.”

“A local store where cashiers know most, if not all customers who walk in the door. Very nice and welcoming to all customers tho. Cigarette prices are pretty reasonable and often have discounts like 50% off a pk.”

“Looooove this place for authentic Italian here in Baton Rouge! Recently I tried their Porchetta Pete + their pasta salad, and let me tell you, I'm still drooling over that sandwich! I can't wait to go back and try more of their deliciousness. They also have a freezer section full of misc. pre-cooked meals that just need to be heated, when you are looking for a quick and easy dinner option.”

“The town seemed empty, then we realized that all the people were in this Trader Joe’s. I’m not sure why but I swear the streets are sparse with people but there were a lot of young college age kids shopping here and young mothers.”

“First time eating here today and I could not have been more impressed. Mrs. Cynthia was so welcoming. I had the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, collards, yams and cornbread. Everything was absolutely delicious. Definitely want to come back and try the fried fish!”

“My first time to stop in. Incredible selection! I have Celiac Disease, and they have plenty of Gluten-free options. Lots of vegan items as well. Store is huge. Wish I lived in Baton Rouge, as I could see myself shopping here regularly.”

“Think grocery store chicken and deli. Go there with that sort of expectation. I'm talking the first Blue Store level of expectation. Iykyk. With that being said the beans have smoked meat and sausage in them and are seasoned really well. They taste like real beans and not canned. The fried chicken is some of the best. On weekends I don't feel like cooking, we grab a 25 ct and 2 large beans and that usually gets us through Friday & Saturday with enough left to pack for my husband's lunch on Monday. Not bad. 25 wings cost about $26 after tax and 2 large red beans are about $7 total after tax.”

“The store is stocked full of so many different items. It really is a downtown gem both for the residents of downtown and those who work nearby and need to grab items before hitting the road. The store is usually pretty clean with registers at both entrances of the store. The liquor department is fantastic. they also have freshly prepared foods as well as lots of good produce and meats. There is a small private lot where you can park that is specifically for the sore. The staff is usually pretty friendly, but there have been some less than helpful employees on occasion. I think the later you go, the less attentive they are or the more they're looking at their phones. However, it is a good store.”

“Always friendly people and orders are always ready when I arrive (I call them in). Granted I usually visit on weekends, so I cannot speak for weekday lunch rush wait times. Cannot beat a poboy, chips and drink for about $10.00. And good selection of sandwiches. Highly recommended.”

“Best whole chicken wings that are fried in Baton Rouge. Better seasoned than Blue’s . I have to come here every time I’m in town! They are always fried fresh!”

“What a lovely find in Baton Rouge! I was looking for a place to pick up lunch, the muffuletta was delicious! Quaint little deli carved into this family style grocery store. I could have spent hours in this little gem. Make sure you pick up some of the olive salad, labeled with the Calandro's name. The best around.”

“Staff are stern, but only when it's necessary. The first time I visited the establishment, I instantly fell in love with the place. The prices are fair. Their fried chicken is better than chain store restaurants, cheaper too.”

“After hearing good things about the food at Akasha Market, we stopped in to get fried seafood platters for three. All I can say is, Yummy. The seafood is fresh, perfectly seasoned, lightly battered, and fried golden. The fries that come with it are some of the best in town. I want to try one of their hamburgers next.Highly recommend!!”

“Deli is awesome and there is a lot of prepared dishes which makes it easier for a quick meal at home. There are a few tables so you can dine in but I would suggest to do lunch. No late evening meals here. They close up shop. Specialty foods are available and some wines also.”

“The butcher counter here is epic and well-stocked, with knowledgeable staff and friendly service. If you don’t see what you want they got it in the back. Really good coffee, convenient hours, gumbo in the afternoon. I go once a week to get great cuts of real soul food ingredients - today I got incredibly flavorful beef “bones” for my roasted bone broth. And they offer package specials like 100lbs of various types of meat for $169 and a “Monday Night Game Grilling Special”. Avoid exorbitant high prices for supermarket-grade cuts at “boutique butchers” by visiting Ancona’s 100%!”

“I recently visited this store. The gentleman that owns the store is an angel. There is also an older woman who works in the morning and she is sweet as gold. I say this because I always see them giving back or helping somebody. You never know who's watching, and I am no one, But I love Great Customer Service and to acknowledge it.”

“Okay so everybody kept telling me how good their crawfish was . So me & my bf drive way across town to try them, and let me tell y'all them crawfish was the BEST crawfish I had ever tasted in the Baton Rouge area . I have already recommended them to a lot of people . You would not be disappointed , especially if you like them to be spicy. Definitely will be back there next week. .”

“Visited this location for the first time, and I unfortunately doubt I’d return to it and rather go instead to another. There wasn’t any clutter and the shelves and layout was very clean and organized, and the products seemed well put and stocked too. However, the process to order, wait for, and receive and pay for the food took an utterly excess amount of time. I don’t think it should have took such a long time, to the point where I had to ask the front cashier to please check on our food otherwise we would just have to pay for it and leave without receiving the food since we had to go. Sometimes seemed cashier did not really care too much (?) but other young staff were busy.Food is good, but if you have the patience. I will say I really did enjoy the mushroom burger!”

“This is an amazing corner store, the workers are nice and the service is fast. The hot food tastes really good with the cold beer. The red beans and chicken are a must try here. It would be great if this was a dine in place.”

“This location has fresh produce, which is awesome (strawberries, bananas, lettuce, tomatoes, etc) & in great condition. This location is 5 minutes from my job, which means I don't have to go to Wal-Mart (which most of the time I hate) just to get basic produce. Service is good.”

“Chicken is always hot and delicious. The only two down falls is that their schedule has not been consistent lately. Sometimes open and other times closed a lot for some odd reason. Staff could be friendlier but over solid food.”
