I bought a Spyder jacket on Dec 23rd that was on sale. I asked before I bought it if I could return it since I wasn't sure if it was the right size. The girl told me I definitely could if I took it back the next day which was Christmas Eve. I went around noon or so and some kid at another register said he could help me. I gave him the jacket and told him I wanted to return it and he weirdly walked the jacket to the sale section then came back and said since it smelled like weed I couldn't return it. This was a jacket for a 15 year old boy and it wasn't even taken out of the bag. He said yo just go air it out and come back before 4 :00 and I could return it. I didn't wanna lose my temper and beat up a minor so I agreed but when I got back at 3:25 the store was closed and no matter how hard I banged on the door nobody came to open it plus it said open till 4:00 on the door. So I had to go through all the trouble of disputing it on my credit card and all that. I definitely do not recommend buying anything from here.

This was my first time purchasing from The Backpacker, and it won't be my last! There was a glitch with the size of the shoes I ordered online, and the web team took care of it immediately. They were very friendly and professional. My order arrived quickly and was perfect. The Backpacker gained a new fan.

I'm in Baton Rouge from the Houston area on business for a couple of days. It's raining and I'm between meetings with time on my hands. I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it. Kudos to The Backpacker and the wonderful staff. - Rain Man "And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul." - John Muir

You wouldn’t think shopping at an apparel store would be a memorable experience, but ours was. Friendly, courteous, service oriented staff. 5 star service.

This is a GREAT store! I stopped in today for a last minute gift for someone very hard to buy for. OUTSTANDING customer service, and all the great lines that I normally buy online- ON Shoes, Vuori, Tasc and lots more. I will definitely be back. FANTASTIC addition to shopping in Mandeville.

Katherine was the best sales rep I've ever had. Super patient and informative. She helped me make my decision for travel shoes easy and efficient. Hopefully managers know how much of an asset she is to the company.

Rob is one the most knowledgeable, patient, and most effective customer service person I’ve met in years! I’ve been in sales my entire career and this guy takes the cake.

I feel like it could be a cool store. It is really beautiful inside. I hate buying online so I went in and the lady in the front looks up from her phone long enough to point me to the shoes. I told her I had questions. She merely said "Maddie is back there". I walked to the shoes. It was a lovely display but there was no one around. I waited 10 minutes incase someone was on a bathroom break. No one showed up. As I was leaving the lady at the front was still on her phone and I clearly have no purchase. She doesnt inquire about this but she does politely say "bye". Never asked me if I found what I needed. I decided to just let her know there was no one back there. At this point she thinks about putting her phone down and starts to go to the back. At this point my first impression is formed and I let her know it's no longer needed.I would have liked her to have put aside her personal phone use and taken me back to the store and make sure I was attended to.By the way, two other people were leaving the same time and were also complaining about the service.Probably a good store if you already know what you want... but if you do, why not just buy online??

Has good quality clothing and outdoor gear. I wish they had a bigger selection of women’s clothing. Especially Vuori and Tasc.

I visited the store to purchase a pair of running shoes. When I arrived there was only one associate working with one family in the shoe section. I happily waited my turn. I knew that once she was done she would assist my mother and I. She looked right at us but said nothing. No, "One moment and I'll be right with you." No acknowledgement that we even existed. But still that didn't bother me since she was already helping someone else. Again, I was happy to wait my turn. She then went to the back to get more shoes for the family she was already helping. During her time in the back another family arrived in the shoe section and stood next to us. When she came out the back she walked to the other family and greated them and started assisting them despite the fact that my mom and I were there first. In fact, she said nothing to us and proceeded to walk away from us again with no acknowledgement that we even existed. At that point I interjected and asked her if any other workers were available to help considering several others were in the store in other sections and not busy or doing anything. I literally saw other employees doing NOTHING. She responded no because she is the only one that works in the shoe department. She did however ask me what I needed. I told her I was looking for shoes for flat feet. She pointed at the wall and said those are for flat feet then walked away. I couldn't do anything at that point because you need a worker to get the shoes from the back. Again there were several other workers there doing nothing. It was ridiculous to sit there watching one worker trying to assist three different families nd one family (mine) was completely overlooked and disregarded. At that point I told my mom to put her shoes back on and we left. I rushed to Varsity Sports on the other side of town and luckily barely got there before they closed. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and two employees assisted us. One for me and one for my mom. I'll never go back to the backpacker again. You missed out on $300 plus dollars in sales today because you were too concerned with assisting others WHO didn't buy anything. The family the girl was running behind at backpacker walked out as we were leaving and the other family was doing an exchange. It serves them right for running paying customers away. Customer service goes a long way. We got none of that at the Backpacker today. Retrain yout employees and if you see one department overloaded train your other employees to assist vs telling me they can't help out in the shoe department. Utterly ridiculous. My money worked elsewhere today.

Staff is excellent and helpful. The place is clean and beautiful. I was excited for the Northshore location to open. I have previously shopped at the Lafayette location and I love the company and what they offer. I was there on grand opening day for the Northshore location, waited in line, and won a raffle prize. It’s safe to say I will continue to bring my business there!
