Fantastic vets. Dr. Berryhill takes the time to explain what is going on with my dog and the reasoning behind his decisions for her care.

My daughter brought home a sick kitten found on side of the road. I called the vet when they opened. Ruth said bring her right in and Dr. Berryhill saw her as soon as possible. They have called every 2 days to check on her.

Despite advertising that they treat birds and exotics, they failed to prescribe antibiotics to my sick bird before he stopped eating. He is on death's door and being rushed to a more knowledgeable vet, but the chances of saving him are slim. They wouldn't even force feed him or administer the first round of antibiotics. We left with a prescription and having been told to force feed him ourselves. They may be great with dogs and cats, but do your self a favor as a bird owner and go elsewhere.

Dr. Berryhill stopped what he was doing and took care of my cat right away.
It was nice of him to make me and my cat feel important.

Absolutely wonderful! The vet I normally visit had no appointments open, but my dog needed same day care. They worked with me to get my dog in as early as possible. My dog is large and sporadic, and has lots of energy so he is sometimes hard for me to handle on my own. One of the receptionists held him for me while I filled out paperwork, and they did the same when I was checking out. Everyone was so nice and caring while I was there. Dr. Berryhill was extremely thorough, but didn't go overboard on unnecessary diagnostic testing. The pricing is reasonable, I paid less here than I did at my old vet. This is a fabulous establishment! I honestly can't even remember the name of the vet we have previously used, but I will certainly remember Dr. Berryhill for a long time to come!

From the time our cat adopted us in December of 2009, until this past weekend (right before we had to take him to an emergency vet clinic and, a day later, have him put to sleep), we were served by the Staring Plaza Veterinary Center doctors and staff. In every case, from making appointments to follow up, we and our pet were treated in a professional, congenial, and helpful manner. I could not more whole-heartedly recommend them.

The vet forgot to mention that the vaccinations he was giving my four month old puppy could possibly cause an allergic reaction (that would cause us to rush him to the hospital), which was weird because he made sure he didn't forget to charge us $13 for a nail trim (that you can get for no more than $9 anywhere else). However, it is not the ridiculously high prices that caused me to switch vets and write this review, it's the carelessness.
My boyfriend and I were both at the appointment and neither of us remember the vet telling us that there was a chance our puppy could have a reaction to the vaccinations. When our puppy's face started swelling up, we immediately called Staring Vet Center's "emergency number" and were given an answering machine, so we hung up and drove to the nearest animal hospital. The hospital we went to was about to close and its vet had already gone home for the day; however, when we called her (the vet), she showed up within five minutes in her pajamas to take care of our puppy (care we would've expected from Staring Center). She took care of our puppy, calmed us down, and sent us home with care instructions AND an emergency number that, in the case she was unavailable, would automatically forward to a 24-hour animal hospital instead of an answering machine.
When we went to Staring Vet Center today to see if they could help explain what went wrong, our vet spoke to us in a condescending manner (I'm assuming because he was embarrassed) and put the blame onto the company that the vaccinations came from. I don't think the reaction was the company's fault and I'm well aware there was no way of knowing our puppy would have a reaction prior to the vaccination, I'm upset that the vet failed to let us know of the possibility of a reaction, that the vet failed to let us who to call/where to go in case of an emergency (a number on an answering machine is insufficient; when I'm in a panic because my dog's eyes are swollen shut, I'm not around a pen/paper to write a number down and play telephone with the entire city of Baton Rouge), and that the vet failed to show any remorse or that he didn't seem to care at all about the health of our dog as much as he cared that our credit card went through.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his/her animal here and if I could put less than one star on the review, I would.

They charge me for everything under the sun when my dog does not need most of the services. Very unhappy with what they tell me I need to get for my dog when it's unnecessary. Every time I go there they charge me at least $500 every 6 months.

All of our current and past pets are under Dr. Berryhill's care. The veterinary care is very professional and thorough. Whenever possible, Dr. Berryhill takes a conservative approach and backs up his diagnoses and treatment plans with recommendations from professional literature. So far, he has always been spot on. Our large dogs are treated like babies by the good doctor and his staff (which is probably more important for the owners than the pets themselves). It is obvious that everyone in Dr. Berryhill's office loves animals. We also board the dogs at their kennel facility and there have never been any problems. The office has most necessary diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and X-ray, so little needs to be "farmed out". When one of our dogs developed a middle ear infection last October, bacterial cultures had to be sent out for antibiotic resistance studies, which took a couple of days, followed by a few more days of custom formulation of the antibiotic gel. Today we were pleased to find out that our dog is fine. The office stayed in touch with us over the past 3 months and followed up on the dog's condition after each of the many treatments. If you are looking for a veterinary office "for life", you can count on a very personal and friendly relationship with the chatty doctors and the staff and, most importantly, very knowledgeable and effective veterinary care for your pet.

I have been a pet owner for 30+ years. I've moved a lot and my pets have had several vets. My pets have been treated at Staring Plaza Vet Clinic for 5 years. As far as overall treatment goes, this is clinic is the best one I have experienced. The entire staff is professional and caring. I board my pets here when I need to and know they will receive great care. I trust these people and the clinic.
