Do not pay $14 for the lunch! We got 1 bag of chips to split between 3 of us because they ran out and we pre-ordered lunch, we were not offered a refund or discount even though we didn't receive a full lunch. The "sub" sandwich is about 4" long with 2 slices of water packaged ham and a half slice of cheese, it definitely wasn't a $14 lunch! Everything else was OK, I wish the "ghost buildings" looked a little more authentic but all in all it was an interesting history tour of the coal miners life and times.

Hard pass. Took the trip today to Blue Heroin which is advertised as a company coal town. The ride there takes about 45 minutes to get to Blue Heroin. It is very noisy with not really much to see along the way other than Forrest. You do pass through a tunnel and a old coal mining town which you don't stop at. The ride back the train does not turn around so the return trip is done in reverse so you are riding backwards. The town of Blue Heroin does not exist it is interpretations of what the town looked like. Meaning they have built metal structure's with signs that say school, house, church and so forth. The only thing left is the coal loading station which you can not really see much of. There is nothing here other than some restrooms and a small park service gift/book store. No vending machines or concessions. Which would not of been a problem if the lunch that you purchase at the start was actually provided. We were told about 15 minutes before we let that no lunch today. They did refund the cost but there is no where near to pick up anything else. Very disappointing.

Impossible to hear announcements either in 'station' or on train.
*they eventually caught up with me in person after my previous review and used an actual train to run over one of my arms and then hit me across the face with some moistened lettuce. See what I mean? Out of control. Train makes a clackity clackity sound as it goes along. Annoying and selfish.

Was very disappointed ?, did not get my train ride...they canceled it about 1 hr before boarding...said the engine wasn't working and they didn't have another one. They said would could come back next week...I don't live anywhere close...like 3 hrs away! I will get my $80 back they said in 3-5 business days....funny how it didn't take that long for it to come out!! Gave 1 star because we ate at the whistle stop restaurant and it was good!

Don't let life happen or they'll screw you! Kid woke up the night before scheduled ride with a virus. Called the morning of and left a message to try and reschedule. Got called back hours later by "crystal". Stated I was not looking for a refund but only to reschedule to next week. Woman on phone would not reschedule for the next weekend and was extremely rude and unprofessional about it. I understand not refunding, but to not reschedule is ridiculous.I basically made a $150 donation.

We had a fantastic time riding the Polar Express! The train ride was very entertaining and well thought out. The staff was EXCELLENT, constantly engaging the kids, dancing, singing, and chatting. The kids selected for the acting roles are amazing at what they do.The atmosphere was magical for the small children we brought with us and the adults truly enjoyed it just as much. We will absolutely return.

We went on this for the Polar Express and it was a great time! They have people in the cars dancing along to the music, hand out hot cocoa & cookies and Santa comes along to hand out the first gift of Christmas! The kids had the best time - dress warm and I recommend going when you can see the scenery because it really is beautiful! I would absolutely recommend this! Also, there is a restaurant on site called the Whistle Stop and they did a great job!

The music and antics of the train car staff are jarring beyond words. The destination village is scantily decorated and passengers cannot vet off the train there. It could have been lovely had an event planner been involved and blitzed the village with thousands of lights, Santa photo opps, vendors, arts & crafts, snacks, and Christmas carolers. The train ride is scenic, but NOT festive so the cars need to be drenched in decor and then the village decorated like a Christmas fantasy with about an hour to wander around and do things. It is literally a loud, annoying train ride through a bare KY winter landscape with a brief glance at a little village before backing up and driving away. Have done it twice but never again. Hard pass.

It's was a long drive but hey it's the Polar Express... lots of flare plus a huge train ride for Christmas!!! We got to meet Santa. Had coco and cookie super gift of an awesome bell. This is all for kids and there are lots of them. If you want snacks or treats. This is a Military friendly train.

My husband and I are new to Kentucky. We were not expecting a Disneyland ride. We loved the shops, and we loved everyone wearing their pijamas. We loved the staff, and we can see how hard they want this to work. I loved how hard the teenage staff danced and tried to get the kids involved. You lost the little kids after the hot chocolate and cookies. Then you brought the balloons, which were not in the book. They were too little to understand the train ride, what it meant. Suggestion: lose the stupid balloons, use one of the walls as a screen, and play the movie. Have your teenagers keep doing what they do. The scenery is awesome. The town wants this to succeed; we will be back next year.
