I went there about 10 years ago and was told it was a no kill shelter. I went there about a months ago and was told it had never been a no kill shelter. I know what I was told. And I live in Garrard co and was told I could not leave a pregnant cat there just because I had a Garrard co address, not where the cat came from. I could have just pulled up and dropped it in the parking lot and left or found someone with a Jessamine address and got them to bring it there. they were very unfriendly. They told me I had to bring it back to Garrard co, which I did, but they were not excepting cats but luckily a guy was looking for a cat and took this pregnant mommy kitty.

I was late due to a time mess up and the staff went out of their way to help me with what I needed to achieve for my daughters dog,Butters. They went ahead and performed the process of getting him Chipped and registered and then rescheduled the shot appointment for me. Truly awesome staff who are not only providing shelter and food to lost, unwanted, homeless, mistreated,or underprivileged animals of our community but also they provide necessary and much needed services to everyone in our community whom may need them!! I definitely give them a A+ rating in my book!!

I recently spent close to an hour discussing a current situation with one of there guests! I was given answers too all my questions as well as information I neglected to ask! This place is one of the kindest I’ve ever had the honor of talking with! I’m looking forward too my new friend coming to live with us and this place is now at the top of my “giving” list

Now, I adopted my dog from there a month ago. I adopted a dog they had specifically listed as "housetrained, good with kids of all ages, good with other animals, and good in an apartment. Also very laid back for a Cattle dog"Turns out she's the complete opposite. Has bit at my dog, cat, and child, hurt herself escaping, I had to completely retrain her to go outside. I've put her into training, where I learned she was abused. Tonight, she bit and drew blood on my chihuahua unprovoked. My chihuahua was asleep and "dreaming", that's it.The two stars came from calling the shelter to ask for advice, or what I should do because of my daughter. The woman I spoke with told me that I need to surrender my dog because I didn't do my research to know about the breed. Very insulting actually. Because had they not listed the calming nature of this dog, I would NOT have adopted her. I know about the breed, but I also know the difference between signs of abuse and the dog's nature. IN NO WAY is it because of "the dog's breed" that she is biting. I refuse to listen to someone that just simply works at a shelter, over listening to my vet and the dog trainer I hired. If you don't know what you're talking about, then say nothing. That would help when you write down the dogs information and stick it to the kennel. It would also save someone from having to surrender the dog back to the same shelter that doesn't know what they're talking about.

I am extremely displeased with my hometown animal shelter and staff. I went to pick up a dog that was available.and they first told me that our application was not available, which it was, however, they did not refresh their page on the computer. Then I was told that another person was coming to look at the dog and I was second in line. I waited for about an hour before that person came in. That person brought her application with her, so they had not even received it yet. So mine should have been first. Then that person was getting it for her mother in law. So the Humane Society does not even know the person who the dog was going to. All this time I am being treat rudely and not even getting the dog. What happened to first come first serve. I had my money ready and was set for that dog. What would have happened if that person did not want the dog and I had left? That dog would not have been claimed. That is not fair to the dog or me. I am extremely disappointed in my home town Animal Shelter.

I recently visited this location and looked at both dogs and cats for adoption. I ended up adopting a kitten. The facility is clean and easy to navigate. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I had my 3 year old with me and accidentally let the kittens out of their room several times and they were so patient with us. The animals for adoption are reasonably priced and I love that it includes spay/neuter. I would definitely recommend JCHS if you are looking to adopt a cat or dog!

Adopted a kitten from them through Pet Smart, there was very little info on his intake at the store(he has some minor abnormalities). I called the day I brought Charlie home so I could get some more information on his background. I called after operation hours so left a voicemail, was called first thing the next morning and given all the info they had. They are very professional and made everything a breeze to adopt my boy. Highly recommend them they are great.
