Liz is extremely talented. Her work is exquisite and her prices are fair. I recommend her work for anyone and I've already given her number to a couple friends who are looking to give their houses face lifts

I came to purchase chalk paint, figured I would try the most well known and was led to this location from the Annie Sloan website. First I want to say that the next week I needed more and my daughter was in Knoxville so she stopped to pick up and that experience makes this experience so much better. They took the time to educate me on how I was painting. I am an artist and almost thought it was so unnecessary but figured it was just good customer service and I appreciate that so I listened. But had I not listened, I would have really screwed up my piece. So excellent place for the beginner. I am not sure many places give this level of customer service, but I guarantee the place in Knoxville did not.

Over the past year I have spend OVER $5000 with this business owner. In fact, she has 3 of my projects posted on her facebook page (Ironically).I would describe Liz as "wickedly" talented. With her many years of dealing with people, her cigarette laden laugh and her intense concentration of sizing you up each time she sees you, you are going to get more than you bargain for. These are some of the issues we dealt with:1. If I heard it once, I heard it 50 times...."I did not charge enough" OR "I'll take the hit and not charge you for the time I put into it". After spending thousands of dollars on multiple projects, it was never enough money for Liz. I just don't get it...at what point does she understand that it is her call in the beginning? That she should not talk behind the customer's back (or anyone's)?2. Liz and Doug are not open to changes...when they ask if you like it...better say "YES!". ..she may want you to think if you like what she does, but TRUST ME...don't say anything but "I love it", because she is vindictive and she will begin not to like you unless you tell her how great she has done. She is not open to changing what she has done.3. Make sure ANY repairs are completed on the project she does ...she has an anger management problem and if someone sits an item down on a project she completed and it makes a mark, she will get very mad. I paid $1500 for refinishing a dining table and my carpenter placed a can on the table (it had been fininshed for a month) and it created a ring on the chalk painted top. I asked Liz about it and she said that the person should not have put anything on the table (?)...well, it is a DINING ROOM TABLE! There are going to be a lot of items set on that table. She said she would repair it but she is long gone and never to return. So the paint on the $1500 paint job has a large ring on it. Why?4. The Coup d'etat was asking Liz to paint a blue/green chalk paint on a very old relic piece, an altar table. To sand, and paint a blue and green finish on this piece she asked $375. She asked me to her shop to get the colors correct and when I went there I saw how great the green color was and eliminated the blue paint. Then I asked her if she would SAND the rough areas on the relic, to which her reply was, "well of course we are sanding it". We went over the wax color that was to give depth to the carving. The base of the legs were to be sanded. She sent me a text 2 days later stating she needed me to come see my piece so she could get it out of her shop, she was "so backed up" she needed the space. Before she showed me the piece, she went back to get her husband which I thought was really odd. She walked around the table where it was strategically placed and showed me. It looked the same from when I had been in 2 days before, when her husband had put the first green coating on. It was not sanded, the angles in the joints were not nicely waxed, there were still rough areas to the top. Essentially, she was wanting a reaction from me. I asked her nicely if she could shadow it more with some of the dark wax... AT THAT POINT SHE VERBALLY ASSAULTED ME....Thank God I had my dog with me or I would have been very scared. She verbally lunged at me and I ran for the door. She was insulting me left and right.Essentially---this is what I mean about wickedly talented. She has painting talent but she is abusive. But hey, with friends like Liz and Doug who needs enemies, right? They both say they are not afraid of dying because they know where they are going....well, good luck with that!

Good painter but she is not open to change. She has a tendency to undercharge then get mad about it. My advice is to get a estimate and make sure you ask Liz if she is ok to make a change no matter how small after it is done. Then follow through before you pay her.

My husband and I have done over $5000 worth of business in the past year with "Liz Douglas" Design. A total of 4 jobs. Liz complained constantly to my designer about not "charging her enogh"on each item. She constantly talked about my designer behind my designers back. TRUE On my dining room table that she charged me $1500 to paint, it sems like the wax that was placed over the chalk paint was not set properly. My electrician sat a can down on the table and it left a definite circle. This can was not rusty nor was it drug across the wood. For this much money to paint, ane being a dining table, I dont think it should so easily be damaged. Liz saw it and complained how the electrician should not have put a can on it. She was supposed to fix it but never did. TRUE My designer requested for Liz to put other colors on aexisting new picture to help match the decor. I asked Liz not to spend too much time on it because I did not want to invest in an already existing picture that was paid for. Again, I was listening to her and "how much time" she put into it and when she charged me $550 to ruin my picture completely and have Doug paint the legs of my chair a gaudy silver paint as well as my bathroom mirror she said "I'll take the hit on it". I was stunned. Of course, I did not get a estimate on this before and that was a mistake. I never dreamed she would have charged this much. The coup d'etat was when I had Liz give me an estimate to paint a relic altar table with 2 colors of chalk paint. She demanded that I come to her store on a Saturday and see the color to determine if it was ok. When I saw the first layer, I liked it and commented that it was a great color and I did not need a second color. We went over how she was going to paint it and lastly I asked if was going to be sanded in the many rough areas. Her comment was "of course". (Keeping in mind the labor went down from 2 layers of paint to one) The appointment litereally ended with her telling me and my designer that we had spent too much time in the store and that we needed to go, her business was so backed up and she needed to work. This was rather odd because she is the one who kept the conversation going. I felt hurt and also it was rude. She texted me 2 days later telling me that she wanted me to come see the piece TODAY. Since I had plans that day and did not plan on going to her store I let her know. The next day she texted me that she wanted that piece out of her store and that her husband was going to bring it to my house (site unseen). I immediately went down to see it. Nothing had been done differently except painting it all one color (since Saturday). The wood was rougn, it was sloppy and none of the contours were accentuated with dark wax. It had not been sanded at all. When I pointed it out, she verbally assaulted me. I was shocked and alarmed. She had even called her husband from the back of the store before she started up on me. I could not help but think it was orchestrated. Thank goodness I had my sweet dog with me to protect me (which Liz gave a very disapproving look when I brought her in (leashed)---but there was no way I would keep her in the hot car!). She charged me $375 plus the week before had accepted $50 from us to get dinner. Lastly on an odd note...after all this, Liz was super sweet to my husband...hmmm...kind of like patronizing....hmmm. Over all, very unprofessional. Hurtful experience.
