Rian's Fatted Calf is always worth the detour when passing through Bowling Green.
They have high-quality meat and friendly service. They're happy to share tips on what type of cuts to order and best practices on preparation.
They have a wide selection of seasonings and deli foods as well.
My favorite cut is the dry-aged ribeye, the drier the better! I haven't found anything comparable so far and I have visited butchers in Chicago, Louisville, Denver, etc.

The owners and all of the staff here are absolutely wonderful people, and the service is always absolutely top notch. They have by far the best quality meat and seafood in town, with an incredibly large selection. Always a very clean establishment. They slice their meat to order, and are very knowledgeable and always willing to provide recommendations if you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for for a certain dish. Their steaks are some of the best I’ve had.

Hands down the best meat in town! My husband meal preps for all of our meals and we eat a lot of meat. We’ve tried all the big chain stores, local piggly wigglys and IGAs but the meats were always dry, inconsistent in flavor and texture. As prices climb and quality degrades it was time for a change. Many people that go to our gym suggested the Fatted Calf. Oh. My. God. You don’t think there could possibly be that much difference but there is. The hormones and junk they put into chain meat makes it gross by comparison. You won’t believe the flavor and juiciness of meat purchased from your local butcher. Does it cost more ? Of course! Duh! But if you stop eating out and drinking Starbucks twice a day then it’s affordable. You just swap out what you budget for gross fast food and sugary drinks and put that money towards quality meat. It’s better for your health and supports a local business and ranchers. Trust me, it’s worth the investment.

They were super helpful because I needed thinly sliced pork for Ramen night! Awesome prices for what it was! I’ve been happy every time I’ve been in and they are super helpful if you are unsure what you’re looking for like I was!

Best steak I’ve had in years. Also bought some thin sliced to make steak sandwiches with and some stew meat. Their ground beef is top quality, flavor is best you can get. Tell them what you’re making (sandwiches, grill, fry, roast, stew) and they will set you up with the best meat and cuts - they do custom slicing on the spot. Very clean shop. Five star butcher.

Finally stopped in to buy some steak & was very impressed. There’s a great variety of meat, cheeses, spices/sauces, homemade sides & more. I chose a flank steak to make fajitas & couldn’t have been more impressed with the quality of the meat. It needed zero trimming, you could tell it was very fresh and needed little seasoning to taste amazing. The counter workers were helpful & very efficient at filling orders as well. Prices are higher than what you’ll find at grocery stores, but you’re also getting a much better product so the value is still there. I’ll definitely go back ✌?

I am from Italy so I am very careful about the food I purchase for me and my family, but I am happy to say that I am impressed by the selection and quality of meats that Fatted Calf offers. On top of that, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly.

Great butcher shop. Was a regular when I lived in BG 15+ years ago. Anytime I’m within an hour I swing by and load up. Thick cut White Marble pork chops and a 40oz porterhouse.Great people!
