Dr Scott was perfect. We brought our 13 year old dog in knowing she was going to pass soon. Dr Scott was kind, understanding, and made sure we were well informed. She got me near an extra week with my dog, and I will never forget that.

As always staff attentive and helpful. Vets great at comforting animals and parents (or Aunts). Great communicators.

Dr.Scott is the greatest when it comes to working with adopted shelter dogs like mine(Winston) he was extremely broken/defeated from, what I can only imagine was a horrible life and being returned back to the shelter twice due to behaviors that nobody was willing to work him thru, until he met Kendra and I and then Dr.Scott..The staff is amazing as well..

I'm new to the area but because my cat was diabetic (now in remission), I take her to the vet a lot for check ups. Not only is this hospital affordable but they're very caring. My cat, Petunia, doesn't even hide or try to escape the backpack I use to take her to the vet anymore. She crawls right in. Whereas she is still shy while there, I think she's comfortable for a cat who gets the occasional thermometer up her butt. They always treat her well and help me out so much, even if I'm just contacting them with a question. Petunia is my bestfriend and my soul pet so I want nothing but the best care for her. She's been to a lot of vets in her life, and they've all been great, but this one seems to be her favorite and is my favorite because she seems far more content going in.

My dogs and I have gone to Family Pet since we moved back to the KC area a year ago, and I was previously pleased with their service. They saw my dogs for their annual exams and my girl when she wasn’t acting like herself. I was planning on taking advantage of their annual dental special to get both dogs’ teeth cleaned next spring. Sadly, they merged with Sunflower Animal Hospital, and things aren’t the same.First off, I called the vet Saturday morning after realizing late Friday night that my dog was in pain and not able to jump onto the bed and did not seem like her normal self. I was told that they were fully booked (understandable on a weekend; local vets are all very busy) and their next appointment was on Wednesday with no attempt to schedule an appointment on Wednesday. The lady I spoke with recommended that I take her to the emergency vet, since it sounded like an emergency. I didn’t and she was better by Wednesday, but this just goes to show that the practice seems to be quite busy and there is no need to extort clients to generate business (keep reading; this is relevant.)Two days later, I received a notice that the order I’d placed for Heartworm/flea/tick/parasite meds on the online pharmacy the week prior had been declined. I called to find out why and was told that they wouldn’t give me 6 months’ worth of meds just 3 months before the dogs were scheduled for their annual exams. This is not a law, it is just their policy. Not only did I find this offensive, as it implies I would skip my dogs’ annual vaccines if they had their heartworm preventative, it also doesn’t make me feel like they care about my pets AT ALL.Since I’d just confirmed that the practice was extremely busy, I was sure I’d misunderstood that they’d have a policy like this in place. I called back and asked if the doctor could make an exception since I did have 2 dogs (in the same weight range) that could each take one of the tablets each month, so they’d be gone in 3 months anyway. I was told that was not an option because it’s illegal for me to split the prescription between my two dogs. I asked to speak to someone else to confirm, and the next person I spoke to confirmed, in a honeyed voice, that they WOULD grant a prescription request for 6 individual doses of the dogs’ medicine, but not for a 6 pack of the exact same medicine. The difference in price is $134 through their online pharmacy.Since this interaction, I’m pleased to say that I’ve found a new practice that has confirmed that they grant their clients prescription requests even when it means that meds will extend beyond the date of the annual scheduled exam, presumably trusting that pet owners who are responsible enough to keep their dogs on a heartworm preventative will also keep their rabies vaccines up to date.Unfortunately, the new practice can’t give me prescriptions until they’ve seen my dogs, and they can’t administer their annual vaccines until a month prior to the regularly scheduled date. All of the heartworm medicine options for my dogs are only available in 6-month packs or at double-price, so my dogs will be untreated until January unless I pay the $134 extra (which I won’t do, on principle) or pay for an extra exam for both dogs at the new vet and then take them back for vaccines in January. If you’re considering this vet, I suggest you factor in how important convenience, respect, and care for your pets are to you before selecting Sunflower Animal Hospital.
