Yesterday I had a car emergency after the open hours of this business, so I made a reservation for a car online in order to make it to my work the rest of the week. I made a reservation for the “managers special” which offers the cheapest vehicle available, however I noted there were several other vehicles offered at this location other than the managers choice. The reservation was confirmed and I Ubered this morning to the location about 45 minutes after they opened, which was when my pickup time was set. When I got to the location, the employee said that because I made the reservation last night, there was nothing available because of the “chiefs game”, and there was nothing he could do for me to get me a vehicle. He did not help me with anything else, and continued with his work. Because I had only an hour to get to work, I quickly bought another Uber to a different rental location, and rented a vehicle there instead.
I am hesitant to believe the chiefs game excuse, as their parking lot was full of cars, however because I was in a time crunch, I did not have time to argue or demand a car. I wasted money on a Expedia rental car policy that I cannot get a refund on, and wasted money buying another Uber to a different location. IF it was the case that they had not cars available, I should not have been given the option to rent the car in the first place. If for SOME reason there was a glitch in the system, the company should have contacted me at the start of the workday instead of waiting for me to pay for an Uber and waste my time and money going to their business.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Made a reservation and the morning I show up to pick up, they tell me they don’t have any vehicles. They said they attempted to call me, but I have no missed call from them. They then tried to call my phone while I was at the counter and it magically went through. So turns out they didn’t try to call or even send an email saying they didn’t have a reservation for me. Just left he hung out to dry with no other options solution except for driving 30 minutes to another location. Do yourself a favor and avoid Hertz and this location in particular.

Worst HERTZ experiance ever. I reserved the car, and I called the evening before for the confirmation. Followed the instructions given over the phone and went to the website for the confiamtion. When I went to the store, they said the car was not available and they were LYING that they called me to inform that the car was not available. They never called me, I showed my phone showing that they never called and I asked them to show me the proof that they called me but they refused to show the proof. They have least regard about customers. Probably they are lying about cars too. I called HERTZ customer service, customer service over the phone cancelled the reserrvation and rebooked at different location. I asked her to check the availability while I was on the phone, she put me on hold and told me that she got the confirmaiton from that location. When I went to the 2nd location, the same thing, the reserved car was not available. The person at the location said no body called to confirm. Who is lying here? Looks like entire Hertz is deceving customers. I missed my son's college counselor meeting regarding his admission. Now I have to reschedule and spend thousands of dollars to fly again for the next appointment, not to mention days lost. If any one wants to take a class action lawsuit, I will be happy to share the reservation, details phone records, converstion recordings (video).

Manager was rude, and hung up on me. I have had a hard time getting this issue resolved and have tried to call corporate. The employees name is Elijia Wright. He needs to be counciled on how to positively represent his company.
*edit- still have not heard back from Hertz after several days. I have emailed 3 times, and I’ve heard nothing! This is not the Hertz company I had trusted for decades!

I’ve had nothing but great experiences at this location since I started renting from Shawnee Hertz in 2022. Staff called me ahead time since I booked on last minute and told me they were out of cars. Trevor assisted in finding me another option at a nearby location. I truly feel disgusted for the bad reviews that are left behind for this location. Majority of them come from people who rant and seem to be miserable. Highly recommend giving them a chance if you can. Our prospectives are different when we give a business a chance and not rely on reviews that give narratives that may be false.

Horrible customer service. Conflicting statements between their location and the Shawnee location about the mysterious gas charges I was charged for (even though I dropped the vehicle off with a full tank and have a receipt saying so) - they won’t provide their receipt for the “gas they had to put in it” due to their “privacy policy” nor will they even look at the receipt I have for filling up their vehicle before drop off. I just have to take their word for it apparently. Total crooks.

I am writing this review specifically for Trevor at the Shawnee, KS location.
He went above and beyond to help us with our Thriffy rental overcharges due to early return.
Our vacation was cut short due to family emergency (Father-in-law) had cancer and took a turn for the worst and we needed to get home asap. After dropping the car off 2 days early and being told we would not be charged extra; we immediately saw an additional charge to our credit card that ended up almost double the original rental rate. I called customer service, messaged back and forth with Facebook messenger customer service, drove to Overland Park, KS location… all said basically sorry too bad.
we decided to try the Nieman (Shawnee, KS)location and Trevor was amazing! He called and explained the situation and was able to get us a credit! His time and consideration for us (customers) was a blessing to us during a time of crisis!

We attempted to rent a car from this location and I wish I could give this a 0 star rating. Horrible customer service, no curtesy, and every employee we encountered was incredibly rude! Avoid this location.

They will cancel the reservation if you book it online.
I have called them directly to ask cars are available then i have made the booking.
After that he canceled.
I didn’t know what is the problem with online booking.

Worst rental car place ever!!! They are not only rude, they are racist. Even if you book weeks in advance the second they see you are a person of color they tell you they don't have cars and can't break anyone else's contracts yet they break yours the day of! Then when asked for the number to corporate they try to dismiss you and not give you the number and tell you to find it on your own! Hertz needs to get a hold on this location before they get a lawsuit for discrimination! Looking over these reviews it seems to be a on going situation and issue!

Awful experience.Dont rent a car from here.I have rented a car from here twice and twice the car smells full of smoke and the engine sound was killing me.When I went there for an exchange they told me they don't have any cars right now for exchange but I can clearly see they have cars terrible experience. The guy working at the counter is not welcoming at all.

I am extremely likely to recommend Hertz Shawnee for several reasons. First off, their customer service is very efficient and friendly. They take time to get to know you and your needs and are happy to make sure that they do their best to fulfill those needs. Second, the vehicles that they rent are very clean, and they make sure to take pictures at pick-up (many rental car agencies do not take the time to take pictures of their cars at pick-up). Finally, they keep their rental office very clean and comfortable. I would recommend Hertz Shawnee to others!
