I will start out with the positive, which is that I believe that the medical professionals at this facility are quality. I have enjoyed good medical care here and have a good relationship with my doctor. Recently, my experiences with this office have been exceptionally poor. From incessant demands to urgently pay insignificant bills (somewhere around $70) under various threats, as if I’m some sort of collection risk, to awkward phone calls about insurance coverage when trying to schedule a basic appointment for an annual physical, to my specific experience two days ago, I'm not sure that I am able to continue using this medical office. I will share some details about what happened two days ago. I had a 9:30 AM appointment. Per standard office policy, I was asked to arrive early, and I did dutifully arrive early. I sat and waited for over an hour. To be running that far behind at such an early hour indicates practice overscheduling and time mismanagement. I don't fault the doctor for this. I finally got out of my appointment and got into my car to leave at around 11:10 AM. I received a phone call at 11:12 AM from what looked like the doctor's office. I answered and was asked to come back inside so that more blood could be drawn as not enough was drawn the first time. I went back inside and offered up my second arm. (Note that the phlebotomist was a pleasant person, despite my frustrations with the global experience.) After my second visit, my total time in the doctor’s office for a simple annual physical exceeded two hours. Shortly after leaving the office for the second time, I realized that the blood draw could be materially altered by the fact that I consumed food after my original discharge. I spent good time trying to reach someone at the doctor’s office and was ultimately routed to the “practice manager”, for whom I left a detailed voicemail per his voicemail’s instructions. I heard nothing back that day. The following day, yesterday, I received a call back from the doctor’s nurse. She explained the impact the blood drawing error would have on the blood results. I shared with her my additional frustrations besides the blood drawing error, including awkward phone calls, poor time management, poor customer service, etc. I also expressed my belief that most of this probably wasn’t within her domain to address, and she said she would ask the practice manager to get back with me as she was not aware that he had not called me back yet. The practice manager never called. I am left to believe that this office is so busy that the patient experience has become of secondary importance. In the world of business, which is where many doctors’ offices seem to be today, if you make a mistake, you make up for it. Sometimes that comes in the form of an apology. Other times it’s a refund, a promise to do better next time, or providing the service over again without error (e.g., offering to perform a blood draw correctly and not charge twice). Time management is important in all industries, and having someone spend more than two hours for a basic appointment that was scheduled for the early morning before much schedule variance is supposed to occur is like saying that your time (i.e., the patient’s time) isn’t valuable. I'm disappointed. I would welcome a call from the practice manager to address all of the above, if that would be within his job description. Please note that this review was written in response to an automated text message I received on my personal cell phone asking questions about my experience.

We have been seeing Dr. Trystan Crook, D.O. Since 2009 as our Primary Care Physician (PCP) and we have appreciated his caring, thoughtfulness and understanding the entire time.
One of the great features of College Park Family Care, is not only do they have a good staff of PCP's, but in addition have a variety of excellent specialists, they have the facilities for X-Rays, MRI's, etc.

15 people sitting in the reception area with headsets on and you can’t answer the phone without being on hold for 10 minutes. I’m out

If I could give zero stars, I would.
Recently switched care here and was happy to get an appointment relatively quickly. During the appointment I went over my medications at least twice, maybe three times. Requested refills on all my prescriptions, made an appointment for 3 months in the future for a med check. Fast forward to late last week when I realized I was running out of one of my meds and went to refill at my pharmacy.
No rx was ever sent. Ok, honest mistake. I'm a new patient, things probably got lost in the shuffle. Messaged through the patient portal and a few days later got confirmation that the prescription was sent over. Went to pick up the rx and the dosage and amount are wrong. Ok, honest mistake, I tell the pharmacist. I'll message again and let them know this is incorrect.
Sent a version of the following: Hi there, I need a refill on this med. The pharmacy received an rx that only had 15 pills. I take 2 a night and as needed, so I would need more than 15 to stretch to my appointment which is at the end of September.
Here was the response: Dr. Crook is not interested in sending any additional amount of medication for you other than the 15 tablets. You can discuss this at your next visit.
I have no problem discussing dosages and changes to my medications. What I do have a problem with is establishing your medication with your doctor, and then being denied said medication when you've already met and talked about it. So, instead, you choose to essentially cut me off medicine that helps me sleep and fight panic attacks (which, thanks to this whole ordeal are worse now).
Turns out, you're not supposed to cut off this medication cold turkey. Some of the side effects of doing that are insomnia, increased anxiety, irritability, seizures, uncontrolled movements, lightheadedness, altered perception, strange dreams, inability to concentrate. I've now experienced most of these symptoms and am really hoping I won't have a seizure. The anxiety over that is super fun, by the way.
I 'have no interest' in being a patient here if this is what it looks like. Hopefully, this review can inform others whether this type of 'care' is what they're looking for.

I’m so grateful for this place. Any time I go anywhere else I’m reminded why College Park Family Care is my home. Thank you to everyone that works there and has cared for me over the years. Will continue to recommend this place to everyone.

I had a really unfortunate experience when I went to collect my medicine from CVS. To my surprise, the doctor had prescribed a medication meant to be applied on the face, even though I had gone there seeking treatment for arms for my daughter! To make matters worse, I had to pay the bill for the wrong treatment!!

Well, you asked. First off, I just read Gretchen Morgensen's book "We are the Plunderers," about private equity. She had an entire chapter dedicated to HCA right here in Overland Park. It was not good stuff. Her expose of private equity in health care and especially with HCA hospitals and practices shed a lot of light on what I experienced. I had two very bad experiences with two doctors, Calvin Beck and Charles Sullivan. The waits were atrocious, the care was sloppy, the facilities were abysmal, the doctors more concerned about vacations and high wages than about care. My primary care physician wouldn't listen to me. That lack of listening almost led to a disaster that did not have to happen. Then, I had another one of your doctors try to manipulate me. That entire incident, over which I filed a State Board Complaint, caused me terror, a lost day of work, and almost 2000 dollars in uncovered ambulance, ER, and imaging charges. I would never, ever knowingly use HCA services again. I've read the other reviews, and they dovetail with mine. For-profit medicine is a bad idea; medicine influenced by private equity is atrocious. Finally, when this incident happened almost a year ago, I talked to your practice manager. She was condescending and a shill for your doctors. Again, I would never use your services again. I can't recommend that anyone use your services.

Was a patient at this office for over 20 years.
Called to make an appointment and was told because I’m on Medicare, they consider me a ‘new’ patient and don’t accept Medicare. I told them no problem, I’ll pay cash and was told that because I have Medicare, they won’t accept cash payments and refused to give me an appointment.
INFURIATING policy!

This place used to be great. Ever since HCA took over they are obviously more interested in money than medicine. They have writing on their office window congratulating their collections team, nothing about the care that is provided. I really like my doctor but he is so over booked that he can't spend more than 3 minutes with me. He runs through his routine so quickly I don't get a chance to ask questions. They have signs all over explaining what kind of questions you are allowed to ask and not ask. They wouldn't want to answer something that could be another billable visit. Patients are herded through the facility like cattle. Speaking of the facility, it is filthy and falling apart. The paint is chipped, the cabinets are falling apart the bathrooms are gross. This place exists to milk money from your insurance company, not to treat patients.

Dr. Trystan Crook googled my symptoms in front of me. Also, when I mentioned that another practitioner recommended an MRI with and without contrast, he stated he didn't know what kind of MRI to order - but proceeded to say that he would schedule one. I still haven't heard back about that MRI referral and its been two weeks. Thank God for the competence of the other practitioner because the MRI that THEY ordered for me discovered a brain tumor. Never would have been discovered if I waited on this doctor to get back to me. Honestly seems like malpractice, don't go here.

Terribly run care center. Patients sitting in the waiting area sneezing and coughing without masks on.No concept of checking in or signing in during walk-in hours. They make you wait until 5pm and then announce for people to just rush to the counter to check in like black Friday.Never visiting that place again even if I am really sick. Don't treat people like cattle!

I went to the after-hours urgent care clinic, and I was impressed by the professionalism and care of all staff involved. The nurses and Dr. Ferguson were extremely compassionate and dedicated to finding answers to help me feel better. I would recommend 10/10 to anyone in the area!
