I have been buying and selling antiques and collectibles for around 40 years. I have been shopping The Rare Find regularly for the last 30 years. It is a second generation antique business in a small town. Most of the inventory is purchased locally. Staying in business in a smaller market through buying from local residents is challenging, The Rare Find has been able to do this through being fair with the people he buys from, this building a good reputation with the community.
The Rare Find is truly a rare find these days. Most shops have a bunch of shop worn garage sale junk. Most shop owners sell the good items they find online for an immediate return. This is why it is so rare to find a dealer who doesn’t sell any items online at all. The owner, Mark, has a great eye for quality, as did his dad before him. He is fastidious about keeping his shop clean and tidy though it is literally packed with quality items.
A few people have mentioned that Mark followed them around the store, this is true he does. He always has done this, he does it so he can tell you the story of items as you look. I have been shopping and buying from Mark for many years, he knows me by name, he follows me around the store too. I appreciate it because I would miss things without him pointing out items he thinks I may be interested in. Additionally, Mark is attentive to detail. When you have this much inventory in this small of space it needs to be set up so everything is visible.
Mr. Clement, the traveling picker looking for bargains to sell to east and west coast high end dealers, goes on and on in a previous review about the prices at The Rare Find. The truth is that Mr. Clement is just upset he couldn’t come in and line his greedy pockets buying underpriced treasures from a Kansas hick. No, The Rare Find isn’t a thrift shop, thankfully, it is high quality antiques at reasonable retail prices.
Overall The Rare Find is among the last of the great local antique stores. If you are a collector or enthusiast treat yourself to a visit to The Rare Find. Say hey to Mark and Tank for me! The early horse weathervane with zinc head and the Black Forest Bear are my most recent purchases at The Rare Find, good luck finding this kind of quality anywhere else in the area.

Won’t let anyone under the age of 25 into the store it seems, refuses to sell anything. He will tell you “i’ve got to go” or “now’s not a good time” if you come in. unfortunate because there are cool things but dude is just a hoarder

Amazing store!!! True antiques, something for everyone! The owner is one of the nicest and most approachable people I've ever met! He'll make you a deal on bundles! If you like dishes and pottery - this store is dangerous! Huge selection and in great shape! This is definitely on our list of places to stop when we are back in town.

We stopped into the shop today. We won't be returning. To qualify, we're in the antiques business! We love stopping other shops and we buy all the time. For ourselves and to resell to our dealers in NY and CA. I'm giving this shop one star because he has a lot of nice items. High end items. HOWEVER there is a reason he has a shop full of nice items. He doesn't sell them. The prices are astronomical. Again, we sell antiques for a living so we know the market. Often I would reach out to pick up an item and he would yell "that's $600!" You'll notice the other reviews talk about how nice the stuff is, but they never mention buying anything! This isn't a store for buying. We were friendly and made small talk but then as I went further and further to the back of the store I noticed he was hovering. He thought I was going to steal something and followed me all around the store. Finally it got to me so much we just left and I told him politely I didn't appreciate being followed around the store. Also, he wasn't wearing a mask even though McPherson requires them and my wife and I were both wearing them. he also insisted on talking to me very close. I felt like he was doing it on purpose. We will never go into this store again and wouldn't recommend it.

What a wonderful place to browse and to shop. I could take all day to go through this quaint store. So much nostalgia, it has many times taken me back to my childhood. The are many unique and rare antiques available. Mark, the owner, knows his business very well and can answer any questions you may have. He is a very impressionable, laid back person. Even when he us really busy, he still takes time for you.
