“I have been buying and selling antiques and collectibles for around 40 years. I have been shopping The Rare Find regularly for the last 30 years. It is a second generation antique business in a small town. Most of the inventory is purchased locally. Staying in business in a smaller market through buying from local residents is challenging, The Rare Find has been able to do this through being fair with the people he buys from, this building a good reputation with the community.
The Rare Find is truly a rare find these days. Most shops have a bunch of shop worn garage sale junk. Most shop owners sell the good items they find online for an immediate return. This is why it is so rare to find a dealer who doesn’t sell any items online at all. The owner, Mark, has a great eye for quality, as did his dad before him. He is fastidious about keeping his shop clean and tidy though it is literally packed with quality items.
A few people have mentioned that Mark followed them around the store, this is true he does. He always has done this, he does it so he can tell you the story of items as you look. I have been shopping and buying from Mark for many years, he knows me by name, he follows me around the store too. I appreciate it because I would miss things without him pointing out items he thinks I may be interested in. Additionally, Mark is attentive to detail. When you have this much inventory in this small of space it needs to be set up so everything is visible.
Mr. Clement, the traveling picker looking for bargains to sell to east and west coast high end dealers, goes on and on in a previous review about the prices at The Rare Find. The truth is that Mr. Clement is just upset he couldn’t come in and line his greedy pockets buying underpriced treasures from a Kansas hick. No, The Rare Find isn’t a thrift shop, thankfully, it is high quality antiques at reasonable retail prices.
Overall The Rare Find is among the last of the great local antique stores. If you are a collector or enthusiast treat yourself to a visit to The Rare Find. Say hey to Mark and Tank for me! The early horse weathervane with zinc head and the Black Forest Bear are my most recent purchases at The Rare Find, good luck finding this kind of quality anywhere else in the area.”
“I had so much fun walking around. It's a maze of antiques, and every turn reveals even more! The prices were pretty reasonable, and some of their goods were very unique.”
