The Grassroots Art Center in Lucas is a not-for-profit organization that educates, exhibits, documents, and preserves grassroots and folk art from the Midwest. This art is created by self-taught individuals, often using recycled items to build amazing and out-of-this-world environments. A visit is highly recommended for anyone with an appreciation for the creative spirit. The guided tour is excellent and well worth it, as the stories behind the creations are as fascinating and critical as the art itself. The experience is fun and includes a scavenger hunt. The staff is known for being super hospitable, eager to help, and incredible. Visitors find the artists and folk in Lucas to be the realest and most amazing.
We try to get over to the Grassroots Art Center whenever we make the trip back to Kansas. It's always a valuable experience, for the unique art, the local history, and the charming little gift shop. Well worth a significant drive out of your way!

Such a neat place, and a great ending spot for the scavenger hunt! We didn’t do the paid ticket, but chatted with the front desk lady for a while, and collected our surprise for finishing the scavenger hunt.

A really well-curated space celebrating self-taught artists from Kansas and elsewhere.
