This non-for-profit exotic bird rescue organization is not a breeder or a bird mill, rather a rescue center for those who find after buying a bird that it is not for them or rehoming birds who's forever home no longer works out due to life changes or death of the owners. They have a network of members who foster the birds in their own homes until adoptions can be set up, or house the birds at their rescue center. One of their main goals is educating the public on exotic bird ownership, and their adoption process though somewhat longer and more intensive than just buying a bird at a pet shop is aimed at preparing the owners for the challenges and knowledge needed for becoming a forever home to an exotic bird. We have adopted three now through Beak and Wings and would challenge anyone making a negative comment about the organization or the process to adopt to fully find out about the organization before criticizing them blindly.

A wonderful group of people who are dedicated to the rescue, fostering and the finding of good homes for birds in need. If you can, please donate to their cause.

Great place to volunteer and get to know some birds. If you are looking to adopt, their website is easy to navigate. I just wish they were open more often! We love visiting on the weekends though!

I couldn't say enough good things about this rescue. The facility is always clean and well kept, the people that work here care so much about the birds and what they do, it is a very close knit organization and they treat you like family when you choose to get involved. They are awesome as far as providing education for the general public on parrot care, and I love going to the events they do. An absolute wonderful place to both adopt and bring in your babies if you can no longer provide for them.

We adopted our first bird from Beak n Wings and became members! Our experience has been wonderful! They are a wealth of information with many long time members who are full of knowledge and willing to help us that are new to birds!

Marcy was so patient and helpful in answering our beginner's questions. We came home with a beautiful parakeet and both daughter and bird are doing great!

I highly recommend Beak n Wings parrot rescue! We just adopted from them and the whole process was very pleasant. I love that you take a Bird 101 course. The volunteer who did our home-visit was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. When we first met our bird, we actually met with 3 different birds in one day and the volunteers/foster parents were all very welcoming and helpful. We are still in contact with the foster parent of our adopted parrot and she has helped us so much with transitioning the bird into our home. When first contacting them keep in mind that they are volunteer run, if you don't hear back right away.

No one here responds to any contact. I wanted to adopt and/or foster.. They have a "membership" and you have to be a member for a certain amount of time before you can foster. Eight months ago I paid the fee and sent in a membership app but never got any kind of confirmation that it was received, despite reaching out multiple times. They also have a required bird care class you have to take.. I did finally manage to get invited to the class after begging for multiple months for an invite, but when I turned in my adoption application, confirmation of the class, and my "test" from the class.. I again never received any confirmation whatsoever. I was very serious about wanting to support the rescue, but apparently they don't want or need any adopters/new foster homes. :(I was not the only person who had trouble scoring an invite to their class either.. multiple emails and facebook posts/messages were required.Sadly I'm having a similar experience with Burge, despite already being a veterinary patron there. I don't know what is up with adoptions in KC.. I hope all the birds are finding great homes even though they've apparently decided mine is not good enough even without talking to me.

If you have a bird and need grooming this is the place to go. Very quaint with lots of birds on display for adoption. My vet wanted $100 to clip his wings nails and Beak. This place only charges $30 for all and any advice is free try finding that somewhere else:-)
