I have no words other than I will never apply at village square apartments, this management seems like a money hogging business. That is just my opinion, regardless of the rules, it's my opinion on most of the apartments in Lawrence, I understand your just doing your job Jessica there's no need to apologize, I'm just being honest here Lawrence itself has gone down from being a fun and affordable place to live at. There are better avenues for me personally. As for the 1 star review, that was my experience.

Posted this on their Mccullough Development Inc. Yelp page and don't have the energy to write about them yet again to warn people. So here it is, "just don't... I have been trying to warn anyone for about a year now and I am exhausted and don't know how to say how awful and detrimental everyone's health is that walks into any building this company has "luck" of owning. Stay away because they will cause you physical pain with the extreme amount of stress they cause because of their self interest and self preservation or they will cause pain from the mold issue they have in, what now seems to be, every apartment. My slogan for them is, "if you don't want a hospital bill to pay, stay the hell away." They'll shorten your life by decades without a care in their goddam world. Money is their focus and you don't have enough to concern the city with these complaints.

Maybe the new management will improve this place, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I lived here for a long time (over 10 years) and am about to move out. When I moved in my apartment was okay, it's an old building so things go wrong, but it wasn't in terrible repair. Management was terrible at communicating from the start. Maintenance is not done in a timely fashion and many times has to be redone b/c such a shoddy job was done the first time. The last straw was the recent (2021 to spring 2022) office manager who was just over the top nasty from the start no matter what you were trying to say to him. I can see by other recent reviews that I am not the only one who had this experience. In addition to being incredibly rude, he was wrong about tenants rights, to the point that I found an attorney to help me take legal action against Village Square to get him to stop forcing his incorrect interpretation on me. This particular individual seems to be gone now so I didn't follow through, but I don't want to live in a place where the parent company hires someone who's so blatantly unqualified for their job. Recently a new regional manager has appeared. He's definitely friendly and personable, but I haven't seen anything actually improve yet, so who knows if he'll be better in the long run. Don't live here.

On December 18th 2021 I went into the office to inquire on the renewal process and they guy I believe his name was Trevor told me I had to give them a 60 day notice if was planning to leave and that I would need to let him know by march 1st. Fast forward to 2/3 and there’s a note left on my door for the world to see that says that I have to be out the unit by 2/28 less then 30 days notice because they promised my unit to a family for 3/15. I had less then a month notice to find a new place to move my family. I left the unit better then what it was when I moved in but today I received call that I’m not getting my deposit back due to damage done to the unit but no one could tell what was damaged. This is terrible place to live and is beyond poorly managed. If you can find somewhere else to live do so! 0/10 recommend. 1 star rating is too high.

Denni clearly does not live here lived here for a long time and this new management will only use scare tactics and I actually hate my life right now cause I live here. UPDATE!!!!!!! They have ridden of the landlord who made me sick, because of how mean they where so. I am updating my review to 4 stars. I have met the new guy that is managing this complex now and he is so sweet and nice and actually treats us like a human being unlike we are dogs so thank you. So now I do encourage to come live here beacuse I have lived here for 6 years and to be honest it’s not that bad. We started are life here and have awesome memories we came here with nothing and every one beside the guy they have finally gotten rid of helped us so much. so thank you I have the weight of that stress and being scared is gone. To summarize I would recommend living here now. Thank you village square for putting these amazing family’s that live here first before mean people.

This is a review of 6 years living here. In the 5 years I would of always suggested to live here to all my friends but now NO WAY. In a few months when my lease is up will post everything but tell than I can't say much cause...ya will not say any more due to fear of retaliation when lease is up will share every thing so believe me I lived here along time and this new management tell there gone do not come here please for your safety and sanity. If any thing changes will update review.

You’ll lose more than your money when you move in here. Maintenance doesn’t care, will walk in your apartment and not even look at issues you’ve reported. They will say, “it’s just dust,” when you have tested positive for mold. Management is somehow worse. They will ignore emails and calls, never send any to you as well. Then they come banging on your door and lie about maintenance requests, habitability, and reasons for inspection so they can find ways to evict you even when you have documentation of everything and have been trying to report mold issues for half a year with an E.R. visit for mold indications in your lungs straight a E.R. Physician’s documented lab result.Don’t even bother trying to get the city for help, they won’t do anything, probably due to the fact that MDI pays property taxes more than you do.Edit: I’ve contacted that number many times and all I got was ignored on a mold infestation, an eviction notice, and a hospital bill. There’s nothing you could do for me in the last 8 months, what’s going to change now?

Absolutely awful service. They do not care about your health, safety, or wellbeing. On April 28th, I came home about 4pm to find that the kitchen and my bedroom (south bedroom) had flooded due to rain. To put it into perspective, the maintenance guy said that 70% of my room had been flooded and I had to move all of personal belongings into the living room (bed, bed frame, nightstand, dresser, etc.). The management refused to give me a hotel room as they still deemed the apartment livable. My bedroom was not livable? It had a de-humidifier and two damp-raids in it and I was not allowed to put my bed back in the room because the floor was still soaked. They deemed the apartment still livable because not EVERY room was flooded. At this point we had not checked my roommate's bedroom. His bedroom was also flooded which now made two bedrooms unlivable but yet we still were denied a hotel room. The decision to deny us a hotel room came from the property supervisor, however, I was told of the decision from the office worker. The office worker claimed that her hands were tied and that I would have to talk to the supervisor in order to advocate for myself. I demanded that I be allowed to talk to the supervisor, and the office worker said that she would give her my contact information. Well it's been 16 hours and I am still waiting on that call. I never got a hotel room, my room is still flooded, and I spent last night on my friend's couch. They have not respected me, my roommate, our time, and our wellbeing. Do not rent from them, it is not worth it.
