I like shopping at co-ops to get real food and my money goes towards to a store that's not a corporation. I decided to take a drive to Lawrence, KS to shop here and check it out for the first time.The store has a decent selection of items. It was clean and well organized and the people were friendly. It's nice to go into a place like this - there's a reason there's a "People of Walmart" website and not one for "The People of Co-ops".As is the case, you will pay a bit more in smaller stores because the big players can buy so much they get deals. I found that some of the prices today were not that much different than the "Big Food" chains.I don't know how this one operates but I know the Co-op I used to shop in Washington had a list of prohibited ingredients in products on the shelves and that was a big relief to know they are looking out for us on the purchasing side. I did recognize some of the same products grom that store in this one. That's good to see but...I will say I was quite surprised to see some "Always Save" and "Best Choice" products on the shelves and in the freezer. I don't understand WHY they had these things on the shelves as I thought they only carried good products in a co-op. This was a definite WITAF moment and it makes me wonder how some of the other products are.I don't know how much I'll be spending there in the future. If I want high prices and generic food I can go to the big grocery store chains.

Excellent for groceries! Produce section is phenomenal! Cheese selection is great! I also feel the Merc's meat department is excellent. Very fresh and appealing. I particularly like the Bulk Department that is extensive! All the normal bulk items available, but also herbs and teas. I regularly purchase items from the Health Department. Service and advice is readily available. In addition you will find plants, books, and handmade items. Love the MERC!

I like The Merc coop but On October 29th I purchased a whole VESECKY Family Farms chicken from the Merc Coop grocery store. The inside of the chicken was poorly cleaned. I cleaned, washed the chicken and fried it. Well, I couldn't eat it. I think it was a dead or sick chicken. They may have taken it out of the freezer and kept it in the refrigerator longer than usual to defrost it.

I have been a member since 1982. The customer service seems to get worse as the years pass. I am grateful for the other health food stores in town.November 17, 2023 update.5 years ago i wrote the above comment. In my opinion, customer service has not improved at the Merc and in my opinion, things are getting much worse. I did my second biweekly shopping a few minutes ago. The lines were empty, and few people in the store at 1:00 on a Sunday. Sad to see. I approached the young, bule-haired tattooed person with a nose ring, and I said a pleasant hello. Nothing. No response.She / them/ ?? never bothered to even look at me. As a matter of obvious fact, their demeanor gave a distant vibe of distain and bother. I did not expect this. Ok then. My over-priced organic groceries were rung up and I happily bagged my items because she /them was making no effort to do it. Ok. Now I ran the card but forgot I needed a bit of cash. I looked at the device for a second and decided wrongly to ask the angry little blue haired darling, how do I go back to get cash? Still looking at cash register and not me, "I don't know" came the immediate answer. Easy enough, I figured it out.She never said Thank You. She never asked for my owner's number, I had to mention that on my own. She didn't offer a receipt. And she never asked if I wanted to Round Up, which I am generally happy to do. This was yet another unpleasant shopping experience at my favorite store in Lawrence.Merc you need to get better. Like the world we live in, this is unsustainable.

just like walmart with self-checkout, but the employees are more snippy and entitled. we've gone there for 15 years but are finished. The folks are walmart and sprouts are a lot more laid back. if you're looking for fresh produce you want to see checkers. also, 2.89$ for a small drip brew coffee.

We shop here for the fresh fish that comes in twice a week. Also like options for eggs from local, free range chickens. They have a great bulk buying section with everything from rice to spices and many many others.

My favorite grocery store! Can definitely be a little pricey, but gives you the ability to try a lot of things that are otherwise only available online or at farmer's markets. Plus, everything is extremely transparent on what ingredients are used. For families with
dietary restrictions: THIS IS THE PLACE TO SHOPStaff have always been helpful when needed, and are lovely to my kiddos. The tiny carts are a bit of a hazard for my little ones, but they sure do love them lolAlso, kids under 12 get a piece of fruit! So if you have little ones who become very agitated in stores like I do, there's a healthy and easily available distraction for them right at the front doors. I love this place, we come here all the time. Really a gem in the community!

Quality, healthy and delicious items sold here. Prices are very reasonable for this level of food, beverages and take home items. The cookies are some of the best I've had! Excellent place to shop!
