Great customer service. Asked for a product and in a week they had it stocked. Clean and organized facility.

i will never understand why, as a verifiable 22 year old, i'm not allowed to use my state issued VERTICAL ID TO PURCHASE WINE. the cashier was rude as well and i think this business should close immediately. i suggest all of you to purchase from alvin's wine and spirits because they had much better service.

I recently had the displeasure of finding my way into Roy’s wine and spirits on my 21st birthday. I am a younger looking individual, and I instantly noticed that I was being heavily watched by one of the workers at the register. With rampant underage drinking in Lawrence, I do understand this as a reasonable concern (nobody wants to lose a liquor license). However, as I approached the counter accompanied by my mother, I handed out my previous ID where I was promptly told that they do not take any vertical form of identification. This was not an issue as I had previously visited the dmv and obtained a new, valid paper ID receipt showing that I am 21. I hand the man working at the counter the second one, and he asks to see the vertical ID again to compare the two, to which I obliged. He then informed me that “to be safe,” store policy dictates you must wait one day after your birthday “just to be sure.”I understand businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone, however, waiting a day will not change the fact that I am 21, and therefore old enough to purchase alcohol. Regardless of how I felt, I understand store policy. As previously stated, I was with my mother who is obviously of age, the counter worker even acknowledged this fact. She then goes to buy the alcohol, in which he also refused to sell to her. I understand being cautious, but at this point it started to feel ridiculous. Jumping through that many hoops for a simple tall boy was not worth it. I do not blame counter workers for enforcing the rules management puts in place, but this ordeal left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not be returning to this establishment ever. Luckily for me there is plenty of competition in Lawrence that will accept my money.

Good selection but horrible store policies. Will only take ID if it's horizontal no matter when the birthdate was. It was my 21st birthday 2 months ago and I don't have a horizontal ID cause mine is STILL LEGAL... and they refused to take it. Ridiculous. They are just denying my money at this point.

The employees are always friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable. They have things I've never seen at other outlets like the biggest selection of hard seltzer water. Don't be limited to the small selection at the supermarket.

I've been coming here since I moved to Lawrence, super friendly and helpful staff, great wine, and spirits section, beer selection is moderate but has a good range.

Went into Roy’s in the afternoon to stock up on some cold ones for a watch party. Grabbed a 30 rack and some pink whitney from the shelf, as I’ve done plenty of times before, and brought it up to the counter. The gal helping me seemed kind enough, and she asked if she could see my ID. I pulled it out, forked it over, and she begins to explain to me that Roy’s has a “store policy” that doesn’t allow them to sell alcohol if someone’s ID is vertical. Now, my ID is 100% valid and it’s not like it’s written in a foreign language. How hard is it to use your eyes to verify my DOB? Hell, even scan the dang thing if you would feel so inclined (putting blame more on management than the employee here). And to make it worse, I’ve been buying alcohol here for a while. Why has this never been brought to my attention prior? Either this gal that was helping me was lying, which is pretty lousy, or Roy’s actually does have a policy in place that’s equally as trash. So I said “okay,” took my ID back, and went over to cork and barrel where I was served without any issues. I will continue to take my vertical, 100% valid, out-of-state ID to all the bars, restaurants, and other liquor stores in Lawrence because they use their eyes and brains. I’m sure cork and barrel appreciates all the work you guys do to direct business towards them.
