I'm not a fish expert at all but this place seems leaps and bounds better than most if not all other places in the area. The prices are GREAT, even better than big box stores, which is a massive plus. A wide variety of freshwater fish, plants, and supplies, at very competitive prices. All employees have been nothing but great every time I've been. Very helpful, and tanks seem very clean. The only drawback is that there is a tank of very swollen female bettas with nipped fins, which may be a hospital sorority tank or something. Definitely worth a visit!

I love what this local pet store stands for and the way they run their business. These people really do care about these animals at the shop and they are all very well cared for. Past that, Pet World carries the cat litter that my cats like (sustainably yours, large grain) and it's pretty much always in stock and available. Their cat treat/toy/accessories stock is always great too!

I love this place! It can be difficult to find good fish, and it can be difficult to find a variety of fish, and again even harder to find knowledgeable proprietors. Pet World has them all in spades and more. Admittedly I don’t go too far past the fish sections but the store is large and has lots of pet supplies. As far as my experience I will always be willing to drive the hour and a half to shop here. I’m kicking myself for not getting the employee’s name but everyone of them was friendly and helpful, and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. I couldn’t recommend Pet World more!

I've recently gotten in to aquarium keeping. I drive over from Topeka and every time I come in here I get fantastic assistance from knowledgeable aquatic staff. Not only do they have an amazing selection of hard-to-find species, all of the tanks are clean and well-kept.In particular I'm mostly in to nano fish and shrimp, and the tanks they keep them in are fantastic. Small tanks but with lots of plants, crystal clean water, and good circulation. Very good survival rate when taking fish home, and they always offer to add oxygen to the bags since I have to drive back to Topeka. 1000x better than chain-store shopping.

Had my daughter’s 6th birthday here and what a wonderful experience! Cameron was super helpful and his animal presentation was so fun and informative! He went above and beyond to make the party amazing! The animals here are very well taken care of and loved as well. Can’t rate this business or Cameron highly enough!

You won't find a store with in 200 miles more dedicated to get you the supplies required to setup your pets. I have fish, reptiles, amphibians, and dogs. All provided with top level nutrition and natural environments. 100% recommend.

My son had fun feeding the turtles, and the fish. He got to hold a hamster and had a lot of fun! We went there to buy crickets and stayed much longer. The associate helping us was so nice and patient. I wish I had caught her name.

Everyone was so kind and helpful!!! I love the way the store looks!!! Other pet stores are pretty bland. Not this place. It is what other pet stores imagine their stores after. Again the staff was amazing and super kind!!! My wife and I drove from Parkville just to visit this store. It will not be the last time we come for a visit.

Coolest aquarium/pet store I’ve ever been too, came from out of state, they have literally everything and more, a bunch of aquarium supplies normally I can only find online, they had all the things I have been looking for forever, staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, you can tell they really care for their animals and know their needs. Spent about an hour and a half just taking in how awesome their set ups were. Bonus appreciation for how they sell established filter media for people to get their tanks cycling faster :)

I've not gone here and ever had a bad experience. In fact, a couple of times the staff knocked out of the park. I am very impressed.Also, as far as pet selection goes, this is probably of the greatest variety of any pet store I've ever been to.On top of that, it's not ratty, dirty, or pathetic in the conditions in which the lovely little creatures are kept.Some of the fish tanks have algae, but they're by no means dirty from what I've seen. I won't hold that against them.My expectations of any pet store that has birds is very high. Probably unreasonably high. I've never really seen a pet store that I would say is great for birds. But Pet World comes the closest. They even work with some of their parrots to do tricks and be basically "handle-able" by a new pet owner. This is heads and shoulders above some other exotic pet stores.I can't say anything about the education they give a pet owner prior to buying the new companion as I've never bought a pet from them. For example, I would expect a great deal of explanation about parrot ownership before the sale is even made. Owning parrots is not something to be taken lightly, the potential buyer needs to know how involved bird ownership is if the bird is to be properly cared for and not eventually given over to adoption.I hope that they do their diligence in making sure this scenario doesn't happen. But I can't say.From what I know of the place, they are worth the 5 stars I gave them. If I see anything to the contrary I will update this review. I am relatively passionate about keeping animals in general in captivity and being responsible about doing so. Rest assured, if you've read this far, my statements are current as to my knowledge.

Nothing but amazing things to say about Pet World. I have been coming here since I was a young child and my children have now grown up visiting frequently.They are so knowledgeable about all types of pets, and the staff are always so kind and willing to help. The owners are very active in the community, hosting a ton of activities for kids. The prices are a little higher than chain stores but it is so worth it. It’s the best pet store!!

This is for sure the best pet store in the Kansas City area. The reason is the staff. They are always so knowledgeable. You can tell they love working there. They are good at informing you about your pet and make sure you leave with the correct supplies needed. Worth the drive to Lawrence.

Pet World is an amazing pet store!! The Staff are all knowledgeable and friendly, they are always ready to help. The store itself is well stocked and prices are reasonable. The animals are very well taken care of, and you can pet/hold a lot of them. They have an amazing reward program. I would highly recommend this store to anyone, if you have yet to see it you should stop by sometimes you won't be disappointed!!Attached is a photo from a few years ago at Pet World Customer appreciation Weekend.

This pet store is absolutely above and beyond any other. It is a staple within the Lawrence community. Amazing humans run this place; incredibly well taken care of animals, as well as truly knowledgeable and remarkable staff.My children and I LOVE going to this place just to walk around and check everything out.......Pet World came to my classroom today!!!They put on an amazing display. I was impressed with how the two presenters interacted with all the kids. The information they provided, as well as the overall enjoyment they had for what they were doing.My favorite was the giant gecko, I can't remember the whole name, but it was so cool. You would think that it's skin would feel rough, but it was so soft. It was like touching kinetic sand.We had a floppy eared bunny rabbit, a guinea pig, a tiny bearded dragon. A pretty big ball python, a gorgeous tortoise, a huge hamster, and the macaw Phoenix who is a sassy devil.It was truly a fantastic way to wrap up our "pets" unit.Our class had a fantastic time. Highly recommend any teacher reaching out to Pet World to have an introduction to different animals.

My first time ever in Petworld and they have some of the coolest things for your fur babies, all pets as a matter of fact! Love how organized and easy it was to find things! The customer service was stellar and was even able to sign up for discounts! Will be back!
