First time doing business with this shop. Quoted 12,000 for a 2000 engine. Was told after towing my car there that they do not use used engines and they would only rebuilt my engine. I knew the engine was bad and told the that prior to bringing it and that my intention was to replace it with a used engine. When I brought this up I was told to pay my bill and come tow my car out of there. Worst service ever, I did not need to pay $300 in tow fees plus $250.00 to be told my engine was bad when I brought it there to have the engine replaced. I would not recommend them as they are rude and unprofessional.

They billed me $475 for just 3 hours of work. Perhaps it's time to consider leaving graduate school behind and start an apprenticeship at an auto center.

Don’s auto shop go above and beyond to help their customers. I have a business vehicle and two personal vehicle I bring to this mom & pop shop for service and they are so extremely friendly honest and reliable. Technician Mike (I believe that’s his name) went far above his job duty and called to find out if my vehicle was under warranty for an extensive repair. These guys are just the best. 10/10 stars.

I don't recommend this shop to anyone, especially a single woman who doesn't know a lot about cars and is simply looking for a mechanic she can trust. I called them about looking at my car. This was my first (and last) time going to this shop. I was told I needed an appointment. I dropped my car off the afternoon before my appointment. The next day when 2 pm rolled around and I hadn't heard from anyone, I called to check in. They had been busy and had just started looking at my car, which was fine. I just wanted them to know that I had a doctor's appointment the next morning and needed to pick up my car before they closed. Shortly after, I received a call from the owner Mike. He wasn't at all friendly but he was apologetic about looking at my car so late in the day. I guess he assumed I could leave my car there another day, without discussing it with me. In a manner that I can only call "customer-unfriendly," he started going over everything with me and as I was asking questions, he kept interrupting me and making assumptions on what I was asking instead of listening and letting me speak. He did this twice and I patiently waited as he went on an on about something I wasn't even asking about. Both times his assumptions were wrong and had nothing to do with my questions. He was rude, condescending, and impatient, and when I asked him to please let me speak, he told me he was busy and shut me down. I still have unanswered questions. When I went to pick up my car, I tried to tell him how his bad treatment of me made me feel and I tried to explain how difficult it is to be single and not know a lot about cars and to have to put your trust in people. Instead of showing kindness and compassion and listening to me, a customer, he was completely dismissive and talked over me, again, and even made a hurry up motion with his hand when I was speaking. I'm still in shock by what I just experienced - that a business owner would be so blatantly rude and treat a customer so badly for merely having questions. Fortunately, there are other auto shops in Lawrence where the employees, and especially the owner, will treat customers with kindness and make them feel valued. I only went to this place because it was close to home and I could walk there. Never again. I'd like to note that the receptionist/office manager, Carol, was very nice.
I won't go into the information I received from Mike about what repairs he said my car needs but he asked me about things that had already been replaced recently saying he couldn't tell if they were replaced, like the timing belt, because there was no sticker left by the previous mechanic. I can't speak to whether Mike is an honest mechanic but if you can be that rude to a customer, you've lost my trust.
Always read reviews. I wish I had. There are reviews from some other folks that have experienced the nightmare that is Mike. Live and learn.

I had gotten my car fixed at Dan's auto in 2022 and I was 21 years old. For reference, I do not know much about cars, and I feel as though I was taken advantage of for being a young uneducated woman.
I have a 2010 mercury, Milan . I went to get my tire rod replaced in 2022 because of annoying squeak.
The tire rod was replaced. Conveniently the next day after getting the car fixed the gears on my vehicle had shifted upwards which restricted me from placing my car all the way into park. Since the car was not in park all of the way it didn't allow me to take out the keys out of the ignition.
I had notified an employee at Dons auto about the problem. They told me basically that they had nothing to do with the new problem and if I wanted to have it look at it they would pay for the towing but I would have to pay for the service. But if it they didn't cause it I would have to pay for the tow and for the inspection.
The customer service was very rude, short with me and not understanding at all. I didn't not end up getting my car towed because I felt as though they would place the blame on me therefore more money out of my pocket.
The occurrence of the issue was conveniently right after I had gone to Don's auto.
This issue still brothers me, my car is still broken and that is why I decided to make this post. Also to help other young woman from being taken advantage of.
I will not be going here again.
