Checkers used to be a good place to shop, but not anymore. Prices are much higher than other places and their produce selection has declined in both quality and variety. Expect to pay at least 10% more compared to Aldi or other stores. They used to have an international foods section at the front of the store, but that’s no longer there, having been replaced with cheap garbage snacks. As if that weren’t enough, they now charge for bags at .10 a piece, which also get taxed.

Down fall is you have to bag your own grocery bags. No plastic.

I live about 40 miles from Checkers, but like go stop in when in the area visiting family, to get the homemade torilllas. The tortillas are SO good. I asked a manager where they were, the stand was missing. He asked the girl in the back, if they had any. She stated they were out and going to be making more soon. The manager left the area, and the lady from the bakery asked how long I was going to be in the store. I said awhile. She told me if I gave her 10 minutes, she was heat up the press and make some for me, but they will be warm in the bag, I told her that did not bother me. She also said she would find me in the store to give them to me. I walked around for awhile and headed back, where she gave me the tortillas and I thanked her so much. She went the extra mile and that is rare nowadays, I was so impressed. Love checkers and the lady from the bakery!!

Spent 30 minutes looking for chestnuts or an employee to help me find them, finally gave up and called the store to ask where they are located and was hung up on. I went to the self checkout to buy a drink and ask the employee there, she was very rude and went "you just called didn't you? They're way over there" and seemed bothered that we had asked and tried to call, I went to the area where she pointed (i had just been here for 20 minutes) and there weren't any chestnuts. Will be going to The Merc for all local and organic needs from now on since the layout of the store isn't made to trap customers.

I loved checkers since I was a kid but one very VERY big thing is missing and that's the entire wall of Shasta you could mix and match 24 for 5 dollars this was a big deal to me growing up and to see it gone is heartbreaking not to mention the price of the Shasta soda machine has gone up 10 cents I wouldn't say I'm angry just very disappointed

They recently installed 4 self-checkout registers. They're still very buggy. They always lock up and say "unexpected item in bagging area" and won't let you proceed until an employee unlocks the system. It happens EVERY FREAKING TIME. Fix it already. Otherwise it's a great store.

Really great place to shop for groceries! Meat selection is phenomenal and the prices are good. Their meat sales are awesome. The produce section was very fresh and a wide variety. They have a good selection of products. We'll be back for more!

Checkers is the place to go for great cuts iof meat and beautiful produce. Some great deals at times at entrance. Some prices are way too high for all your groceries.

Checkers is second cheapest from my experience in all of Lawrence. Quality food, tons of bulk options. Great for small restaurants and large families.

Better than Walmart. They have can Spanish rice, JJ's bakery pie assortment and several cashier's available that were so pretty ?.

Love the selection. But the employees need to learn how to work in a professional setting. To many times have I been in and the employees are either rude or unhelpful. Just in the check out line today I got to hear two employees talking about how one of their coworkers is unhelpful and is, to quote, “a b****** Not a great look.

A cost effective alternative to the major retail grocery stores in town. On top of that it is an extremely pleasant place to shop.

I love the produce selections in particular. Some items have many choices; others are limited. Prices beat most other stores in town. I was able to get most of the items on my list. Many check-out lanes were open. I don't mind bagging my own groceries for the cost-saving trade-off.
