To think of the work and the engineering marvel these men had to do to mine a mineral we all take for granted is baffling. You would be over 600 feet underground, through a dark elevator shaft much like the workers would have been. There are a few items that have been left behind from the miners that the museum has left untouched. You would be on a a small cart train and long golf carts going through a large portion of the mine. The persons were friendly, the person on the cart and golf cart were informative. Don't want to miss it, if you are near. Word of advice, this is not for those who are cluster phobic. Also, if you are going in the winter it is likely warmer in the mine.

We had so much fun at Strataca! We had a great experience and can’t believe everything we learned. Even the kids (4 & 7) enjoyed it. Our dark ride tour guide Carey was really funny and entertaining. They don’t really have a great solution for the hard hats not fitting the kiddos. We tried the straps they gave us, but it still didn’t quite work. But everything was great, and I’d recommend this place to everyone.

My family had so much fun at Strataca! It was a great experience. Buy tickets in advance. We showed up when they opened at 1:00 and missed the window to go down at that time and for the 1:20. We got the 1:40 but didn't mind waiting 40 minutes.I also want to add that we had a great experience with the staff. We visited on 7/30/23. From ticket sales to taking us down to the ride conductors, all the staff members were kind and friendly and engaging.

Great experience. It’s, for the most part a self guided tour in an active salt mine (away from the actual mining and miners) that has a wealth of fascinating information. There are also two rides, the train and dark tour where you ride in little cars pulled by a vehicle that takes you deeper into the mine. The driver regales you with stories, anecdotes and information. You also stop and are allowed to get your own piece of salt. Lastly, there is a display explaining about the old movies and documents stored in the mine. Highly recommended place. It takes roughly two hours.

We had a blast! The staff were all super friendly and passionate, you could feel how much they love their job. It was such a great experience and we learned so much! We did all 3 rides, train ride, dark ride, and safari ride. Would recommend doing all the rides. Learned something new each ride.

It's so fun and interesting. Your ticket is a self-guided tour plus a train and tram ride.

Who knew??! Wife and I have lived in Hutch for the past 20 years. We drive by Strataca on a regular basis. I was thinking you can look around at pictures of days gone past, but that's about it. Wrong! Strataca is nothing like you imagine. It's an hour long sight seeing tour complete with exhibits and entertainment. 5 or so years ago we went because my Brother wanted to see it. We weren't very excited about the prospect, but we agreed. And we're so glad that we did. We will go back. We give Strataca 5 big stars for a great experience!

This place is so cool! We went on the safari for an hour ride and it was so interesting to hear about all of the history down in the mjnes. Kids liked that we were able to pick our own salt rocks also. Would definitely recommend! Fun for all ages!

THIS. WAS. ONE. OF. THE. BEST. THINGS. I'VE. EVER. DONE. If you get the opportunity, spend the money and come check out this salt mine. I mean, it's even still a working salt mine. You don't actually get to see the working part of the mine but TBH the old section we do get to see is probably more interesting because it's like a time capsule, literally. The salt preserves everything that isn't metal down there. And you do get to interact with miners. They have shift change at 3PM, meaning you can't have access to the hoist to leave until they're done about 45-60 min later. Warning though, they take the "be there 15 min before your scheduled time," VERY seriously. In fact, I think the person who checked us in punished us for being 5 minutes over the scheduled time. We were supposed to be there at noon, meaning 1145AM. We got there at 1205. Now, this isn't me. I'm normally early to everything but stuff kept happening and we ended up being late. Because of this, the extra tour we bought, Salt Safari, had to be rescheduled to 230PM from 1PM! I couldn't understand why but they guy would not budge, so I gave up. Other Safari people were getting off their tram at 1245 and were being told they could now visit the rest of the museum and take their other tours, which pissed me off because that could have been us at 1PM. BS! I watched the 1PM people load, we could have gone with them. But, because we had such a long wait we immersed ourselves in every exhibit and every video to watch and we only had maybe 15 minutes of down boring time. Luckily, they have WiFi. But 4 hours here is a bit much and kind of ruined the rest of our day.I'd highly recommend the Salt Safari if you want to see the really cool stuff. It was a bit repetitive because the Dark Tour has some of the same info but the Safari really takes you inside and you can see walls that haven't been touched since 1956. Seeing the artifacts, how mining has changed over the years and understanding the Earth's layers was just fun. Everyone who works here is super informative and they pay attention to you. The supervisor walked right up to us and was like "you guys are ready for the hoist" points at another couple and is like "your train ride is ready" and I'm how the heck did she know that??? They're watching you. TL;DR This mine is a fun way to spend the afternoon. You'll learn a lot and see a lot of cool things that you wouldn't normally in real life.

Who knew salt could be so interesting? I honestly went primarily because I wanted to see the movie memorabilia that is stored in the mine. This is cool but the company, not Strataca its a different company that leases space, could do better as that part was underwhelming. Thankfully, you end up not caring about that. So, first the basics. Very friendly staff, very knowledgeable tour guides, and a few of them are overflowing with jokes which makes the various tours lots of fun. They also take safety very seriously, and are good at not letting young ones just run wild which is great. Now the details. This place is big, very big. Exhibits are spread out very well and artifacts sit where they were originally left. Now, when I say this place is big, I mean it. They have a 5k and a 10k inside the mine among other events. I'm an event DJ and honestly wish I lived near here because I think it would be awesome to fill this place with music and I'm jealous of people that get to. Yes, they have had weddings in the mine... which is awesome. There are two tours with a standard ticket and a safari tour with a bit of an upcharge. The only slight issue that I have. Obviously not enough to dock a star, some of the information on the dark tour is repeated on the safari tour. I say it's not a big deal because while everyone will do the dark tour, not everyone will do the safari. That said, go on the Safari. So many great things to see and lots of information. As well as a great example of what "full mine dark" means... hint... its dark dark. Not kind of dark, or slightly dark. It's 0 light at all... which made me think it would be awesome if they hid people throughout the mine around Halloween to scare guests because... wow it would be effective and loads of fun.If you get cold easily, bring a sweater. If you tend to run hot you'll be comfortable. Overall, visiting Strataca was a great way to spend about four hours, maybe a bit more, and it's really awe inspiring not just to see the difficulties and what life was like for Miners back in the day, but also seeing the earth from the inside, and the awesome preserving ability of salt... except for metal of course. Plenty of opportunities to see what life was like back in the 50s for the men working in the mine.

We had a blast! This place was dynamite! Wish I could buy this place and make it mine. All the puns fully intended. The kids and family all had fun down here. Traveling the country and figured we'd go 650 down into the Earth. Pretty cool (yep, 68 degree pun). Actually our only complaint is the awesome tour guide on our Dark Tour ride didn't make enough mine puns. She set so many up and then didn't knock them down. Hit many, missed many more. This place is pretty neat, but not for the claustrophobic! The ride down takes about 90 seconds and you're in a elevator completely dark with 10 people. It's definitely kid-friendly and highly recommended!
