If you like history, it is a great museum, army artifacts starting from the early 1800's. Have to go back. The wait time varies according to the present threats of today. Bring proper ID or passport and allow time for clearance. This is the second oldest working educational army facility and the oldest national establishment in Kansas, built in 1827. My great grandfather was a military scout and accompanied wagon trains as protection for settlers to Santa Fe on the Santa Fe trail in 1859. I saw the rig and supply wagon.

Fort Leavenworth Kansas is the oldest continuing operated US Army Fort east of the Mississippi River, it was established in 1827. The Frontier Museum contains over 7,000 artifacts and a very interesting "Beyond Lewis and Clark Exhibit". Custer was once stationed here. We were cheerfully greeted upon our arrival to visit the museum. Watched a 15 minute film before walking through this gigantic laid out museum with incredible displays and dioramas. They also have a audio tour at select points. Very historical and covers the Frontier Army from 1804 to 1917 and Fort Leavenworth to the present. The soldiers of the US 10th Cavalry were based here and were the first to be called "Buffalo Soldiers". The gift shop was nice as well.

I am from NC and came to visit my brother and nephew. I looked up places to sight see while in town, and this museum seemed like a good place to go. I even called to make sure they were opened. At no point during the recording did it say they were closed. Please find a way to let people know that you are not open. Everything I saw online, the recorded audio said you were open and would close at 4 pm. Showed up at 1 pm, and there were no lights, no notes, nada, just closed!

An interesting historical museum that covers some of America's military history from the 1800s to early 1900s. It covers the Indian wars, and some of the other wars that led to today's modern America.Lots of good exhibits and detailed explanations. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Thank you.

Interesting peice of history. Definitely an older museum setup but does provide a lot of interesting history I was unaware of. In particular the section on Lewis and Clark was very good.

Front entrance personnel didn't let us in, we had valid id's , he looked at them with disgust, and rhen proceeded to tell us museum was closed, I can tell the guy was lying.. we were turned away and I called rhe museum and rhey were open. They need to train personnel on how to treat all people equally, we are veterans too!!!

An excellent and "must see" stop while at Ft Leavenworth or if you're in the area. There is so much to see and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. There are displays from many eras. There are new displays rotated into the viewing area created by the staff. Bring a camera but leave your flash in the vehicle. Obviously some of the items are delicate, aged and affected by bright light. I spent several hours there and need another day to see things I missed.

Definitely a must go place in Fort Lavenworth. Lots to see and learn from its history of origin. There is a 15 minute long video biography, you should watch before your tour. They also have a gift shop there. Take your family and kids there. Very informative and every display has a digital audiobook, all you gotta do is scan the QR code.

This museum offers a 2 hour place to study American military history from the perspective of Fort Leavenworth. The museum features a lot of static military displays. Exhibits are modern and well crafted.

With such a large collection, was surprisingly detailed with information. Normally, when you put so many items in that small of a place, too much is not explained and/or explained enough to understand. But curators did a wonderful job of making sure that the experience was great.
