If you are traveling through SE Kansas or along old Route 66, this will be one of your best highlights. If you're local, you may not know what a treasure you have in your own backyard. Excellent display of items that show the history of the Baxter Springs area. Plan on burning some time here as the collection is extensive and well displayed. Compliments to the center for the breadth history displayed.

Amazing!!!! It is such an incredible collection of history! Thank you for the welcome! Everyone was so kind and made us feel at home. We learned so much about local history, military history, lifestyle history, and so much more! This should be on everyone's list to see. Thank you for all that you do!

What an great museum. It is so far above what I'd expect from this size of a town. The staff was extremely helpful. We were given a map; which was needed to make sure we saw everything. It covers the history of Baxter Springs from the mid-1800s (founding) up to the present. There are a wide range of exhibits and various rooms throughout with both a lot of memorabilia and artifacts, yet also signs explaining what things are. There are 2 full floors; and a few small things outside. We saw everything; it took 2.5 hours. Great tour through the last 160 years of middle America.

Very detailed information about The Baxter Springs Massacre,The Neutral Land that it was in,Info about how it became a cow town and thriving bustling town. On the lower level it has models of rooms of old 1920's farmhouses,an old barbershop,a general store,And the most interesting thing downstairs in the museum is they got a lot of info of how the mining business became a big industry in SE Kansas,SW Missouri NW Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas. There a lot of lead and zinc mines in this area.Outside of the museum on the museum grounds is a former brewery that used to be there. The man that owned it didn't have the brewery there that long and he eventually moved to Joplin,Missouri,United States.Worth a visit.I plan on coming back because I didn't get to see everything in town.

Great little Park museum area to visit right off of route 66. The first thing to cut my eye was the tank and train I love to take pictures of tanks oh that trains too. Then I saw a picture of them little bridge going across the creek they actually moved that bridge to this spot they have feeding on the bridge to complete read a book or or these days look at your phone. From there you look up to the right behind the museum and there is a cabin had to take some pictures of the cabin with birdie and I. Didn't go into the museum but I'm sure it was just as nice as the outside was also I saw an old cooking pot behind the building didn't get a picture of that.

Unfortunately i did get a chance to see the museum as I arrived late. There is allot of history in Baxter Springs and I was able to take some photos from outside the museum. I will have to return as I'm interested in seeing the museum now.

One would normally expect a heritage museum of this size and quality in a much larger town or city! Absolutely top-notch! The museum director very kindly helped me find some information on family who lived Baxter Springs over a 100 years ago!

Using Harvest Hosts, spent a quiet, peaceful overnight in motorhome. Extremely clean property. Was unable to go inside the next morning due to driving schedule, but plan to stop in at a later date.

This was a surprisingly good stop! The collection was well organized, well curated, and recognized multiple cultures and perspectives. I did not expect to find such a little gem in this relatively small town. Worth the trip. Plan to spend more than an hour to get the most from it.
