A few years ago I found a really old map at my grandparents house. It was from 1908 and it was/is in rough shape. My parents put in a frame to preserve it but that frame was not great and I felt that the map was falling apart even more in the frame. I decided to find a framing company to get it behind some glass that would keep it safe for the future generations of my family. The gentleman at Kavanaugh Art Gallery pulled out all the stops for us and made sure we were taken care of. They had the materials and the expertise to frame it such a way that it will stay safe for a very very long time. I’m so thankful for them to preserve one of my family’s most treasured heirlooms. Beyond 5 stars. Thank you so much.

The owner is very knowledgeable; and most importantly he’s willing to share history about artists and pieces without coming off rude or condescending. The Dr Suess section alone is worth stopping in for and there’s endless walls of art and sculptures more to look at!

Kavanaugh Art Gallery is one of my favorite places in Des Moines. Dan Kavanaugh is very knowledgeable and super kind--he always tries to get me to buy a painting! But mainly I go there to get artwork framed by the amazing Lewis. He's very talented and always knows how to help me choose the best frame and mat. He's really great.

A hidden gem in historic Valley Junction! Immediately upon walking into this gallery, your eyes soak in a vast and impressive variety of paintings, sculptures, and other beautiful & interesting items! One could literally spend hours here browsing through Kavanaugh's seemingly endless collection! The owner and staff is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and helpful - Highly recommend!

I had always heard of it and finally stopped in. This place has so much amazing art, I had no idea what I was getting into when I walked through the door. The location at the historic First National Bank is beautiful. It would be even more impressive if the art and the historic features of the building were highlighted in a more intentional way, but I’m sure that will come. Thank you!
