Historic Valley Junction is a delightful mix of old and new in West Des Moines. The gathering place offers unique shops, cute little shops, and fun restaurants that bring a walkable hometown feel. Great atmosphere and vibrant events create a vibrant feel. Every Thursday the Farmers’ Market brings free live music, delicious food, and friendly vendors; drinks are also available on site. People can grab a gyro from Los Primos, find hand made candles, or discover costume ship donkey ears for a Nativity experience. The tradition has become a great place to chill, listen to talented artists, and people watch, with good parking early.
I visited Vallely Junction for the Henry Gregor Felsen car show that was hosted by the ISRA. I was very impressed with all of the shops that were open; it definitely kept that old time vibe alive.

Great atmosphere, but you pay for it in the shops. I went to two shops that sold hand made candles. Very few options under $30.
