I have went to this gym since the start of my school years, it’s been around 4 years. I can say, I’ve had a good experience until recently. I have cancelled my member ship and moved to genesis on Hickman (100% recommend) The final straw for me other than the staring problem here, is a guy who either works here or is in a manager position (he has glasses, redhead, short hair, dresses like a librarian, and could be knocked over by a small gust of wind). Mr power trip picks so many issues with so many people, Incredibly unreasonable weak/scared individual. He abuses his power, thinks he is a tough guy, and has even TRESPASSED a young man for simply cussing in the parking lot while having a conversation with friends. I no longer come here because I have zero respect for b.s like that. Talk about taking your job too seriously

I signed my daughter up for some very expensive private lessons. We weren't informed that there were no private lessons on 2 of the days. After 5 phone calls and multiple emails, we were told that she had forgotten to put that information in the email. There was no attempt to reimburse or give additional time during another lesson. The whole experience was very unprofessional.

So your telling me that kids can take graduation photos in the gym infront of EVERYONE but I can't take a simple photo of my pump in the cardio room??? with NO ONE IN THERE BY THE WAY. absolutely ridiculous. I am ashamed to say that I have a membership at the Waukee family ymca.

They offer day care and they don't have staff, if you have children don't go, it only works for a few hours and there is no space for children

I have nothing good to say about the Y in general. They don't disclose key information . I was never informed of the newer daycare hours. I assumed hours were as they were. I went in to work out and the daycare was closed. They then said " well these are the hours. " OK, that would have been nice to know this before I signed up and set up automatic payments.I was present with my 3 childrenWhile purchasing a new membership. This information should have been communicated. Also was told , per website and front desk woman on the phone that I could not cancel over the pgone. Only in person. Then proceeded to tell me I could always cancel via email. This too was news to me. I was not refunded the over 200 dollars I paid even though I explained in detail twice what took place. These people don't care about YOU. $$$

Great mid-sized church in Waukee! The focus is on building personal relationships to last with an emphasis on loving and living as Jesus does. Good coffee bar. Sunday morning kids programs and nursery available.

I ended my membership immediately when a staff member approached me and told me I needed to put on a shirt because my midriff was showing. She claimed it made someone else uncomfortable and a bare midriff was against the dress code. I thought it was a joke. Like, literally, you could see my belly button and that's it. Looking around, I saw men without any shirts on at all and people in the swimming pool practically naked. I asked to see the dress code. No one could produce a dress code that said showing your bully button or midriff would result in you being told to 'cover up' and humiliated. I cancelled my membership on the spot. Someone from the Y did reach out to me afterwards... not to apologize but to defend their right to pick and choose what is 'acceptable' attire and what is not. Unreal. Women in EVERY GYM will show midriff from time to time. And so what??? If men can show nipples or wear no shirt at all, what is the problem? Misogyny at its finest. Btw, people who were around me when I was approached and told to cover up were absolutely in shock... I had on sweatpants and a workout tank top with my belly button showing and was more covered up than they were. They didn't get it, either.

This YMCA location is not encouraging or supporting the safe health practice of wearing a mask during this cold and flu season.

The staff is so kind and helpful and so are the other people working out. We started here for the pool and it is rare that we have to wait more than 10 minutes for a lane. Connecting withnother swimmers has allowed us to learn and push ourselves in our workouts. The gym is always busy, but everyone is helpful and considerate. We have had staff say hi to us every time we are there and always offer to help if we need anything. I frequently come with kids (6 & 8) and they are never treated like they shouldn't be there. In fact, the staff asks them what their goals are and offers to help them too. They cheer when the kids are clearly putting in effort to learn new skills. A great family gym. We love our family time at the Y. The new app makes it very easy to see what is being offered and when things will be available. I'm sure the January rush will make things a little crazy for a while, but there are so many things to do here that we have back up plans for any time we are visiting.

I worked there, It's fun plus a fulfilling career, but the upper management of all did not learn or even take in what the Y is all about, and what it represents. If a person(s) this happened to another person besides me that I found out the situation from employees that were told on this individuals situation. If u send out emails or talks with the upper management about a problem, they want to solve it but 1st they will tell everyone that works there (the staff that I worked with the guest check in persons) about what was talked about in a personal message. Very unprofessional and again, it goes against what they are about very upsetting that they had this demeanor.will it mostly all but a few of the check in greeters are not friendly, and have a attitude. I was appalled and thrown off on how in the heck they even work In public or around people, including the upper management.

These 2 stars are for the rude front desk staff and the treadmills. I understand they are underpaid , but at least smile and be kind! I have never been to a gym where I have encountered such rude front desk staff. My fob hardly ever works and they just stand there and stare at me as I’m holding up the line to get it to work. Never am I greeted. I go there almost every day and when forced to put my name in the computer because my fob won’t work, they still don’t know my name and are rude about asking. When I joined I was never offered a tour nor was a friend of mine. I asked about the new app and how to figure out scheduling family swim times and instead of answering me she rudely suggested I put my fob in the app. The pool is impossible to get into for family swim time. The treadmills almost all have buttons missing for incline or speed. Hardly any advertisements were done for new weight equipment. The good qualities of this place are the amazing, kind childwatch ladies. They make going better as they are the friendly faces people like to see. I also like the free programs they offer for kids and when you can swim the water is usually bath warm.

Nearly impossible to use the weight room. Swarming with foul mouthed teenagers that won't allow you to work in on equipment. Once my membership is over I will be going elsewhere.
