For the first time in our life, we felt the need to hire a lawyer to deal with the situation we found ourself in with Hawkeye Towers. We had to get get our daughter out of an unsafe situation after 5 months of fruitless attempts to deal with Hawkeye maintenance and management. We experienced the same lack of basic cleanliness (mold, broken dryer vents, broken dishwasher, glass and trash on the grounds) as other recent reviews, so we won't elaborate much more on that but spend a moment on the safety issue. From before my daughter moved in the electronic lock did not function, leaving many situations where my daughter and/or her belongings were left unsecured, in what seems to be an increasingly uncontrolled environment. Multiple maintenance requests were made, and remade when they were checked off as "resolved" with no action taken. In person visits and calls made no progress. An email was received from Hawkeye maintenance to stop the maintenance requests for supposedly resolved issues, that were indeed, again not even addressed. This denial continued even after front desk staff were on video being unable to actuate the lock with my daughter's key, or their master key. Dryer vents that were a fire hazard due to squirrels making a nest in them (no screens to keep rodents out) were also not addressed, even after a similar process of requests and escalation. Even contacting the owners made for no action. Reviewing the lease, these are all clear breaches of the contract from the landlord's side, so we have decided to vacate and left notice of our intent to pursue legal action, should enforcement of the lease be pursued. We could not bear the risk any longer, and our daughter is now in a far safer (and friendlier) environment, and for less money. It is sad that it has come to this, and not an action we have ever felt compelled to pursue, until now.As a side note, be aware that Hawkeye is offering prizes for "5 star reviews" to residents. Interpret 5 star reviews listed here with this in mind.

I’ve been left without heating for almost a month, the staff don’t do any repairs, none of the electrical appliances workEdit- 3 months of no heat, no working appliances and when I went to check on the property management office I was yelled at and told I shouldn't complain cause I'm just making it harder for myself, my roommate was scolded to for the same and she hasn't even been moved to a different unit. The disrespect was enough for me.

My family and I came to get a tour of the Hawkeye Towers Apartments in March of 2023 because I planned on going to Hawkeye Community College and needed a place to live. Management seemed to be very nice when they gave us the tour and the model apartment they had was very nice and made me very excited to move in. It seemed to be very well kept at the time.I decided that I wanted to live at the towers due to its convenience with being so close to the school and lower living costs but boy did I make a mistake!I moved in the 1st of August 2023. And from the moment I stepped foot in that leasing office to get the keys to my apartment so I could move in it was hell. First off there was trash everywhere. Then they told me a numerous amount of times that they would email us information about roommates and which apartment I would be in at least 2 weeks before move in date which never happened no matter the numerous amounts of times I emailed them and called them about it. Then when I got there they told me they had no units available and that I would need to wait another 3 days to move in (side note I live 3 hours away and literally just got done packing up everything I own into two vehicles and driving 3hrs) after they literally told us multiple times that I was all good to move in on the 1st. So as you can imagine my parents and I were not too happy about this and my dad basically told them that no this is not going to happen and asked for the manager. Then the manager came and talked to us and the lady at the front desk and she basically said that she has been in contact with us for a while and the she has a unit ready for me and she apologized for the confusion. So then we were given a key and an apartment and we went to go move my stuff in but as soon as we opened the door we were devastated. I was assigned to move into a unit full of black mold, flys, trash, maggots, no oven door, and so much more. I was so discouraged and stressed at this point that a just broke down and cried. At this point my dad had had enough. He basically went to the front desk and said look my daughter is not moving into an apartment full of black mold and who knows what else. So either assign her a different apartment or give me my money back and we will find somewhere else for her to live and I will report you to the state for a health code violation. So then we asked for the manager again and come to find out she had given us the wrong keys. So then we were given another set of keys and a different apartment that was in much better condition. After living here for 4 months I can tell you nothing has changed, it’s still been hell. I get randomly charged an extra like $50-$80 on my $500 monthly rent for “appliance set-up” mind you I was charged this after already living here for 3 months and we didn’t have any appliances “set-up”. And whenever I go to the leasing office to ask them about it they literally have no idea why that charge was added on and all they tell you is you have to pay it or you will be evicted. The management here is absolutely terrible! I was without WiFi for almost 3 weeks and had to go to the school to do homework. And on the lease and the resident portal it says that it’s optional for renters insurances but when you actually get here they tell you it’s required to move in. And it’s an extra $12 on your rent each month. They also will send your packages back if you don’t pick them up within 24hrs of them being delivered which is stupid because what if you want to go home for a few days or something. I have also had packages stolen a couple times because when the packages are delivered to the leasing office the just put them in a big pile and when you go to pick up a package you just dig through that pile and find yours and take it. They don’t lock them up or anything. And don’t even get me started on the parties and fights. There is at least one cop here once a week because people call in the parties, fights, noise complaints. Etc.To this day there is trash everywhere as well as broken glass.

Our son moved into his apartment in August..no bedroom doors. Now December..still no doors. They have lied to us over and over again about when this will be fixed. They charged us rent when we didn't owe any. They have been harassing us daily about signing a lease for next year four months into this one. They are horrible landlords. Don't move here.

I was really interested in living here due to how close it is to the campus but after a quick visit to the property, I was not impressed. Just doing a quick drive around all the buildings, I was not impressed by how under-kept and maintained their grounds were. Trash was all over the parking lots, not to mention bags of trash just sitting outside of the dumpsters. Random appliances were just sitting on the balcony and walkways. After this, I was no longer interested in touring and living at this property.

Good place to live, but they need to improve their management.

Since resigning my lease another year, we were without heat for the entire week when it was the hottest it had been all year. I have awful allergies to dogs and the management moved someone in with a dog, even after going to tell them I had allergies. They said “we will work something out,” and did nothing. This place has been on a steady decline.

Emily and Eric are so good at their jobs! Eric fixed my dishwasher and garbage disposal. Emily made sure I was secure for the next school year!

They notified me a payment of mine was not successful 6 MINUTES before the late fee would be enacted. Mind you, I had paid two days before it was even due. When I brought this to their attention they said there was nothing they could do and I’d still be charged the 100 dollars extra on-top of my original rent.Location is convenient for Hawkeye students, but staff make it impossible to live here.

Horrible so far communication regarding move in and roommates was a mess up to couple days before move in. Apartment was dirty had not been cleaned. I have put in work orders to get stuff fixed and they have just disappeared of portal and never was fixed. Charged random 66 dollar charge with no warning.

Our Granddaughter moved into Hawkeye Towers 5 days ago. There are no drip pans under any of the burners, toilet has been clogged since she moved in tried to plunge it. Smoke detector in living room has wires hanging out and the one in her bedroom has just wires where smoke detector should be, kitchen fawcett pulls out and is leaking under sink, vents and other fixtures are full of cobwebs and dust. This is just what I observed in the half hour we were visiting her. With all that said....There are 294 units and 1 maintenance person! Wow! With that in mind just imagine trying to keep up with all that needs to be fixed and maintained. There is no way one person can keep up with all of that! I can't imagine most of these units passing a state inspection.

We just moved our daughter in today, and I would never recommend these apartments! Still a bed in her room and we had to take out and furniture!! Apartments are absolutely disgusting!! Holes in doors, cobwebs everywhere, bathrooms completely disgusting! Washer filled with so much grimm noone would ever wash their clothes in that! Dryer rusty and no no dryer vent! We had to shampoo the carpets, the blinds on their patio doors had like 3 blinds left on it so no privacy at all! You are pretty much cleaning up after the last person that lived there! Don't let your kids move here!
