I had a very good experience taking my dog for the first time here to get her monthly injection for hip dysplasia. They handled Missy very gently and compassionate. I would recommend them to anyone.

I had not had a regular vet in many years, my cat had gotten ill and his health declined quickly and we had to make a difficult decision. I contacted them with questions, was able to make an appointment for euthanasia and was able to get in that afternoon. The office staff, assistants and the Dr are very compassionate, the facility is wonderful, the Comfort Room is very peaceful and calming, Thank you for the wonderful care given to me and our Rocky.

When choosing a vet, you often think about who will give your new puppy their vaccines and see them for routine visits, neutering/spaying, etc. Very seldom do you ask yourself who will be the best provider during your pet's last breath.
Den Herder has been my grandparents' veterinarian clinic for 4 dogs, and they've seen providers from Dr. Den Herder himself, to Lori, Tom, or 3+ others. ALL have been compassionate, thorough, and extremely helpful throughout the entirety of the dogs' lives.
That being said, all 4 dogs unfortunately had to be put down due to old age, cancer, etc., and it was often abrupt and something completely unexpected. Each time, Den Herder has been more than patient, understanding, and full of compassion to our family. At the old clinic there was no designated area to say goodbyes to your fur baby like the new clinic has (which is an amazing addition! Nobody has to see you break down in the lobby), but the experience was just as "positive". During the last 2 times we put a dog down, one being this month, the vet has stayed 45-50+ minutes after close while we said goodbye (we didn't even realize it at the time, but we truly thank you for never rushing us and apologize for making you stay!)
Furthermore, they have taken countless calls and questions and never make you feel stupid for asking or reaching out.
Den Herder may have a reputation for being more costly, but it is worth every penny you pay. For example - another vet clinic in Waterloo/CF was my aunt's vet and on the night we called them with the news of the German shepherd passing during the night, we had to drive her body up to the clinic and met a man, who was seemingly annoyed with us, who abruptly snatched her body out of the back of our van on a blanket, literally clunked her onto a cart, and walked away saying we would get the bill in the mail. We were shocked. So again, Den Herder is worth every single penny.
Thank you Den Herder for taking care of Patch, Lacie, Molly, and Lulu! Our beagles thank you. ?? My grandparents have closed the chapter in their lives of being dog owners but would choose you again in a heartbeat.

TOOK A BRAND NEW PUPPY HERE BECAUSE IT HAD A BREATHING ISSUE. THEY SAID PUPPY WAS FINE. BROUGHT BACK 1 WEEK LATER FOR SAME ISSUE THIS TIME THEY SAID TRY ANTIBIOTIC. MY PUPPY DIED 2 WEEKS LATER. THEY CHARGED ME OVER $1000 FOR THOSE 3 VISITS. FFW 2 months. Get a kitten. Has worms. 2 different treatments and 5 weeks of this kitten living in the garage. He still has worms, and they are mad and insulted. My wife called her ignorant because she didn't want to pay the $300 bill because the kitten STILL HAS WORMS!!! Find a place that actually cares about animals. They gave to pay for their fancy new building somehow.

This vet clinic killed our dog! Do not take your animals here! Our dog had two different types of cancer for years (which we didn't know) and we were told it was fatty tissue, we continued to ask what was wrong and were told not to worry about it. When we took her to an ER vet clinic we were told she had a list of conditions that we didn't even know she had; heart murmur, mitral valve disease, anemia, and and that Den Herder was over medicating her, which made her bleed to death as well. When I asked to talk to the doctor the receptionist was a snot. We paid thousands of dollars, including medications, before going to the ER, thousands of dollars at the ER and then we were charged 400 dollars for her ashes!! Our dog was only 7 and the love of our life. No stars.
Todd,
Thanks for the response, however, I did just that. I contacted Dr. Garrett two days after we got home from Blue Pearl and left a message for him to call me and he never did. I called him again today and all he did was read Frankie's chart to me. Believe me, I have read the chart. She wasn't just a dog to us, she was my husband's emotional support dog since being back from Iraq. You all had us spend thousands of dollars on unnecessary medications and visits to your clinic and then the Blue Pearl ER Clinc, money we didn't necessarily have to spend in one week. When we got there it was obvious to them and us our dog was dying. How do you go from you all saying one day shes good to two days later she's dying?!? I hope nobody else has to go through the pain and suffering we have had to. Our two other dogs are heartbroken and won't eat at times without Frankie here, they have lost their alpha. The house doesn't know how to run. My husband is without his best friend and my 5 children are all heartbroken. You missed so many conditions, were over medicating, which aided in Frankie's death within a week after we noticed something wasn't right. I think it's time to brush up on some veterinarian care. All Dr. Garrett wanted to say was he didn't agree with the new findings from Blue Pearl. Very unprofessional and sad, sad, sad. Frankie was 7 and the love of our lives. Dr. Garrett said, "dogs die".
Todd,
Still heartbroken about our Frankie girl being taken from us. We wanted you to know we have had several people contact us with the same concerns:over medicating their dogs, not having their animals at your best interest, guessing at diagnosis, racking up huge bills, etc...We also have a daughter who's friends have been techs for you that have shared some shady business that goes on behind the scenes so they left. I think it's time you give some of us our money back! Dogs don't just DIE!

I highly recommend Den Herder Veterinary Hospital. My last appointment was for a yearly exam for my 31-year-old Umbrella cockatoo. Dr. Lori Cherne goes above and beyond during the examination and is absolutely able to handle a parrot. If you are in need of an avian vet, look no further.

Dr. Lori Cherney was AMAZING with my 9 year old leopard gecko Edgar! She knew how to handle him and what treatment was needed. She was extremely caring and attentive to my baby even asking for me to give updates as he recovers! I will definitely be returning if need be ?

I had an emergency and tried other vets in the area. They evidently couldn't be bothered . Den herder was the only one to show compassion for the critically harmed animal and saw him ASAP . They helped me to end his suffering when others wouldn't even return my calls .

I absolutely fell in love with this vet office. They have more technology, knowledge, and caring than anywhere I've ever been. I had to take my sweet mini dachshund for testing there (my former vet office didn't have the equipment) and I ended up having to put her down. They were so amazing and comforting and really go the extra mile for you. I now take all my animals there. Worth every dime for the peace of mind they give me. The people are amazing. Highly recommend.
