The woman who did our tour was very knowledgeable and gave us a look in to who was most likely to have done it. It was a cool experience ?

This is our second time and we love it. The charm of the house being restored to how it was in 1912 is lovely. The history and mystery is what we love. It's nice that the barn has been added to with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. I'm sure we'll be back again in a few years. My only suggestion would be to let future guests know where in information notebook is. We didn't find it until we were leaving. Also, the downstairs heat was not working so it got a bit chilly, down to 42 that night. Thanks very much!

Very active house. A friend took two pictures of the same family picture. One picture showed, two men behind Mrs. Moore. The other photo, showed no anomalies. Two women, had gotten scratches on their lower backs.
I am glad that the Docent took Amy Allen's advice. I wanted to see the house although, I got more than expected. Loved seeing the gray kitty, who probably, could tell us stories on what is going on inside the house, when no one is on the property.

I was super stoked to finally visit the Villisca Axe Murderer House, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Meeting the caretakers, one of them being Johnny, hearing the story firsthand about the tragic events and what he’s experienced there was such an honor. It brought a whole new level of understanding to the history of the house. The atmosphere was both eerie and fascinating, leaving me wanting more. I’m already planning to come back and hopefully stay the night to really dive into the spooky vibes. If you’re a fan of haunted history, this place is definitely worth visiting again!

Absolutely mind blowing, I have never experienced so much energy in one place before.
The tour was spot on and I loved the authentic experience!
This is definitely a must see, in person!

I highly recommend THE Villisca axe murder house. The energy is extremely intense, especially at the bottom of the stairs and the attic.
The tour guides are amazing!
Thank you guys so much, you're highly appreciated. ?❣️

We went and explored the house with our two kids. The story itself is just insane. My oldest spent a long time in the attic by himself and said that he felt very strange after coming back downstairs to the parlor. My youngest was very calm which is very much not like him. We would 100% go back. Very eery. The hosts of the house were super nice and very willing to share their own stories of the house.

Wow I don’t even know where to begin! It was an unbelievable experience! It was exciting and sad all at the same time. My first experience was upstairs in the children’s closet. I had my ghost radar and it just started going crazy. So I started talking to them asking them if they enjoyed their toys. As I picked up the red ball, my radar started going wild again. So I tried to set the ball on the ground to have them play with me. As I did this, I had chills going up and down my body. I had only ever felt this one time in my life, and it was at one of my old houses when I was a child. After a while, a group of people came into the room we all kind of sat around and set the ball in the middle of the room with our radar surrounding it. We were able to watch the ball move back-and-forth just a little bit. We also turned on the app GhostTube. The ghost told us his name, Joseph. At that time, none of us knew who Joseph was until we figured it out, the father. The app said cellar and also shovel three times. None of us had any idea what it was talking about. We were all just making guesses. So after a while, we all walked downstairs to go to the cellar. And to our surprise, there were three shovels down there. I believe this family is stuck there and unable to pass. If you get the chance to go, I definitely recommended.

We really enjoyed our visit to Villisca to see the house. The tour guide was very pleasant and informative, and we were lucky to get the house to ourselves for a little while. One of the touch-activated toys in the children's room seemed to go off by itself while we were there. It was a very cool experience, I'd highly recommend it if you're interested in the paranormal!

We visited on 10/16/24, it's quite the drive from Cedar Rapids but well worth it. Beautiful drive down to Southwest Iowa. Villisca is really pretty at this time of year. Our tour guide was very friendly and informative. She was wonderful at taking and answering questions. We were made to feel welcomed and this was a memorable experience! I'll visit again and would like to do an overnight stay! The fella in the gift shop was very welcoming and informative too. Thank you kindly for everything you two!

We had a great time at the Villisca Axe Murder House! Not only was it beautiful, the weather was lovely and we were greeted by a wonderful cat. We didn’t get too much evidence but we did have a great conversation with the spirits that reside there using twistable flashlights. I highly recommend the visit and hope you get to learn much more about the event that occurred in that home.

My second trip to Villisca. The house was pretty quiet this trip. Got a few things but still always worth the trip. A bit disappointed that with the new ownership, you have no contact with anyone except by phone. That being said, they were friendly and accommodating. We wanted to purchase some souvenirs but weren’t able since everything was closed up. I know you can buy online but that’s not what I wanted to do. The overnight stay is such a surreal experience. Def recommend going, but hope they become more interactive with visitors.

The experience of was fine and if the tour focused more on just the history of the house, then I would have improved the score.
Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of ‘ghost’ stories and my interest waned as tales of dark dolls and scratched guests unfolded.
It’s terrible what happened to the family and the ghost portions felt like a disservice to their memory.
Guide was great though and she was a welcome part of the tour.

The positives: the person who gave the tour, Jamie, was very personable and knowledgeable about the house and its history, and was able to paint a pretty full picture of what the town of Villisca was like at the time and why things may have turned out the way they did in regard to the murders and how the investigation was handled.
After the initial tour, we were given free reign of the house and could go anywhere in or around the property. We renter the "ghost detection" equipment and had some fhb pointing it at various objects around the house and watching it go off.
The negatives: extremely short experience. We drove over 2 hours to visit the Villisca Ax Murder House, and the experience overall lasted roughly 45 minutes.
Since the property was purchased by the US Ghost Adventures team, you can tell it's been commercialized with merchandise perhaps glamorized with an attic filled with creepy dolls and notes, which may leave a bad taste in your mouth, though I do believe the tour guide tried to do right by the victims in telling their story and being respectful of the tragedy.
Overall, if you find yourself in the area or already heading towards Villisca for whatever reason, then I'd recommend stopping by and checking out the infamous Ax Murder House. But it's not what I would call a "must see" destination.

Our tour guide, Kelly, was very knowledgeable. Answered questions of not only the house but the surrounding area. Gave us a little local history as well.
I believe her name is Kelly, my memory isn't the best
