“Johnson Ave Hy-Vee was my first job when I was just 14 years old. I have moved a few times but every time I find myself close to Hy-Vee Store #1, I get the urge to stop and pick up a few things. What can I say - It feels like home in there! The store is always clean and usually well stocked but on occasion, the staff can leave something to be desired. It's happened on more than one occasion that I have needed help and no one could be found that could assist me. The customer service area is also almost always a cluster and I never have a clue about where I'm supposed to stand in the random line of people. Now, if you haven't been to the Market Grill at this location, you should definitely check it out! Good ol' Hy-Vee deli style food and some additional tasty dishes, served to you cafe style - comfy booth and all. I enjoy the prices and the quiet atmosphere as I eat my meat loaf with mashed potatoes. All in all, Hy-Vee Johnson Ave is a good store. Just don't expect that 15 year old to help you find your green beans.”

“Shelves are always stocked. Friendly and helpful employees. The cheese selection is best in the area. Also lots of sliced deli meat at great prices. Dairy section is always fully stocked with lots of options. The produce selection is better then walmart and always fresh. Self checkout lanes are several and checkout is fast.”

“Friendly staff. Quick checkout. Had quality size pumpkins for my last minute needs. Bought a bag of Iowa raised Roasted Dill Pickle Crickets to try for the 1st time. They actually tasted pretty good. I dont eat anything even close to that so I'd say it's worth trying them or something else that gives you a No Way feeling. I'm going to take my suggestion and try more foods I haven't tried or didnt like the 1st time and see if my tastes have changed any.”

“Been going since i was a young kid to get fresh vegables. Remember going in getting dilled green beans from the women that owned the place. Loving getting my green tomatoes here know. Fried green tomatoes. It's such a nice place, would be great for a garden party with tea and fancy summer drinks, Sandwiches made from the fresh vegables grown there. I heard it use to be like that.”

“It may just be me and my experience, but this Fareway seems to always have fresher produce than the North Liberty location. I also like it because I don't have a negative experience when I ask for steaks (sizes that are not in the meat counter already cut) of a special size to be cut for me. I go out of my way to visit this location as I live in North Liberty. Thanks Fareway!”

An added plus is the occasional acoustic guitar player, sometimes w a singer. It's a nice surprise to walk into a convenience store and hear live music for a few minutes..”

“Wow! I went in with the wife and decided to get breakfast while she got a few things. I got the Hy-5. $8. Thought average price. Sat down in their Market Grill space and waited. Nice 80s background music. I thought it was getting just a little long for the wait. Then the food came and I understood. Any other place and this would have been a lot more money. Two full plates of eggs hashbrowns sausages bacon and pancake. Pancake. The pancake was huge a full plate diameter! Fluffy tasty. Land-O-Lakes butter. I had the choice of two meats. I chose the bacon and sausage. While the sausage was good that bacon was amazing! Next time I'm going to double up on the bacon. Everything done right. Hashbrowns and bacon crispy not overcooked or limp. I had to get a to go and I can pack away a bit of food. I may have to do this more often and not wait till retirement for regular Hyvee breakfasts :)”

They have Black State and plenty of others that rival NorCal, SoCal, Chicago, Oregon and other. You're paying for it, (up to $8 a can), but you only live once.”
