we live in Shenandoah. we use them as our normal vet for our dog and they’ve always been good at being informative and professional. except for the experience i had last night with Dr. Roberts.
i took my dog to see them in August because he had a horrible cough and constantly gagging. we were thinking he ate a toy and were worried something was lodged in his throat he kept trying to cough up. when we got there they told us it was just kennel cough and nothing to worry about. they gave us meds and told us the directions and he was okay. on Monday 9/30/24 my dog started showing signs of kennel cough again. i called our vet and questioned if he had his vaccination for kennel cough, why he is continuing to get it? the vet reassured me again it was nothing to worry about. having his vaccine does not guarantee him to not get it. she gave me the example of “it’s basically like the flu shot for humans. you can get the flu shot and still get the flu.” she asked if i had any medication left over from the last time, and i did. so she advised me to give him the medication just like last time.
3 days later, 10/3/24, i came home from work and my dog did not come and greet me which was not normal. he was lying on the floor on his side struggling to breathe. he was wheezing. i picked him up and he could not even stand. he was constantly drooling from both sides of his mouth. he was limp. he could not keep his eyes open. his head was shaking, like bobbing almost. he was vomiting, but there was no cough. something was extremely wrong. i called the vet and when it continued to ring i looked at the time and noticed it was after hours. not sure if someone would answer it gave me the option to press 1 for an emergency. doing so, Monty Roberts answered and asked what was going on. i told him everything. he said, “well if he had kennel cough before that’s probably what it is again. nothing you are saying is concerning me enough to consider this an emergency. you can bring him in tomorrow, we are pretty booked but we’ll see what we can do.” he had no concern at all.
an hour later i called Urgent Care in Papillion. i told them the same story i told Dr Roberts. i didn’t even finish giving all the symptoms before the lady at UC cut me off and said she is very concerned. none of what i am saying sounds good. it sounds like symptoms of pneumonia and she recommends i bring him in right away. we made the drive to Papillion and they saw us right away. our dog had to be hospitalized (he still is not home) and we were told he has Pneumonia along with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. if we would not have brought him in, he would not have made it through the night.
upset at Dr. Roberts for brushing us off so quickly, i called asking to speak to the manager/boss. they told me the boss was not in and someone would get back to me next week, which was fine. but instead, Dr. Roberts called me back and asked why i needed to speak to his boss regarding him. i told i was upset because our dog could have died. in our gut we knew something was wrong and he was so quick to just get us off the phone telling us every symptom we have given him is normal in a dog that is simply sick. he said “i guess i was wrong. it was serious. it’s a good thing you took him over there we couldn’t have done anything for you here anyways. we don’t have the equipment.” i said, “but instead of referring us to somewhere that does have the equipment you say my dog will be fine it’s just kennel cough?” he said, “maam i’m not sure what you want me to say.” i said, “maybe apologize? because of you not doing your job my dog could’ve died! you had absolutely no interest on the phone when i was telling you his symptoms. no urgency. no care.” Dr Roberts, “ok well sorry i did not consider it an emergency.” i asked him why it was him who called me when i asked for the boss and he told me “the boss won’t tell you anything different than me. and believe it or not you’re not our #1 priority.”
Monty Roberts is extremely unprofessional. we will no

They explain everything you need to care for your pets, have very decent pricing. And are thoughtful and always try to get you an appointment when you need to have your pet looked at.

If I could give zero stars I would. My experience here was awful and will not be back. The young gal that “cleaned” my dogs ear was so aggressive and unnecessary rough. I will not be back and would not recommend. Also are very pricey.

Dr Tiarks was wonderful with my little dog, ended up sending him to Omaha for emergency abdominal surgery for a ruptured stomach ulcer. I think he saved his life, and all the staff were very caring and sweet to us. I will be changing to this provider for all our pets care.
