The visitor's center was lovely, spacious, and clean. The woman at the counter, Heather, was so warm, helpful, and kind. She happily gave me a packet of information, drew me a map, and chatted with me about all the local stops in the area. If you ever need some information or want to learn more about the area, I encourage you to stop on in.

It was confusing to get there and once there it was closed. I suppose that's my mistake though seeing as I could've checked it out online. It was a spurr of the moment trip. It's in tiny town of Pigsah. I've been in small towns before, but this was even smaller. Almost no open businesses, the only building that seemed like it could be a school had windows broken out and boarded up. Appeared not to be in working order. One pump gas station was straight out of a horror movie. There was full ball field, but how are there enough kids, or any at all with no school? Counted an astounding five people total. Not very welcoming.

The single best experience we’ve had at any state park visitor center ever. It’s surprisingly large, they have displays with info and stuffed animals, the bathrooms are clean. The lady, whose name I think was Heather, was super nice, very helpful, honestly went above and beyond. Gave us a large packet full of maps, explained each one in detail, and answered all our questions. We wound up buying a beautiful calendar and a sticker before we left.We go to state parks in the Midwest frequently; Loess Hills is nice for hiking and looked pretty in early fall with the leaves just about to turn. If you’re visiting Iowa and are looking for easy hikes on trails that aren’t busy, I fully recommend. You can also camp in the forest for only 9 bucks a night.

Great visitor center! Lots of good information about the Loess Hills. Every kind of map and pamphlet you could possibly want. Interesting interactive exhibits. I got a very cute sticker here. The volunteer working was so friendly and helpful, we’re very glad we stopped by.

I'm extremely bias about this place. Although I live in Eastern Iowa this place is a good 5 hours away from me. But well worth the drive. Beautiful trails nearby. The staff here are Iowa-friendly. Proud attentive and courteous staff. I was here a few months ago and was able to download a pdf of local trails. Detailed file and many points of interest. Even if you only have a day to explore this part of Iowa Please stop ! The Loess Hills(pronounced Luss) is an interesting landscape to explore. Well worth it. In my opinion.

Beautiful drive with rolling hills, picturesque farmlands and dense prairie forests. Loess Hills National Forest Visitor Center in Pisgah, Iowa. We didn't backpack or camp, just out for Sunday drive. Round trip from Council Bluffs through Pisgah, Onawa and back to Council Bluffs about 140 miles.

Joined the group for the 2020 First Day Hike and was super glad to have come up! The hike started at 1pm, for folks that did go celebrate the new year the night before. The hike was on a good trail and the day was super nice! After, they invited us back for snacks at the visitors center. It wasn’t just snacks, it was lunch! Definitely made a donation. Heather and Jeff did a great job.
