I would like to express that my prior experiences at both this location and the Albia branch have generally been positive. However, my most recent encounter was not as satisfactory. Despite arriving 15 minutes early for my scheduled appointment, I was not attended to until 30 minutes later (a total of 45 minutes just in the waiting room), as it appeared that the staff on duty that Saturday were more focused on socializing than attending to individuals waiting in the lobby. Allow me to outline the primary concerns I encountered during this recent visit. I want to emphasize my willingness to spare no expense for the well-being of my pet. The incident that particularly unsettled me was the vet tech's disapproval of my choice to administer Frontline to my dog instead of their recommended product. I attempted to convey that the Albia vet, belonging to the same company, had endorsed Frontline due to a previous adverse reaction to their flea and tick medication, Bravecto, which had necessitated emergency care in Ames. The vet tech insisted that Frontline lacked FDA approval, urging me to use their product priced at $267. Intriguingly, the rebate form they provided indicated the availability of Frontline Gold and Frontline Shield in their inventory. Of course they don't want you buying this elsewhere because they are making a killing by selling theirs to you, that haven't even been on the market long enough to have a full list of side effects. Another concern arose during the blood work procedure. While I am accustomed to blood draws from my dog's leg, the vet tech insisted on drawing blood from underneath her neck, a practice I was unfamiliar with and hesitant about due to my dog's size and propensity to squirm. She's 4lbs and fragile. When I expressed my reservations and requested assistance from someone else, I was met with skepticism about my fear of dog bites. My concern, however, stemmed from the potential harm to my dog from the proposed restraint method. Subsequently, I discovered that my dog had suffered a dislocated leg joint as a result of the handling at the veterinary clinic, necessitating a visit to the small animal hospital in Ames for X-rays and corrective measures to put her leg back into place. They weren't open Sunday for me to bring her back to ask how this happened, and I wouldn't have anyways. In a seemingly minor incident, the clinic proceeded to trim my dog's nails without seeking my permission, adding the service to the bill. While this might appear insignificant, it adds to my overall perception of the clinic's practices. Despite the limited options for pet care in the Oskaloosa area, I am compelled to seek alternative options that prioritize my pet's well-being, even if it requires traveling considerable distances. My primary concern remains my dog's health, and regrettably, I find it challenging to trust the level of care provided by this establishment. Megan was the provider. Doesn't sounds like they have a great track record.

We had BRETT RATLIFF as Vet, and BROOKE as vet tech!!! Well if I could give negative stars for the quality, compassion, care, mannerisms, and information received from this place I definitely would. I would just like to start by saying that if you take your kitten or cat into this vet clinic, and they test positive for FIV, definitely get a second opinion! We took our 10 week old kitten in for a first check up, and he "tested positive " for FIV, then the mannerisms and compassion along with bedside manner from the vet Technician, was nonexistent, after finding out the results of the FIV test, the first thing out of the vets mouth was basically to have him euthanized, then both the vet and tech decided to inform us that our kitten and other cat could not groom each other, eat after one another, use the same liter box, and that they could live together but separate, no other information, or suggestions, no other further steps, no explanation on getting retested in 6 months, as I was leaving paying the bill, the vet last minute brought out a paper front and back that had all information on it about FIV, what it was, how it's contracted, dos, and do nots, upon further research and reading, everything the vet and tech said was IGNORANT!!! They can groom each other, they can eat after one another, they can use the same liter box!!! And they can only contract it by sexual contact/fighting(hard bitting) or!!!!! Could get passed from mother because of her antibodies but he could actually not have it, and most normal educated vets suggest a retest in 6 months, to in fact be sure that he really is positive!!! No suggestions, no further information, just basically we suggest him being euthanized so there's a guarantee of him not suffering... fyi you went to college and got a degree, maybe you should go back and re-educate yourself on something you specialize in and something that people trust your opinion and medical expertise on, I mean, you're trusted by these people who come in and expect you to know and give proper care, information, compassion, care, and treatment to peoples fur babies, and yet you're not compassionate, you rough handle animals, what information you do give is false, and you're rude! We wonder how many peoples animals you've suggested euthanizing and they trusted your opinion, care, and education, and actually went through with it. Also, you did no exam in front of us, what so ever, didn't listen to his heart or lungs, didn't check his gums, didn't see if he had any stomach tenderness, nothing... your vet tech aggressively man handled our 3 lb kitten, cleaned his ears very roughly, and didn't talk to him or had any proper mannerisms towards him, to us it felt as if it was just another animal you were just doing a job... way to go!!! You and your staff should learn proper and professional Etiquette along with some care and compassion and beside manners when you specialize in taking care of animals, peoples fur babies, our furry children... also to add how in the H*LL do you charge for a fecal sample when you haven't even actually done the test?!?! So no I do not recommend this vet clinic, I do not recommend the vet, I do not recommend the vet tech!!! Please educate yourself and stop suggesting people euthanize their kittens when you clearly have no freaking idea what you're even talking about!!!! Maybe you need to read the paper you gave us as we were walking out and get to know what FIV actually is before opening your mouth, or try to talk to people about what it is and further steps!! And our other cat came back totally different after being neutered, I feel like they mistreated him, and they also seemed and acted annoyed that he was a type of way after surgery but I mean what do you expect when you can't explain what's going on what happened and your nuts just got cut off?!?!? your place of business sucks!!!

If your pet isn't real sick when you take it here i sure will be when you leave. We took our small female dog here to be groomed and of course they have to give them thier annual shots before they will do anything. Megan the so called vet gave our little girl to many shots and meds for her small body in one day. When they give this many shots they are supposed to divide them up over few days. Megan gave all of them in one day and our little girl got very sick. She even gave her the Lyme desease vaccine that she didn't need and if you ever looked up the Lyme desease shot it is worse than actually getting the Lyme desease. Our little girl got very very sick so we took her to the Ottumwa Animal Health Center thinking she would get better treatment and get her well again but that was another big mistake because Brette the other so called vet said our little girl was diabetic and needed to be put on IV fluids because of what Megan did. Our little girl was there for 3 days on IV fluids (not sure they did this but we paid for it) Brette called us and said she was doing better and that we would have to come and get her friday afternoon because she was not going to come in over the weekend to check on her. When we picked our little girl up she couldn't stand or walk...it was terrible. We took our little girl home and she kept getting worse so we called a emergency vet and we drove for over an hour to get her help. By the time we got to the emergency vet it was to late and we had to put our little girl down. They took her blood sugar test when we got there and it was perfect so she was not diabetic like Brette said she was. Thanks to Brette and Megan they have made us very sad. We will nevr forgive them for what they done to our little girl. Beware of all the Animal Health Car centers because all they want is the money.....no compassion at all

While the care for my cats seemed up to par (my cats were just spayed today so it’s soon to tell), their customer service is terrible. I called the day before my cats surgery to see if they would fix one of my cats because she was in heat and then I confirmed prices of each service I would be receiving. They failed to mention that if my cat was in heat there would be additional charges. When I brought this to their attention they said I was lying because they never gave me an

With the new management the quality of service has went downhill. All these people see are dollar signs when they see people in need of help with their pets. They don't use their judgement but rather what they can charge to treat your pet. They do not listen to the owners but rather want to dictate over you what they will and won't do based on the cost. Save yourself the time and heartache and find a vet that actually cares about your pet and not just the amount of money they can charge you.

They always get me in and out right away. They sent a card of condolence when we had to put a dog to sleep. I thought that was really nice.

This place is awesome. My dog needed surgery for bladder stones. Kelli and the crew done amazing with Jasper. They treated him so well knowing how much he meant to me. This place is the best. I do all my vet services at the Animal Health Center and would recommend their services to everybody. They are amazing.
