This is a beautiful hotel and in such a perfect location. The rooms and furniture in them is beautiful but the place needs attention to detail and a little love. The old wood is so beautiful but a bit of treatment could bring it back to life. The porch was one of the reasons we booked this hotel but you could not really sit there and enjoy the views as they are full of spiderwebs and very dirty. I tried to talk to someone at the hotel but there was no one there at the desk the 5 times I tried. We had a very nice stay and the hotel's history and beauty is amazing.

Original building was done in 1830th. But it was burnt and rebuild on original base. Now it belongs to 75 local investors who take good care. Motel and outdoors sitting area has amazing river view.

What a lovely place! I stayed in the new addition, with a great view of the Des Moines river. It was just across the street from my room. It was relaxing to watch it's stately flow toward the Mississippi. ?Room was clean, seemed brand new; and the mattress and pillows were comfy and clean. There was a pod-style coffeemaker, an efficient fridge/freezer and a microwave. Had spotty internet, so most of the morning I was not connected. Minor inconvenience, and part of life in small-town So. Iowa. The only negative was no food, breakfast or marketplace. Since I arrived after 8pm, there was only an ice cream shop open. I managed, but it would have been helpful if they offered something...anything. Bottled water and granola bars, even.Still, I would stay there again, and recommend it to anyone. Just BYOF!?

Very unique lodging experience. This place is like stepping back in time. We had the pleasure of staying in one of the river view rooms our first night and a smaller queen room the second night there. Both very comfy beds and modern bathrooms with heated floors. Be sure to grab a drink down at the bar, then sit on the porch surrounding the upper story of the hotel! Many walkable places to eat or grab a drink or check out the state park nearby. Very cool place..definitely would recommend for a weekend getaway!

Could not get the key to check in even though the room was paid for . Didn't know what went on and wasn't informed about anything except that they were too busy to get me a key. Came to find out that they had special coffee and was available till 10 at night. I don't know, all I really got was a shower and TV air-

Hotel Manning in Keosauqua is a very cool historic hotel. Would recommend getting there in the early evening, that way you can see the sun set over the river. The hotel is gorgeous at night. Van Buren County is a wonderful place to visit in the summer. Most shops are closed on Sunday, so would visit the area on a Friday/Saturday.

We had not planned to stay here but after looking at the property we made a reservation for a week later when we would pass through again. We stayed in the building called River View because we liked the views of the river from the balcony. The rooms in this building have flat screen TVs, microwave and refrigerators. The friendly lady at the front desk let us check out the rooms in the historic hotel. The doors are left open in the empty rooms so you can see how each one was decorated. All the rooms and lobby were in very good condition after recent renovations.I like how 89 locals got together to save this place. We plan to return, maybe in October.
