I first shopped at Johnston ACE Hardware during the short time (3 years) I lived in Johnston. I was very impressed and grateful for their knowledge, willingness to make suggestions, and steer me in the "right direction". I am not very experienced with "hardware"-related matters. I moved into Des Moines, but I still return to the Johnston store when I need assistance with hardware-related issues. Thank you!

I bought a new lawn mower and on day of delivery, I had to cancel and return item. I was told the delivery fee would not be returned and used as a “restocking” fee even though the product NEVER left the store. Needless to say, I’ll be shopping else were!

The older man that works the cash register thinks it’s okay to call women with short hair “Sir”. Then when he knows he made the mistake, doesn’t apologize. He just grins. It wasn’t clear to me if he thought he was funny, or if he was just ignorant. Either way, it was hurtful and rude. I would be willing to bet that he doesn’t call men with long hair “ma’am”! They clearly do not teach customer service or how to actually be helpful in this store. Also, the prices are unnecessarily high. Will not go back.
