I brought my vehicle in for an overheating issue (1st ever) and an oil change. My vehicle never had any issues before - running great, nothing smoked/smelled, didn't hear any problems. It was running fine once the engine cooled down. I was later told that there were so many problems & needed a new engine (quoted $5,000+) or a new vehicle. I went somewhere else for a 2nd opinion, and they did an oil change and replaced the water tank (said nothing else was wrong). It cost 80% less that what I was originally quoted, and my car is running great now. I really don't appreciate being taken advantage of and will never go back.

I have been going to this shop for nearly 15 years. I appreciate their integrity, pricing, and results. In the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area there is no better place than Russ' Northside for work on a vehicle.

Twice now Russ’s has helped me when other mechanics have damaged my car or completed services incorrectly. The staff is always friendly, and the pricing is transparent and fair. I’ll never go anywhere else!

Highly recommend. The tire I wanted wasn’t in stock, so they gave me a more expensive one for the price of the ones I originally asked for. Took time to explain the differences between tires, and work quick. Support local!

I've been going there for a long time and he's treated me really nice that whole time he would let you know how much it cost and if he couldn't fix it he would find somebody that would fix it that for reasonable price so he is a good place to go

They charged me $110 for an oil change in 2020, well before the oil prices went up. I had asked the front desk guy why it was so much, as no oil change should be more than 70-80 dollars pre rise in oil prices. He claimed it was normal, which I disagree with because even after oil prices have risen today, it’s still not $110 at any other shop. He did the same to my roommate. Can’t trust a shop like that!Service: Oil change

Russ's is a neighborhood garage in the old and best sense. It's not associated with any dealership or big usiness. They service a variety of makes and models for many problems. They've always been fair to me. If you have an urgent problem, they will work with your schedule. And since they are right in downtown Iowa City, if you work there, you can drop your car off in the am and easily pick it up at the end of the day.

Absolutely THE BEST! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car, or my money. I don't know jack about cars- John had to show me how to open the hood on my '97 Nissan Sentra- but since I know how to drive my car to Russ' Northside, I don't need to know anything else. They know it all, & they are more honest than a summer day is long, so they will give you a fair, equitable, honest answer as to what is wrong with your car, & also tell you if it's worth fixing, because they just know everything. That's their business- they know everything. If you have a car problem, go to them- they will give the straight facts & the honest truth with no malarkey, & then they'll give you a very fair price. Honest mechanics are worth their weight in gold, & Russ' is invaluable, which is why I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years.
