Do everything you can to support literally any other local store in town.
I have empathy for the owner as she is clearly unhappy with her life. The issue is please don't take it out on others.
In her own store, she is happy to kick literally anyone and everyone out.
Around town she is rude as well. I saw her hit a handicap man with her shopping cart and not stop to see if he was OK.
I used to love this place but it started going downhill about 15 years ago and is basically unbearable to be in now.

I was a bit apprehensive about going here because of the reviews but I am throughly surprised. The person working today was nice, polite, and helpful. The store was clean and everything was categorized with labels and very reasonable prices. Will go again.

I had been avoiding this place for almost 15 year after a bad experience when the owner accused me and some disabled adults I was managing of "loitering" after looking at books for 5 mins. No joke, 5 whole minutes.
Most recently I was forced to go there because I friend told me of a specific piece that that a family member of mine had been looking for for years. Unfortunately for me, made the deadly sin of asking to take a picture of the piece of furniture, not actually taking the picture, asking the staff if it would be ok to take a picture. Queue unmitigated boomer melt down about Amazon reseller and whole host of other things. My reply, very calmly trying to deescalate, "I just want to make sure this is the correct piece, sending a quick pick will do that. If I can't confirm I don't want to be spending this kinda of money" Her reply was to kick me out of the store or threaten to call the cops.
Lastly, writing this review a full year after this event because my friend is afraid her account will get closed if. Apparently the owner has been known to close consignment accounts on people that leave bad reviews and she if afraid this verdictive person will make the connection and close her account.
Hopefully I can avoid this place for another 15 years.

Horrible place to do business with. I honestly tried to keep an open mind and was met with nastiness, apathy, and downright rudeness. This was before I even started browsing.

I cannot understand how this business remains open. The lady who we interacted with is a horrid creature. My roommate called me to see if I would like to purchase a lamp he found in the store. The lady told my roommate he couldn’t be on his phone, which was strange but the way she said it was very rude. He was talking at a normal volume but the lady at the shop told him that if she “could hear the phone call, it was time to take it outside”. Once I had arrived to see the lamp, I overheard her tell a man who seemingly was selling items at the store that she would charge him $10 to look up his account number because “an employee would have to stop what they were doing” but that should be part of the job. On the way out the owner called me smelly, and told me I’d have wash myself and my clothes before I could return. I had just taken a shower that morning. I genuinely smell nice. My body wash and deodorant are a lavender scented common brand, it’s in no means overbearing but a soft clean smell. Out of shock I responded “me?” And she told me that soap and water were cheap. I’m at a loss for words. I hope this woman can overcome her demons and be decent to people. The whole interaction was uncannily awful. Why own this business if you seem to hate it?

I am the spouse of Kim. I was just thrown out of this shop. The new store is difficult to navigate for an old lady with vertigo. I told my spouse sotto voce: Never again. The owner yelled at us and told us to leave. It is my first such request in my 71 years. I apologized to her and she screamed her landlord was dead and I said I would honor her request and leave and she hissed: "Good!" It is hard not to experience this as an aggressive action on the part of the owner. Deeply strange and very sad, too.

Went there this morning with 2 boxes. Never got in the door. I had vintage Pyrex with lids. Was 7 minutes before opening. Sitting in the parking lot and owner came out and never even looked at anything. Told us basically to take it to goodwill. Without looking at anything. I would not consign there or shop there. Rude and seriously another consignment store in town was thrilled to have my stuff. All vintage. Would not recommend.

Rude if you leave a bad review they cancel your account and keep your money

Rude staff, broken items cleverly concealed to appear functional, absurd return policy for 'store credit' (only redeemable on day of return). Worst second hand store in IC - visit Goodwill, Salvation Army, Crowded Closet, Stuff Etc, Second Act instead.

I am so bummed. I’ve shopped at Houseworks for the last 15 years. My tween likes thrifting so we went to stop by. No kids allowed under age 16. Can they ban whole groups of people like that based on one identifiable feature? I’m a mom, I guess Houseworks also doesn’t want moms supporting their business.
