Called several times and left messages on the answering machine never got a call back very frustrating when in need of pet care and very unprofessional.

We were looking to board our kitten Tulip for a week and we found this place. The online reviews were mixed but decided to try it.The staff were very friendly and told they would provide cat food and litter. But we decided to drop her food off, so that she is not stressed. They said they would send us an update every 2-3 days and they did send us pics of the kitten and how she was doing. They were very professional and the kitten was happy when we picked her up after a week. It’s an affordable boarding place for cats.I highly recommend this place.

They took my cat Jimi Hendrick in at the last minute. When I found out my Regular Vet/sitting place is closing. Jenn and her staff are great. Jimi did great and we could tell he was well taken care of. We will be using these guys in the future, Highly Recommend

Please, please, please I beg of you DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOGS OR ANY ANIMAL WITH THEM!!! My dogs were covered in feces and vomit when I picked them up. I had to throw their beds away they smelled so bad. If that wasn't bad enough I had to seek emergency veterinarian care for one of them the same day because it was so dehydrated and sick it could not stand or walk and subsequently had to be humanly euthanized! They did not contact my emergency contact and did not seek medical help for my suffering animal! Their response is the dog was doing fine and how are they to know if my dog was eating or drinking since two of them were in the room together!!!!! They are not capable of caring for animals!

Didn’t clean up after cat, accepted the money, and lied about it.

We have two 50 lb Australian shepherds that we love and treat like children. They have stayed with HAFH for several individual weekends. Before doing so, I visited the kennel and outdoor area and met a few of the staff. This isn't some Miami Beach pet spa, this is animal boarding in Iowa. We have found our boys to be well cared for, and the staff to be quite kind. HAFH is affordable, and I also like that this location is attached to a veterinary clinic, so should there be an issue, care is well within reach. I leave this review as I prepare to book them again for this weekend.

Hi, I boarded my German shepherd here for one night. He had the suite (bigger kennel.) Very nice sized kennel. They put a huge bed in his kennel. Overall good place and my dog enjoyed his stay.

My mom, brother and I used their boarding for our kitten during the time period where we were moving. They were super friendly when we dropped her off and picked her up but there were a few communication issues with updates. They have a form to fill out for if you wanted to receive daily updates of your pet(s) while they are with them. They did send the updates but to the wrong number. My mom called a couple of times to receive updates on our kitten and they said she was fine. They made notes to send updates to us but we never received them even when they asked for my mom's phone number again. When we got there to pick her up, the staff member who gave us back said she'd send us the pictures and everything but we still haven't received them and we picked her up August 1st...she was there for a week.I'm just glad that my girl is okay and we got everything figured out.

Pretty sure they never fed my dogs as their bin of food was just as full as when I dropped them off. I have a Daniff that eats 4 cups 3 times a day. There should have been food missing since they were there for 3 nights 4 days. And not to mention you could see his ribs horribly bad when I picked my baby up. My Rat Terrier was not acting herself when we left either, acting very skiddish which is not like her at all. Definitely will not be going back.

My partner and I boarded our cat at Home Away from Home for one night when we took a road trip to visit family this past weekend. She was content and purring in her carrier when we left, but she came back yowling and anxious as can be. When we picked her up the staff told us she hadn't eaten at all, though they did not call to let us know that before. She was also covered in litter with something crusty stuck onto her tail, and we had to give her a thorough bath to get it off. Now she has tapeworms, and we think she got them while boarded at Home Away from Home. She definitely did not have them before! Please DO NOT board your cat or any other animal here. They have horrible sanitary practices, do not communicate well, and do not create a safe and comfortable space for pets!

I have to politely disagree with the other reviewers on this place. I have had nothing but POSITIVE experiences with Home Away From Home. My dog is...hm. My dog is strong, independent, stout, loud, woman. haha. She can take a bit to warm up to strangers. Normally, if I have to go somewhere, I keep her with family. I recently moved to the area and no one was available to watch her when I had to leave on short notice. I took a chance with boarding a facility and I've used it ever since! The staff is pleasant, engaged, and seems to really take to my dog. They even have kept her in the front office with them while they work alone for kicks! They remembered her from our first stay, and always seem happy to have her back. In one instance, they had some extra suites so they gave her one since no one was using it (at not extra cost). They are always quick to respond and will try to make things comfortable for our pup but also are flexible on pick-up/drop-off in a pinch. I am sorry for others that have had poor experiences, but I am not one of them. My partner and I have used them now 3 or 4 times with great results and have decided to use them fully in the future.
