Living in what used to be Sycamore Mall, on the east side of town, The Hobby Corner is a great spot to find radio controlled items, games, models, puzzles, trains, tools, rockets, educational sets and all sorts of cool toys! It's got a wide variety of items. I popped in on a Saturday evening and perused the shop. There are so many unique items, all priced appropriately. I was impressed to overhear a regular customer pop in and chat with the staff. There is definitely a sense of community at this shop. My daughter saw a daffodil Lego set and was thrilled have it purchased for her. (You're welcome.) It's cool that they have board game night (Thursdays) and that you can come play a board game yourself anytime during the day. On the same note-- if you have an old board game you can sell it here. You can now sell your used games in our store. To do this simply follow these few steps. You set the price and once it is sold you get 80% of that price as store credit. The coolest thing about The Hobby Corner is that they will order anything for you if you can't find it in the store-- at NO additional cost!

Ordered Nuln Oil Gloss. Was sent standard Nuln oil. These are NOT the same thing. If you do not have something in stock- cancel the order. This is business 101.

Gosh! I can't believe Hobby Corner hasn't received a review in 2.5 years. Even though the store is located in the nearly defunct Sycamore Mall, this store is still a great place to go out of your way to visit. My husband and I had never been here, and with time to kill before our movie we thought "what the heck?" The Hobby Corner has a huge variety of items for sale. Hobby items like paints and supplies for those model airplanes, but also board games, puzzles, Legos, Giant MICROBES (I squealed when I saw these because I didn't know the company still existed) and many, many other fun things. Yes, they sell a lot for the D&D and Star Wars fans in your life, but you could easily come in here to grab a gift for your coworker or a unique board game for family game night. They have some funny, obscure titles that you may not find be able to find elsewhere locally. There's also space near the back of the store for game play. We collect Lego Minifigures, so we left with a couple of grab bags. Luckily we got some characters we didn't already have. Friendly customer service. 100% recommend. If/when the mall closes, I hope this business is able to relocate.

Stopped by The Hobby Corner while exploring the Sycamore Mall. Really happy to see that they had such a wide variety of games and hobbies to choose from. Was thoroughly impressed with the puzzle selection. They had puzzles for any theme you could want. The had RC, MTG, trains, D&D, board games, and everything in between. They even had a section for educational toys and magic tricks. Staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. They do also have game nights and there's a large section devoted with tables and such. With so much online content, it's great to see places like this exist. Worth a chance to stop by.

Great local game store, with community events in the evenings. I'm a regular at board game night, which happens on Thursday nights. It's free, and maybe 20-25 people show up to play a variety of board games, from simple and short to long and complex. It's a great place to go to meet other geeks and try new games! They also have things other than games, such as home brewing equipment, model building supplies, collectible card games (and corresponding game nights), and the occasional tournament.

Fanastic customer service and great prices! Ordered a couple of things through there online shop which was simple and convenient. I wish the online store and store location has the same name but it wasn't too hard to find. Helped by multiple people over the phone who made my transaction smooth and fast. Additionally, very fast shipping. I'd highly recommend supporting this business

As a homebrewer and sometimes board-game-player, I have to say I'm glad to have the Hobby Corner in town. Their selection of games is comprehensive, but I can't speak to any of their game nights since I haven't attended. Their burgeoning homebrew section is much appreciated as well, I'm optimistic that they will have a great selection of brewing equipment soon. If you are interested in brewing, you owe it to yourself to drop in here as the only real outlet in the IC area for homebrew equipment was Hy-Vee, and generally the folks working there aren't so knowledgeable about brewing.

This place has honestly gone through an impressive transformation in the last few months. I used to stop by as a last resort when I was desperate to find something and it was never a pleasant experience. The employee was always trying to push something on me that was not even close to what I was there for. I came to dread the experience and gave up on finding some things rather that go here to find them. Recently however, things could not be more different. The staff seems to actually know what I am looking for and have first hand experience with it. And any recommendations they make are actually on line with my interests and not the most expensive game in the shop. I usually end up in a not short conversation with someone there, customer or employee and without fail it has been a good time. Also...Thursday game nights. Be there, trust me.

The Hobby Corner is a classic hobby shop in the truest sense. Unlike Coralville's big box "hobby" and "craft" outlets, The Hobby Corner is the go-to store for slot cars, model trains, plastic models, radio controlled airplanes and cars, dungeons and dragons, strategy games, puzzles, model rockets, pinewood derby cars, science projects, and more. I can't say enough about how helpful and knowledgeable the Hobby Corner staff is, always willing to entertain me, even though I'm mainly just sight-seeing ... walking-off my meal after filling up at El Dorado down at the other end of the mall. Update: They are carrying "craft" supplies now ... Craft BEER supplies, that is! Fascinating hobby, home brewing.
