If you know what to expect, this Cafe is a total delight. Expect: 100% organic food, great gluten free pasta dishes, fresh veggies, fresh daal, fresh kitchari. Not spicy hot, but plenty of seasoning, great for vegetarians. No meat, ever. Menu changes daily. Lovely service.

Very friendly staff!! Prices are pretty high, but they provide discounts to students and staff. Unfortunately we visited in the closed period between lunch and dinner. Would love to try their food!

Bland but healthy food. Very bland. I mean REALLY bland. Steamed broccoli with no seasoning? Yep it's here. Daal with no flavor? Got that too. Organic and healthy which is fabulous, and it is nourishing... but remember to bring your own spices with you to this place. The whole concept of a market below and eatery upstairs is kinda cool... but it just doesn't fulfill.

This is a healthy little market for the students/followers of the Maharishi International University. It's sort of the student grocery store. It's small, but similar to a Whole Foods. It's got all this organic stuff, aisles and aisles of lentils, beans and rice. They've got all kinds of non-GMO cruelty free vegan options. The veggies looked like they have some serious movement. They really keep those things fresh. It seems that there's a disproportionate level of vegans in this part of the state of Iowa. The prices on things were quite high. It seems if you're having an emergency bean shortage, that this would be the place to go. The cafe is not ADA compliant. There's a huge set of stairs to get to the top of the building to get to the restaurant, which was out of the question. I asked if there was an elevator, and the waitress who was carrying a heavy tray full of stuff huffed with exasperation, "No, that'd make my life so much easier though!" Gah. My favorite thing about this market is all the free publications that they offer. Old magazines that outline the case for non-manufactured foods, non-GMO, non corporate food. The publications are all free!

Came here on a vacation from out of town. Was very excited to buy organic produce and try their cuisine, however when I arrived they refused to let me into the store because I did not have a badge stating I was a resident of the town or a guest staying at the $$$$ hotel in the town. I think it is very disappointing they don’t want to share the organic foods with visitors or people from the town who don’t have the money to participate in their expensive activities. I was not allowed in any building or restaurant in the town. This is a very classist group with some troubling ideas. Stay far away from here as you are not welcome unless you are a member of the cult. I feel bad for the residents of Fairfield who have to deal with these people.

I planned a vacation to Maharishi Vedic City MONTHS ago and was very excited to check this place out, as well as Sabi’s cafe. I was not allowed to enter the cafe because I did not have a BADGE??? stating I am from the town. Keep in mind I was wearing my mask and willing to comply with covid policies. For a town that claims to promote “world peace” and “inclusivity” I am not understanding why they do not allow guests to enter their shops. There will be no world piece if you only let people from your boujee community enter your shops. Glad to know I have to buy a 300k+ house or pay $500 a night to eat an organic apple. This town is for real a CULT! I have never heard of a town only allowing people from their community into their stores.

They have a nice variety of great organic vegetarian selections. They also note which items are gluten free and dairy free, which is really accommodating. The spices are general mild but satisfying.
