The doctors themselves are very nice, vet techs and receptionists can be sneaky... look at receipt vs. invoice. Charged 152.64 but invoice said 115.00. Was charged for food I never picked up, nor wanted. When I called for receipt, was emailed the same invoice which said I still owed 115.00 but bank account clearly shows 152.64. Also almost every time we have argue with what is recommended vs actual need... We love them too, my a**! We love your money is more like it!

This place has gone downhill in recent years! I had two dogs that went here, Remus who has gone here since he was 8 weeks old (and is now 13 years 9 months old), and Benny who passed away last year. I sent a request to get an appointment to have Remus euthanized, and left a voicemail message on 03/11/2021 because it was after hours. At 9:43am on 03/12/2021 I called them as they still hadn't called me back (granted they had only been in the office for over 2 hours); they stated they couldn't get my dog in to be euthanized until the week of 03/22/2021. So, I'm supposed to just have him suffer for a week and a half? So now I am taking him to an emergency vet to be put to sleep, because the vet he's gone to all his life can't help him when he (and I) needs them the most! I will never forget this, nor let them treat any of my dogs in the future! The reception was extremely uncaring/rude, in a troubling time for me (knowing my boy is hurting and needs to be put to sleep)! Update: I know this is a very emotional time for me, and I understand that schedules can be booked full. I want it known that Dr. Beyer is a great and caring veterinarian, as are all the veterinarians I have encountered at South Des Moines Veterinary Center. My assessment is based on the receptionist, and lack of their empathy I encountered today. Dr. Beyer cannot make-up for anything once you get to her (as her caring character is prone to do), if you encounter extremely poor customer service at the front desk on your worst day. No, I'm sorry, I'll find out what I can do. Not even I'm sorry Remus is having a hard time. In the past in emergency cases like this, the receptionist has always talked to the veterinarians in office that day, to see if any room can be made (as they did with my previous dog Benny, I had to have, put down in June 2020), but not even an attempt was made today. This time I was just presented with a very cold tone, lacking of any emotion, or any options. It wasn't until the receptionist stated they 3/22 would be the earliest they could do, then I stated I can't wait that long since Remus is suffering, that she even suggested I look at other clinics.

We are moving internationally and due to COVID, our travel arrangements happened suddenly with little notice. EVERYONE at South Des Moines Veterinary Center helped us with all the needed appointments and forms on short notice to ensure we can safely and legally bring our two cats with us!

The staff is all super friendly and incredibly helpful. And knowledgeable and professional. Coming to South Des Moines Vetrinary Center is like coming to an episode of Grey's Anatomy, but without all the sexual tension or dramatic plotlines. And it takes care of pets, not people. It's basically nothing like Gray's Anatomy. But they will take great care of your pets.
