Stopped here for lunch on a Friday. It is a popular lunch location! The line moved quick. Our order came out quickly as well. They have a great selection of salads, sandwiches and soups. I had the cilantro lime chicken salad and it was very tasty. The focaccia that came with it was also great. So garlicky, which I love. Plenty of seating and fun to explore the market before and after. Definitely recommend!

I'm town for the weekend for business. Checked yelp for a place to get a good salad. Stopped by gateway and was delighted by the healthy grocery / cafe combo.

I went in around 8:30 p.m. and three times I ran into workers they were moving so fast they didn't stop to see if somebody was around the corner I said excuse me to all of them one responded with okay. The other two didn't respond at all they were so busy trying to get out of there that they were not aware of an elderly woman. I thought the woman at the checkout was doing a good job as she went to see if they had the bread I was looking for but then as I checked out she seemed so impatient even though there was no one else at the counter. Usually it's much better than this so I'm guessing it's because I came in shortly before they closed although I was out of there at 10 till 9:00. I didn't appreciate it.

I just love Gateway market! I am so glad that I don’t live close by. Otherwise I would spend all of my money there. I love stopping whenever I have to be in the downtown area for chicken tortilla soup! The salad bar a hot case bar is so amazing. You have to pick up the focaccia bread which is brought in fresh daily. They have a $10 wine section with some amazing wine choices. My kids love stopping in there because they have an entire section of gummy candies and of course we are obsessed with the homemade monster cookies !!!There is no way that you would be disappointed if you stopped for lunch or groceries at Gateway market !

The spinach artichoke dip is probably one of the best I’ve had. And there is this sauce that is otherworldly on the onion rings! (I recommend the maple mustard and Cajun aioli) I love this place. Always quality food.

Jhalesh, in the flower department, went above and beyond my expectations to make a beautiful, summer bouquet for my sister’s birthday. Gateway’s flower selection is so unique and fresh. No carnations and babies breath here. I asked for summer, farmers market style bouquet and it was full of sunflowers and zinnias, amaranth, lilies and dahlias. I will definitely do all my flower deliveries from Gateway now.

The gateway burger is one of the metro's best. Order it a little under your preferred temp though.

Excellent food. We ordered the ramen, pad thai, reuben sandwich, and cranberry walnut salad, and everything was very good. Will definitely return.

Sorry for this sad picture, but I forgot to post the picture of my food when it came out, but it looked so good that I forgot.I would recommend getting the spicy pork belly ramen. Nice and smokey with good flavor. I also enjoyed browsing the store.

I come here and just buy their garlic focaccia, that stuff is so good and sometimes all I afford to eat in a day. Little pricey and everything seems to be so oily. Very friendly to a Mediterranean diet

What a find as we drove to Des Moines International Airport, as this combination of a grocery store and cafe is special and will be on our list nearly every time we are in The Capitol. Think Whole Foods or Sprouts with a terrific interior food option. Located a few minutes from downtown, the Farmers Market, and the airport, The Gateway Market nails it in every way. Clean, great customer service, excellent store layout, and product, the grocery story rocks. Wish we had stayed longer in DSM, as we would have stocked up, and will stop next time we land there as we head to Eastern Iowa. The Market Cafe is located within the store on the west end and has a terrific layout with booths and tables. Available eat-in or takeout, and you can order online--plenty of on-site parking. Tough call deciding on burgers, sandwiches, deli options, soups, salads, entrees, noodle dishes, or wraps, and I made what turned out to be a wise decision electing for a Grilled Chicken Club, which was delicious. Smoken bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions, and great BBQ sauce on a 9-grain bun, Perfectly cooked, a real treat!

Great specialty food store. I especially love the selection of cheese, beer, ethnic food (especially Thai/Vietnamese/Indian), and hot sauces. The sushi is better than most sushi restaurants! The cafe also has fantastic food!

This place does not have traditional aisles. It is a maze of confusion, joy, and organic goods. Navigating the parking lot is similar to a 1990’s bumper car ride. I’m 87% confident they repackage candy and sell it at a markup. People are nice which is good because store is also near a cemetery and likely haunted. They also sell cheese.

This place has a good cafe. They also have a hot bar and premade sandwiches and desserts. Plenty of options! A little expensive but well worth it.
