Tried to surrender a cat on behalf of my roommate that came from them and to be returned to them per contact. Horrible experience. I have video of actual surrender if doubting. 100% supporter of shelters...but not this one anymore, despite having gotten my last dog from them.

A great place to find a furry friend! The staff is so caring and helpful and ALI does really great work in helping animals, especially ones with special needs. Love this place and what they do!

We’ve adopted from other shelters in Iowa and Nebraska but Animal Lifeline of Iowa has been by far the best one yet!We adopted two kittens, who needed extra time to grow before coming home. The staff were amazing at letting us come frequently to play and snuggle. We made sure to spend some time with the big kitties too.Adoption process was swift and we went home with everything we would need for a few days! Wet food, dry food, medications for their spay surgery, detailed paperwork on their shots, fiv testing, deworming if needed, flea and tick treatment, very thorough! Even our vet was impressed with how detailed the records were!Colby made our adoption simple, smooth and a success with introducing to our elderly cat!Frankie (Now Chloe) and Samantha (now Nellie) say we love our new home!

This is an amazing Special Needs No-Kill Shelter in Des Moines. A non-profit that helps so many. Great place.

I found a newborn kitten in my yard and took it to the Animal Lifeline and they said they wouldn't take it because it was found in the Des Moines city limits. I was unable to find another place to take It and unfortunately the kitten did not survive. For a shelter that is in Des Moines and claims to take "orphaned babies" they had no problem turning away this baby kitten in need. If they can't take stray animals found in Des Moines then why are they in Des Moines?

Helps animals but is very dirty. Pet fur visibly in the air.Edit. I was at the main place looking at cat. It was particularly the cat room. This was about a month ago.

Staff was very caring with each cat they showed me as I searched out a pet to adopt. They answered all my questions about each animal. I was also on the phone at length with another volunteer on a separate day, and she was wonderful about answering my questions.

My two under 2 children and I went in without an appointment to look at kittens. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the adoption process. We are excited to be adding to our family and to do so from such a phenomenal foundation. It was a wonderfully positive experience for us.
