We've had Dr Shroyer as our vet for a very long time. He's kind caring and knowledgeable! Being a vet (and vet staff) has got to be such an emotionally taxing job. We are grateful for the love and dedication Decorah Vet puts into their work. Thank you!

I didn't post a review of this clinic for a while because I didn't want to do it while I was upset, but after time has passed I still think they failed my dog. I lost one of my German Shepherds after the Decorah Vet Clinic staff ignored my repeated concerns that I didn't think their initial diagnosis was correct (they told me he had a urinary tract infection). Over the course of 3 weeks, I called every few days and sent emails giving detailed info on his progressive symptoms (problems eating, breathing issues, etc). I asked to make another appt and they ignored me. I politely told them I was done waiting for them to take me seriously, and that I was driving him to the clinic that morning for them to look at him again. One of the vets (different than the one who made the original diagnosis) came out to the parking lot and proceeded to verbally reprimand me for asking them to recheck him. I responded in detail with all of the times I had contacted the clinic in the previous weeks and their lack of service. Again, I detailed my dogs symptoms. They finally agreed to look at him again, brought him back out to me 30 minutes later and told me I needed to take him to Iowa State as an emergency case within 24 hours. They told me they didn't want to "guess" what was wrong with him and gave me a bill for several hundred dollars for tests I never saw results of (on top of the bills I paid previously for the "urinary tractor infection"). After giving me no information on what they thought was wrong with him but scaring the heck out of me, I drove the 3 hours to Iowa State that afternoon. Within a couple hours Iowa State told me he had cancer and they could visually see the large abscess in his throat. They treated my dog with care and me with respect. My GSD passed away the next afternoon. The staff at Iowa State were absolutely wonderful through that very sudden and painful process. If I had not taken my dog to ISU that day he most likely would have suffocated to death at home, which would have been even more devastating. The Decorah Vet Clinic never reached out to see how my dog was or in any apologized for their lack of customer care or rudeness. I will never take my dogs there again. Dog owners should not be reprimanded for advocating for their dogs care. Our pets rely on us to do this. Hoping this review gives the DVC pause to reflect on how they can improve their communication processes and treat customers (people and animals) better. They could take a page out of ISU's book.

We really love this vet clinic. We’ve seen many of the vets here who are always so kind and helpful with any and all issues. We’re never afraid to deviate from our main vet when something needs to be addressed as soon as possible, as long as they work here. The vets are very knowledgeable and have helped out so much with various canine conditions on my fur babies. Full stars!
