The history here is neat.Nearby activities: So close to ames commandevata comma even a decent trip to des moines. Nice little john to see comma learn and experience history.Safety: Everything is ground level and the maun walking paths are concrete. There is an area on the north that is rocked walking paths and grass.Walkability: Main walking paths around the buildings are all concrete. If you visit the grassy area to the north, there is a rock walking pathFood & drinks: Well, you have to eat at the cafe while you are here!Noteworthy details: Historic gas station, cafe, old cabin camp that modified into a motel that now part is still hotel rental rooms and part are personal apartment rentals

Very cool, unique historical place on the Lincoln Highway. The rooms are the same the were in the 40's and 50's with new updates and amenities. The whole place is like a step back time. The Cafe and staff are outstanding. Rooms are extremely affordable. The only complaint I have is the beds are really small. I think they are double beds.

This is a refurbished classic roadside motel and restaurant at the junction of the Lincoln and Jefferson Highways (today's US Routes 30 and 65). There are five small rooms to rent. They aren't large by today's standards, but the double bed is very comfortable and the shower is hot. The weather when we were there didn't require heat or AC, so I can't comment on that. We walked around the grounds and checked out the historical markers and the gas station. It's almost like spending the night in a museum! To check in, go to Niland's Cafe next door and let the folks at the counter know. They'll get you the key. To check out, hand them the key and leave. And have a meal at the Cafe! It's got great classic diner food. Thanks to Kelsey and crew for making this a great stop on our cross-country drive!A lot of people have worked to restore this corner. I'm so happy to support them with my business.

We stayed in one of the five restored motel rooms in this historic motel built on the site of a 1920s traveler camp on the Lincoln Highway. Very clean and cozy. Had everything we needed - even a fan! Managers run the motel and restaurant- checked in and out at the little cafe next door. Had the Sunday brunch as well at the cafe- very good and hot. There are walking guideposts scattered about the grounds that give the history of the highway, the motel, the vintage gas station and the cafe. If you love Americana nostalgia and small town history don’t miss it. Very budget friendly as well.

The rooms date from the 1940s and, while they have been well maintained and updated, the size and general feel is mid-century. Some see that as a negative but I'm not one. At the intersection of two historic highways, the Jefferson and the Lincoln, the motel offers an opportunity to safely and comfortably experience a little bit of the good ol' days. The adjacent cafe is part of that experience.
