I'm giving the store a two-star solely on one of the ladies that works there. I'm unsure of her name but she is always a delight when we come in and tells us to have a good day and is good in conversation. However on January 22nd 2024, around noon, we had one of the more unpleasant experiences with a cashier with black hair. I don't know whether it's the fact that my girlfriend has tattoos or short hair but the cashier decided to say " just to let you know Jesus still loves you." out of the blue for no reason. Said cashier also tried to round up her purchase price without asking twice. I can deal with the overly loud Christian music playing in their store the entire time they're open, but please do not make assumptions about our religion or lifestyle and feel free to comment on it just because we're in a christian-based store. To make this not purely about religion, I will agree with some of the other reviews here saying that sometimes the prices are wildly high in comparison to many other thrift stores.

This is the worst most inept establishment I have ever been to. They have ridiculously high prices and unhelpful rude employees. When I asked to purchase an item that was priced and ready to go out on to the floor the employee said “No, I will put it out when I am ready. You can not buy this.” I asked to talk to a manager and they said that they would not sell me the item. What kind of business won’t sell items to customers??? They have lost my business and I will forever be telling my friends not to go there. Do better Salvation Army.

I was really disappointed in this store. Only visited once but wouldn't bother again:* Overall, the store doesn't have much inventory, isn't very clean (well, like most dusty, cluttered charity shops so that's not new) & the prices are outrageously high for used & in many cases, junk merchandise. An example from my visit was medium sized, wicker laundry baskets for $25. Some had old price tags attached, so might have been unused but were covered in dust, so appear to have been donated items from a place where they were left in storage for years.* 1/2 of the items looked like junk you'd find at a country, roadside junk table... old cups with broken handles, chipped, dusty or cheap knick-knacky stuff, old, dirty lamps & ancient electronics, etc. Honestly, it was mostly cellar junk.* The pro was if you're a man looking for an interview suit, they had plenty in decent quality. The rest of the clothing was meh.* That being said, I did find 2 silk throw pillows while there, both under $5, a similarly priced red sweater in great condition & a nicely tailored overcoat for $16, originally from Target.* I wouldn't bother again. Any nearby Goodwill has much better pricing, quantity & quality merchandise. I'll stick with Goodwill. Maybe stop in if nearby, but don't head out of your way. 2* out of 5.

Wow. UNBELIEVABLE lack of customer service. We purchased a $21 dollar dress and got down the road and realized it was ripped badly down a seam. We returned less than 15 minutes later and we denied a return for a trash item because "they had to purchase it from Target and give no returns for any reason."Everything is over priced trash, kids books $2.49 *each* Goodwills quality and value surpassed Salvation Army months ago and I look forward to them closing for good.

This used to be one of my favorite thrift stores in Des Moines, however, the prices have gotten outrageous. Honestly I can't understand how pricing is decided in this store. I have literally found dollar tree items listed for double the price.

Horrible bald guy who ran the store back in 2016(not sure if he still does) accused me of stealing from the register and told my parents he thought I was autistic. What a creep!! Horrible memories from that place.

I was shopping here and someone randomly walked to me and said "Sir, we will be closing in 30 minutes" I was like Okay thanks. Save your awkwardness by getting an intercom system. Overall, the person was not rude, just never had someone come up to me to tell me they were about to close. I come from retail and I totally get that the worst part of your day as a retail worker is having customers pay at the last minute and you want to go home but everyone is happy when you can get some type of intercom system. ;)

I will always donate to goodwill as the drive up and drop off donation process is much easier.

Items are that of a typical thrift store or worse, prices are those of a carefully curated boutique.

Short older gent with the tats suspected me of stealing when I walked in the store with item and looked directly at him said hello and had my item in my hand. He was also upset because I was searching through a taped up bag of dino toys I was trying to figure out what they were, and there was a hole in the bag already. I also noticed he followed me, but I initially didn’t think much of it. Pretty ridiculous. It’s not my job to tell you there is a hole in the excessive tape job. Waste of tape if you have a gaping hole in the bag. Put a sign on the bundle if you do not want people trying to figure out what they want before they buy something. I’ve bought many items from here so I feel like it was just the employee. Should look into security cameras if you are worried about theft. Sincerely

Kind of pricey for a "thrift" store. We observed many items that you can buy for the same or less new. And the "half off" colors are only half off on the items of the cashiers choice.

I shop a lot of thrift stores, even when I am just passing through.. I find that this particular Salvation army is over priced in most of their items. The t-shitrs for example range from $1.99 to $4.99. These are used tshirts. They all should be $1.99. I don't understand what differentiates the lower priced one from the more expensive one.
